Welcome to our crazy life. We are a mom and dad that moved our two horse-crazy girls from the city to the country in 2020, right before Covid hit. So much has happened since then. We now live on a hobby farm with horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl, ducks, bunnies, a livestock guardian dog and house dogs that are adjusting to country living. We have undertaken many renovations (both inside and outside), love sharing tips on how to repurpose items or do things on a budget, and are always looking for the next DIY project. Follow our horse journey and life on the farm as we vlog our daily lives with our animals.

To hard to decide. So much of them are beautiful on her. ❤❤
the mare did not refuse the foal.
What a great trainer. This is so much more beneficial for Katie and Stevie xx
Great lesson. Love this fellow. Might think of taking Stevie to the biggest field you have and running her all out. Start at a canter then start to encourage her to RUN, Lean forward pump her sides with your legs and holler to encourage her to RUN for quite a ways. Watch a barrel racer running after the last barrel. Your doing this to let her know her motor can go faster. You're just letting her know she can lengthen her stride. Horse are like an accordions. They can have short or long strides. This is just a couple time thing running to see if it helps free her mind to something new. We are always wanting to go slow and relaxed for our horses but many a rider on a jump course will yell to the horse before a difficult jump. We have to up our energy to up theirs. She is a more whoa then go so don't think her mind will go crazy running her a few times. Check field for holes and safety and don't do it if Kate doesn't feel safe. Just an idea. Stevie is a million dollar horse with her very sweet nature except for her kicking out saying I don't want to. 😂 She will get over that if when she kicks out Kate starts to turn her in very very tight small circles right then. First to the right then to the left several times. Thats more work than cantering so after doing this several times she will quit kick out. Now many jumpers let their horse buck and kick out on the course. A jumping horse is a different breed you ask so much of them over those HUGE jumps they allow it because they don't want to stop that engine. But on cross country no time for kicking out when the spur is used. Wonderful lesson. Susan
Using such a mild spur is just raising your voice a little when you ask for something. It's not a punishment, it's an emphasis. She's being taught the proper way to use them and in the end Stevie may not need them at all.
I was taught toes in, heels down!😀
Comprehensive trainer. Excellent. Thank you for your choice, parents.
Right away he is addressing her foot angle/placement.
When is Kate’s prom?? I am so excited to see which dress she chose!!
I absolutely love this trainer! He is actually teaching her every minute. There are no wasted movements. When he was telling her to make the canter bigger to decrease the likelihood of Stevie breaking into the trot, I was like YES! It took me back 55yrs (omg, I am seriously old). I remember my trainer saying something similar when I was so scared to jump the bank coming out of the water. I would canter toward the water and then just fall apart. I would let my horse trot through the water, then Sunny would stop and look around at me and yawn. I refused to believe my trainer that if I would canter the water, Sunny would hold the canter to the bank. Let me tell you, she was right.
Aww Congrats! Wow 2 Birth in one day!! How lucky ya'll are!!! They are all to cute!!
They are so tiny and precious! And Bear is enthralled with his new responsibilities. He absolutely knows he needs to keep them safe!
They're so precious
Absolutely adorable. ❤
Hey guys those baby goats are very cute. And so beautiful too. All my 💕🥰❤️🤗💖❤️💖 to all.
Like the way you used the bales of hay to keep the babies with mom.
Out of curiosity what color was the buck? Black is recessive, and they have to get two copies to be born black.. I’m assuming (lol and shouldn’t) that one buck sired all four kids.. but interesting you got two solid black and two Chamois
I have a mare we bought 2 months ago she started have milk 2 weeks ago and she is gutting fat ...you think she is pregnant?
I would contact a vet to examine her.
I tried but Unfortunately I can't get hold of one
Was she exposed to a stallion? Unfortunately, I am not a vet and even if I was, I could not diagnose something over the internet. I would definitely be concerned she could be pregnant though if she is producing milk and was exposed to a stallion. I do know there can be other reasons a mare produces milk though. I would keep trying to get a hold of a vet to come out and examine her, and in the meantime I would prepare just in case she surprises you will a foal. Best of luck.
@@BarnBootsandCountryRoots thanks.
They are so cute. You guys were great.
Bear is so cute watching them.
Better to stay nearby when they are having babies just in case.
Yes, absolutely. The plan was to go into the house and go out when she looked like she was going to start pushing so we were at the barn doors ready to go in when she was delivering, but Grace was cleaning the first baby and the other baby just shot out. So we threw our stuff back on and headed out… but all of a sudden that short distance to the barn felt way too long. Definitely won’t do that again.
I so appreciate the trigger warning! I came to read comments bc I don't have the stomach for this. It's so thoughtful for you to put a trigger warning! Thank you. Some things you just can't unsee! 😊 sounds like everything went well.
congrats on the new generation such healthy babies first time mums do get distracted good thing you saw the baby in distress and acted quickly ps/ blue cactus dairy goats have started their kidding season to
Grace isn’t a first time mom, so I’m not sure why she didn’t start cleaning the baby right away. We were lucky she had the baby while we were watching and could get to her right away. She is such a sweetheart. 🥰 Yes, I follow Blue Cactus Dairy, too 😊.
@@BarnBootsandCountryRoots maybe she was just having a over whelmed moment happens to the best of us
I’m in tears over how well your family works together. ❤
Thanks 🥰.
Why are you in tears? Hormonal? I appreciate this family, but tears? 🤷♀️
Congratulations!!! Adorable babies. ❤
Thank you!! 😊
Leo is adorable with his small head and long ears. He looks so soft!
He totally is…. well, they are all so soft. He was our biggest boy and Kate loved that he had long ears like Gideon did when he was born. Leo is likely staying with us I think. He reminds Kate of Gideon and he was her boy.
Mike and Sully are perfect names for those two!
They are seriously the absolute cutest personalities, too. I have a big soft spot for those two. 🥰
They are adorable!
Thanks. They are all so funny and lovable.
They are so cute,
Thanks 🥰
You guys did amazing g job letting them bond so none were rejected. Bravo for your quick response for Leo. Amazing team work I could tell you were feeeling scared but Scott was so calm and confident that you could get the airway cleaned out so she could breathe. ❤I watch weed em goats KZread the couple working together reminds me of you guys. She also has amazing information that you can print out on positions and what to do.
I watch them, as well. I have learned so much from them!😊
Yes, we’ve been watching them for years. I think the sheets I have in my kidding binder might be from them actually. I can’t remember because I made it a couple of years ago when our first babies were being born. I have definitely learned a lot from them and some of the other channels we follow.
I feel your tears. It never gets easier. I have the vet coming tomorrow... :(
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. It is so difficult to make the hard decision to say goodbye, but there is some comfort in knowing we do it out of love for our animals, and knowing that the sadness we are feeling is just a reflection of how much they are loved. I’m keeping you in your thoughts and prayers 💔😢.
Thinking of you today 😢💔
@@BarnBootsandCountryRoots Thank you. I just posted a memorial video to my gentle friend Dottie if you want to see her.
Oh my Jen. Luna has grown into such a beautiful looking mare. Welcome back to riding Julia. It’s so good to see you back in the saddle 🇦🇺😊
Thanks. Yes, Luna is a beauty.
The weather is nice, but we in BC didn't get the snow pack we really needed. Now we have a severe hay shortage (I've been having to feed hay cubes all winter because there simply is no hay to be bought). So while I do enjoy parts of the nice weather I'm worried about this year's hay crop and hoping our Province isn't on fire again this year. I always love your videos, they're fun to watch and your relationship with your animals is awesome. Keep on doing what you do, it's pretty darn great. :)
Thank you so much 🥰. Yes, I have been worrying about what the mild winter will mean for crops, hay, and forest fires as well. I love the mild winter weather, but it is terrifying to think of the environmental impacts that are causing these unusual temperatures. There are definitely some scary consequences we might be facing this summer as a result of it. I can’t imagine the stress you must be feeling, not being able to find enough hay.
Looking forward to seeing the shows this summer.
Kate, I like your regular words of praise to your horse. Your confident and fluid way of riding is wonderful. Seeing goats is fine for me if it doesn't totally eliminate the horses. Thanks ladies.
Thanks 😊
Kate YOU are just amazing, AND ALL the best with your show preparation. Julia TAKE care and all the best when you get trianing. TAKE care all and all the best. 😄😄😊😊👍👍💖💟
Thank you so much!
I have a Norwegian Fjord Horse in the USA. She did eventing with me, and hunters at a rated hunter show with a little girl I leased her to and won High point rider with her! I do dressage with her now, and am actually a para rider. My fjord has been my favorite pony. Flora looks like she moves very well, and would be a great dressage horse! The hardest part for them is they are a bit heavier on the forehand, so lots of half halters and teaching them to engage their hind end is key. The hardest gait for her will be the canter, as they want to throw their heads down and use those muscular shoulders and neck. It's easier for them than to rock onto their hind end. Highly recommend working with a dressage trainer who can help teach y'all this! My fjord beats even the fancy dressage warmbloods. Don't let anyone tell you that you can do dressage or jump because she's a "Fjord" :) I will never not own a fjord!
Thanks for the tips. Yes, I am the same as you, I can’t ever imagine not having a Fjord. I just love them. It is so true, people underestimate their capabilities.
One time I Had just got boots for my horse pretzel and we put them on him and I went walking around the trailer and he started walking so funny I was like pretzel what are you doing and then I brought him back to the barn and everybody was laughing at pretzel because how he was walking
Yeah, Stevie is pretty funny walking in her back boots when she hasn’t had them on for a bit. Just like those videos you see of dogs with the rubber boots on their feet 😂.
I found it 😂!!❤ TY
Where is the video of her labor and delivery?❤
Your horses look so sweet and great job riding. It looks warm, we are still having cold snaps here.
It was warm, then we just got a snow storm… but this afternoon is nice again. Not t-shirt weather, but definitely nicer 😊.
Hi ALL, so GOOD having some time OUT, AND the girl's are doing SUCH a good job, AND SO glad Julia is back ridding. And all the best with kate's plane's. TAKE care and all the best. 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍💖💟
Check out the bitless bridles. I find them more comforting and natural for the horse.
Yes, we have one.
Great job, Kate and Julia!
Maybe you should do ground and at the hand work with the fjord to teach the horse to do what you are asking. In the netherlands are many fjord horses, and a GP amazone brought even one to the subtop level. They learn to do all kind of tricks. They can jump but not so high, but enough to do hunting. But before teach him to jump first teach him to do what You're asking. Maybe they're stubborn but they're calm. 🥰
Yes, they are absolutely wonderful horses, so calm and gentle ❤. We always work on the ground with them and Kate has a lot of experience training good ground manners because of her work at the training facility. They are good on the ground, it is just getting her listening in the saddle. Again, it is not that she is being nasty, just her experience working with people who had no riding experience in a tourist trail facility (she was trained to not be sensitive to what different riders were doing… she’s just doing what she knows from her life before). It shouldn’t take her long to understand she needs to listen to the rider now. She is a sweetheart and once she is listening to her rider, and builds her fitness level and muscles, she will be a phenomenal horse for Julia and myself.
It looks like summer. Nice to see Kate and Julia riding outside again.
Nice riding today, girls! ❤❤
Good job girls. Thank you. 😋
Hi jenn! I was wondering if you could do a video showing how and how often you clean your animals enclosures ( chicken coop ect) . I use to own birds (budgies ect) and they are messy and require twice daily cleaning.
Maybe this isn't something you want to share and I understand if you don't. But I notice you no longer attend the lessons with daybyday. I think the last 3 that your hubby filmed. I'm wondering if you have had some kind of falling out with Laura?. Also I hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter.
I don’t mind sharing at all… No, we definitely haven’t had a falling out with them. We are actually really good friends and Laura and I usually talk every single day. We have missed some lessons for different reasons the last few months (weather, Kate’s work schedule, exams, etc). I’ve had to miss some lessons because of a cold, school meetings, and goat labour watch, etc., but not because I don’t want to be there. Really, the reason I haven’t been posting videos of those lessons is just because I am behind on videos and there are other people in the lessons now so it is harder to film without getting them in. Scott tries to help with filming if I’m not there, but he is still learning the ropes, and it is sometimes hard to pull useable footage from it…. He is definitely getting better though ❤️. So, I have just been focussing on other videos to get up because I don’t have to cut people out. Hope that helps clear things up. I hope you are getting this beautiful weather where you are and that you have a happy Easter as well.
