Beware Ford chassis motorhome owners!

The catalytic converter theft problem is here to stay it seems and the Ford powered RV’s are one of the most frequently hit vehicles.

Thanks for making this video on the Ford powered motorhomes specifically. I hope owners of these machines get wind of this before they're introduced by being victims. I live in Phoenix and the converter was cut off from my E450 Triton V10 powered motorhome over the Christmas holidays. Mine is parked in the drive at home. I saw your earlier video which included an E-350 powered bus. Several local independent shops I called here are dealing with multiple motorhomes and trucks being towed in for same issue - cats being stolen from vehicles while in storage yards. Locating an OEM cat for a 2006 appeared impossible from Ford dealers across the country, even with it being a $3000 part. Basically told it was out of production due to age and little demand (but that's changing, obviously). I was surprised to see the new one in your video - good job getting it. I found several internet aftermarket offerings that indicate they "fit" the E-450. "Fitting" (a 3" diameter exhaust pipe) and "working" while climbing an incline are two different things cautioned my Porsche mechanic. I called a few manufacturers after seeing their cats being advertised as "fitting" E-450 by various online marketers. Two definitely said "NO" that their cats were not rated for the 14,050 lb gross weight of the E-450 Super Duty Cutaway chassis that forms the basis of my motorhome. Over the two weeks time that I was investigating, the "# in stock" from the suppliers that had the rated for 14,050 lbs cats diminished greatly. They were being gobbled up. And the deterrent devises also were on back-order status. I did get an aftermarket one with which I expect to pass emissions in April after I bolt it up. But until I can protect it, I won't be leaving it on to be stolen again like several unfortunate others have been subjected to. We won't be using the motorhome for some time for various reasons. I hope to see more on your theft deterrents for these motorhomes as you develop them. It's not a stretch to visit your shop for install later in the year as I'm in route to visit my brother in San Rafael. The cat can be cut off while parked in the campground and I'm out on a hike so it needs protection! Thanks again for the videos and I was able to at least warn my San Rafael Prius owning brother.

Sadly this is no joke! We have a 2020 Winne Vista on a Ford V10 Chassis... I went over to the storage place to start it up as I usually do and they had cut the thing clean out! Going to move locations and appreciate the advice on how to protect it going forward.

Hey Colby, thanks for yet another well-done and informative video. Two questions: (1) Are you seeing just the Triton V10 platform being targeted, or is the Ford V8 also of concern? and (2) I see a Kia Optima next to all those Accords; is the Optima/Sonata also on the top-5 or top-10 "hit list," and if so, is any particular engine of greater concern? Thanks!!

Good questions, yes anything with the Triton V10 is a target. The 5.4 in anything above a 1/2 ton (3/4 ton and 1 ton and heavier duty) is also a target. Yes the Kia and Hyundai products seem to be the up and coming victims. I have a video on them.

You need to post a video on pick up trucks. My Catalytic Converters were stolen off my Chevy 1998 k2500 7.4L 454 V8 Silverado. It's a very costly repair.

Does comprehensive insurance cover install of theft deterrent items, too?

They do not. It is frustrating but insurance companies don’t pay for things you don’t already own. Think of it this way, if a burglar breaks in your home and steals your jewelry your homeowners will replace the jewelry (if you have it listed on your policy) but they won’t buy you a safe to put it in.

Contact us for information on an electronic system that we're manufacturing for installation on F150 trucks. Why? Because they are in the top couple of the most targeted vehicles. Our system is designed to work with the truck's factory alarm system to prevent thieves from even reaching the truck's converters, much less having time to remove them. The system plugs in and does not require any factory harness modifications. Our page has a link to our website. Although we're manufacturing systems for F150 trucks at the moment, the fact is that the effort required to modify our system to fit a motorhome would be minimal. Our page has a link to our website.

I think I'd strip the V10 w/dental floss & get a diesel emblem Ford has frm their pickups, PLUS like u say roll bar tubing. How much avg do u charge for adding tubing?

The emblem idea is a good idea, however, I’m not sure the thief’s are that articulate. Class C’s with a diesel are extremely rare and I doubt it will stop them from looking underneath. The roll bar prevention is an effective and inexpensive option. Please call the shop for current pricing. 916-421-0399
