Is Julia going to take lessons on and show Flora? Flora seems like the perfect show pony for her, being smaller and calmer than Stevie. Fjords are very versatile and perform well in both dressage and jumping! And are you going to take lessons this summer, Jenn? I think you did great in that video you posted of yourself riding Flora last year! It’s nice to see Kate continue the work from lessons at home and how her and Stevie are improving. The new jumping and dressage coaches are really making them level up.

No, unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done. The vet clinic we deal with is so amazing, and we are so grateful for level of care, dedication and compassion they show to us and our animals. It was a small comfort to be reassured by the vet that there was nothing we could have done to prevent it, it was just a freak accident. But we miss our boy so much.

Watching Kate ride Stevie, it occurred to me that this would be a perfect time to train Stevie’s mane to the other side. Use hair gel (dare I say Dippety Do for your older fans) on one 2” .section at a time. No need to make nice show braids, just tight er up to the top. Braid the entire mane. Leave them in until the weekends, take the braids out, and let Stevie be braidless for a few hours, the braid her up again. After about 3 weeks, maybe 4, her mane will need pulled from the bottom. After that always brush to her right. She will present better at a show if she has nice braids.

Sorry about your lost. It look to me the same as my horse that had Lockjaw/ tetanus. My mare moved the same way as him. She survived but was very expensive. Also I would have all your animals tested for Lyme disease. Have it done in the State. Do not let the vet get away with the proper testing. Glad to hear the children are back in lessons. And happy to see that you put protected gear on the horses legs. God Bless.

@@coffeeandhorses7991 My personal knowledge that Canadian Vets does seem to have a good knowledge of recognize the symptoms of lyme disease. It is the last resort after every prognosis is ruled out. Then it is to late. Also Canada is not equipped to do correct/valuation of blood work concerning lyme disease plus other rare or uncommen illnesses. A good example of this is Chino one of DayByDay beloved horse. If the vets would have check this out earlier it would have been a different outcome. If you have a problem with the vet. Stand your ground and fight what you want done.I have 4 vets. One elderly one middle age and 2 younger. The reason for this because of their knowledge in certain areas. The new and old and experience are the benefits.

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience with your horse. It is so hard as owners to see our animals that we love in pain. Yes, when medical issues come up, it gets very expensive, very quickly. Funny enough, large animal vet bills (for the horses, goats, and chickens) are significantly cheaper than small animal ones (dogs, rabbits, etc). The vet bills we have incurred recently (just for the dogs) are not pretty, that’s for sure… several thousand dollars, by the time we are done with testing for Lyme, and getting the medication, and tick prevention from the vet (because the store bought ones we were using are no longer as effective against ticks in our area, we just learned), and then their yearly check up and vaccines of course. We are just grateful we found out what the issue was and there is an antibiotic she can take to reduce the disease symptoms. It’s all part of owning animals though. We plan on testing the others for Lyme just to be safe. Luckily, we have a phenomenal team of vets we work with (we actually have 3, based on the animals we have and the specialties that each vet clinic has). Each one is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, diligent, compassionate, always available for phone consultations, and come highly recommended by their peers and other customers. We definitely don’t ever have to worry that they aren’t doing everything in their power to provide the best possible care for our animals. We are so grateful to have them in our corner. ❤️

Sorry ladies, just saw the comments above now… in terms of Lyme, it can be tricky because the symptoms can be so varied and many symptoms are general ones that can also be something else… and many times it makes more sense that it is something else because Lyme can be asymptomatic for so long (sometimes years) and you may never have even known the animal or person was bit by a tick. For Chino, I do know he had a team of professionals and vets surrounding him and trying to help him. For Maggie, her symptoms didn’t actually meet a lot of the common Lyme disease symptoms, but she ended up being positive. For the testing in Ontario, the vet runs a preliminary blood test in office for Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses, and if those come back positive (we got results while we were still there), another test is needed and that one has to be sent out to have the full and detailed evaluation done that provides the specific counts (expensive, but necessary when the first one comes back positive - the results are needed to know how to proceed). We never expected it to come back positive. Looking back, we can connect the dots, but of course, hindsight is 20/20. My take on it… Maggie has been seen by a vet regularly, has always been on tick prevention, has her annual vaccines, but because it is such a tricky disease, I definitely don’t think it would be fair to say her previous vet was negligent in their prior assessments of her, and for not testing for Lyme earlier. It sometimes takes building a history of symptoms, prior treatments and outcomes, etc to get a clearer picture of what is going on to know what to test for next. Sorry for the long answer, but I hope it’s helpful and answers some of your questions.😊

@@BarnBootsandCountryRoots Thank you for your comment. I'm not good doing it sometimes. I only mention Chino so the person that asked about the disease. I felt it was a very good example for them to watch. I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. But some vets don't listen. Oh I didn't mention that I have 2 other vets for small pets and animals. God Bless

After I watched them do it on Weed ‘em and Reap, then I went to a neighbor’s farm and practiced finding the correct vein. It took me awhile, but I did it!!

Was Gideon bitten by a tick? No. He was perfectly healthy. We unfortunately discovered he had sustained an accidental injury during the night (we noticed his behaviour change the following morning). We immediately involved the vet, and followed the recommended treatment plan, but he wasn’t responding to it and instead seemed to be rapidly declining. We called for an emergency vet visit, and it was when the vet came to reassess Gideon and his new symptoms, that we narrowed down the true issue. We unfortunately do not know how it happened exactly, as it happened in the night, and we examined their area with the vet to make sure there was nothing that posed a risk, and there wasn’t. It was determined it was just a freak accident and nothing that could have been anticipated or avoided. Unfortunately, due to the injury, there was nothing that could be done medically for our sweet boy, and he could not recover, so we had to make the difficult, but humane, decision to say goodbye. 😢💔

I don’t mind sharing at all… No, we definitely haven’t had a falling out with them. We are actually really good friends and Laura and I usually talk every single day. We have missed some lessons for different reasons the last few months (weather, Kate’s work schedule, exams, etc). I’ve had to miss some lessons because of a cold, school meetings, and goat labour watch, etc., but not because I don’t want to be there. Really, the reason I haven’t been posting videos of those lessons is just because I am behind on videos and there are other people in the lessons now so it is harder to film without getting them in. Scott tries to help with filming if I’m not there, but he is still learning the ropes, and it is sometimes hard to pull useable footage from it…. He is definitely getting better though ❤️. So, I have just been focussing on other videos to get up because I don’t have to cut people out. Hope that helps clear things up. I hope you are getting this beautiful weather where you are and that you have a happy Easter as well.
