Ya, somebody stole my dad's dodge ram Catalytic Converter this month in Portland Oregon area. This is a real problem that you won't know until you are a victim.

Good. Ask yourself who is in charge there...democrats and fascists....they hate law enforcement.

Had mine stolen two nights ago while my car was parked right in front of my house in ATX. Had no clue this was an epidemic that's been going around. Got a replacement CC and a Cat Shield that pretty much halved my savings. So distraught this happened, but I'm taking extra preventative measures seriously. Be safe and smart out there people. I bought a Prius and had 2 catalytic converters stolen six months apart. I had Muffler Tech do their lvl 3 protection over 18 months ago and since then I haven't had my catalytic converter stolen, it was the best investment ever. Its's worth the drive and even a hotel if needed (if you live further away) than going unprotected.

These thefts are becoming more prevalent in Orange County from what I hear on Nextdoor. No muffler tech down there though to fix them up. People in Sacramento are lucky to have a quality shop in their area.

I like my 2009 Prius but iam letting it go because they have stole my cat converter twice in 6 months here in California. Thinking about trading in for a bolt EV. I just put a cat converter shield but its just a detterent. Shops still get cars that had a shield on but did not prevent them from taking cat converter. Even though insurance covers it I still gotta pay $300-500 out of pocket every time they steal

In Lancaster, CA my F250 truck parks in my driveway at night. Several times its been broken into, even with an alarm. Four years ago, took a cattle fence charger, pounded in a ground rod next to the driveway, and connected the hot to the body of my truck. No more break ins, (but occasionally I hear someone yelp in the night). I place a red rag in the door handle as a reminder to turn it off and disconnect the jumper wire. Haven't lost my cat yet.

I understand why hybrids are targeted. But why Honda and Ford trucks?

It seems it's more prevalent in Democtatic run cities since the thief if caught will be released in a never ending cycle. Anything you can to do to invest will help.

This is true but it’s more likely that democratic run cities have higher populations, this equates to more cars registered in that region. There’s no doubt that proposition 47 contributes to the lack of punishment in this crime in California.

If you are it’s an oversight that you missed that the major cities of Texas have been slowly converting to blue. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin are blue according to your local Texas Tribune. You still have Corpus Christi and Ft Worth but it’s not looking good moving forward. Democrats liking foreigners and criminals more than other people doesn't seem plausible to me. Liking one kind of person more than other kind of people is not a road you should go down. The Foreigner part is probably the most implausible because everyone on the planet is a foreigner think about. Literally everyone is a Foreigner there is not one person that is not a foreigner. Being a foreigner means that anywhere you go you are subject to being discriminated against maybe murdered maybe ethnic cleansed etc by the way in case you're thinking you're not a foreigner

List of cars on thieves' list: 1999-2003 Ford F/E series 250 and 350 vehicles, Toyota Prius ( especially 2001-2009 ), Honda Element, Honda Accord ( four cylinder models ), and older model Jeep Cherokee SUV’s

It also appears that newer vehicles are high targets because the cat is newer, read this: “Clever thieves target newer vehicles because the rare metals are the easiest to extract before they experience heavy use. Anecdotal reports say hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius are most at risk because their gasoline engines tend to run less.” So basically they go after Cats that are not used as much or have not been used as much . New car buyers beware.

This has not been our experience at our shop. The newer vehicles engines have become more advanced and require less precious metals in their cats to meet the emissions requirements. They also (generally speaking) are using a lot more manifold cats which are a lot harder to remove from the vehicle.

Yeah, just had the catalytic converter chopped out of my 2005 CR-V in Portsmouth VA. last week.

Maybe a 220 heating pad under your car can cook the crooks

so basically park in well lit crowded parking lots (in between two cars to make it more difficult to steal), or in a home garage or at least off the street. Keep driveway well lit at night. Especially if you drive one of the targeted vehicles.

Doesn’t matter, I parked my car at a Kroger went into store at 7:30pm out at 8pm and it was stolen

Medical Center, Houston, TX. Monday/Tuesday twilight , at our gated condominium complex , broke thru the Fire Department lock on side entrance with bolt cutters. They jacked up my 2007 Prius and cut off the Cat. Discovered the crime when the engine sounded like unmuffled old Harley.

Have you reviewed the CatClamp? I'm looking at installing these on work trucks. Also any recommendation on universal 3" high flow cat for GM 6.0L?

I have not reviewed the Cat Clamp. I try to keep everything on my channel positive, I’ll leave it at that. As far as high flow cats they do not exist as a legal option for California for any vehicle, at least in a true 200 cell high flow format.

How bout you learn something for yourself and Jack the car up and see how hard it would be to get a Sawzall blade in there or a battery powered impact ratchet. I never even heard of a Honda clarity so I'm assuming it's a dinky slow commuter car. At least they will leave the rest of your car cuz no real man would drive something like that

The Camry Hybrid has two cats, the valuable one of the two is part of the exhaust manifold. It would be a lengthy proposition to steal one of these out of a car in a driveway or a parking lot.

Mine was just stolen :(

I have an idea, buy some of the cheapest ones, maybe 2-3pcs if you live in high risk area, and install it immediately, why wait, if they steal it, install another one, and when the time comes for smog check temporarily install an original one.

That is an option, however, it is not a legal one and it is difficult to get anyone to ship the parts to California. The other thing to consider is that relatively speaking there are no "cheap" catalytic converters and you would need to pay the labor on and off the car.
