ABOUT US:
We moved from the city to the country in 2020, right before Covid hit. So much has happened since then. We now have horses (including Duke, AKA Johnny, from Day by Day Vlogs), goats, chickens, guinea fowl, bunnies, a livestock guardian dog and house dogs that are adjusting to country living (one more successfully than the other). We have undertaken many renovations (both inside and outside), love sharing tips on how to repurpose items or do things on a budget, and are always looking for the next DIY project. We started taking videos for family and friends to keep them updated on our journey as we navigate trading in city life for life on the farm... and decided others may be interested as well. So here we are on KZread, and learning the in's and out's slowly but surely.
We hope to produce video content that is entertaining (who doesn't love seeing horses and cute animals), allows you to follow our horse journey and life on the farm, provides you with some inspiration and ideas of things you can try in your own life, and hopefully gives you some helpful information.
If you or someone you know is interested in Horses, Goats, Bunnies, Chicken & Guinea Fowl, Livestock Guardian Dogs, DIY Projects, Before and After Home/ Garden/ Barn Makeovers, Tips/ Tricks/ Hacks, Country Living or Life on the Farm, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and hit the NOTIFICATION BELL so you never miss new videos being posted.

Kate seems to be a natural at working with horses. Not only is she a good rider but her calm happy demeanor is wonderful to watch whether she’s riding or working with one of the horses.

❤ This is a very good video. But there are a few things that you should change. Always demonstrate safety. This is for your future. When filming for children or anyone that doesn't know anything about horses. Have your horse stand in the center of the aisle when you are doing anything with the horse. Such as bending down to put on boots or even picking feet. Do not do it next to the wall. It is very dangerous. I do know and realize that your horses do know what you are doing, but the Watcher only sees what you are doing at that moment. Some Watchers will duplicate what you are doing. Second thing is never ever hook your reins/leadline/rope on anything that is not solid. I have seen so many times horses back up and pull on the reins or lead and pull a jump over move a gate and even tip over a chair and then accidents happened. Another thing I like to mention is your cross ties are too high for a pony this is very dangerous as well. For any unknown reason your horse is to rush forward and raised his head or even rear a little, she can flip herself over. I have seen it done in my own Barn The little pony broke her neck. These are good for taller horses. When they are short like this the cross ties should be down halfway at least. I prefer to have the cross ties just below their ears. No matter how quiet your horse is it only takes a second for something to startle her from behind. Also when working with my horses I take the lead rope and place it across my arm closest to her head this way when she moves forward I just squeeze my arm tight and it pulls back a little bit and say stand. It saves an extra action that you don't have to reach for the cross tie to put her back into position. Kust use the lead on your arm so when she moves forward you are not moving which causes the lead to tighten where you want her to be. This also is step one for ground tying training. I have also noticed that when you tack up your horses girth you do not stretch the leg out to pull out any wrinkled skin underneath the grith. I guess it's an English thing. When you do this action it protects your horse from getting Galls or sores. These sores or galls are the worst. I learned the hard way. I let someone else saddle my horse and without me checking halfway through the trail ride my horse started the favor his front leg. I just dismounted and saw nothing. I checked the foot and the shoulder. When I got back I found her skin rub raw. Her hair was rubbed off because the wrinkles skin wasn't stretched from the under the girth. I couldn't ride her for a month. Never never put your lead chain to one side to the other of the bit. If she happened to spook or she ran forward or backed up fast you would definitely hurt her mouth. This is very wrong. Her mouth is very tender and you want to keep it that way. I would be working on her halter leading. She should have automatically started the at a walk or trot. As soon as you move with a cue. You also lead too far forward. You should be beside her shoulder, if not slightly forward. Practice leading your horses like you are showing halter. So when you are in the showground you will have all this mastered. You want your horse to walk with you as a team not as a leader and not a follower you want her beside at all times but please do not put your chain under your horses chin attached to your bit. If your horse is playing with the bit get her a training bit with rollers it will give her something to do without chewing on everything. I don't know if you noticed that the chain underneath the chin tightened it wasn't loose like a chin strap. If you have a split bit in her mouth it causes pain at the top of the roof of the mouth. You have done a wonderful job on your horse. Keep up the good work and improve yourself as well. Practice leading your horse properly do not walk ahead or pull the horse along behind you. Again i praise you for the great job Kate you are doing. If get a baby I sure will love to send it to you. God Bless This only my opinion.

Another safety note is not flapping things around on the saddle when in cross ties. If you choose to do that it should be done with the horse in hand. If they freak out in the gross ties that can be a disaster.

@@SparkleJiggs yes and another thing to when working with the inexperience horse I use one cross tie oppsite of the side I'm working on and the side I'm working i have a leadrope on my arm or in hand. This helps me to have more control of any situation that arises and prevents a flip over. Thank you for adding what i missed.

Please look into some equine behaviour classes before claiming something is "stress free" for the horses.
