ABOUT US:
Welcome to our crazy life. We took a leap of faith in 2020, and uprooted our two horse-crazy girls from their life in the city and traded it in for life on a farm. We now live on a hobby farm in Ontario (Canada) with our horses, goats, chickens, peafowl, guinea fowl, ducks, bunnies, a livestock guardian dog and house dogs. Follow our horse journey and life on the farm as we vlog our daily lives with our animals.

I have a Norwegian Fjord Horse in the USA. She did eventing with me, and hunters at a rated hunter show with a little girl I leased her to and won High point rider with her! I do dressage with her now, and am actually a para rider. My fjord has been my favorite pony. Flora looks like she moves very well, and would be a great dressage horse! The hardest part for them is they are a bit heavier on the forehand, so lots of half halters and teaching them to engage their hind end is key. The hardest gait for her will be the canter, as they want to throw their heads down and use those muscular shoulders and neck. It's easier for them than to rock onto their hind end. Highly recommend working with a dressage trainer who can help teach y'all this! My fjord beats even the fancy dressage warmbloods. Don't let anyone tell you that you can do dressage or jump because she's a "Fjord" :) I will never not own a fjord!

Thanks for the tips. Yes, I am the same as you, I can’t ever imagine not having a Fjord. I just love them. It is so true, people underestimate their capabilities.

It was warm, then we just got a snow storm… but this afternoon is nice again. Not t-shirt weather, but definitely nicer 😊.

Check out the bitless bridles. I find them more comforting and natural for the horse.

Maybe you should do ground and at the hand work with the fjord to teach the horse to do what you are asking. In the netherlands are many fjord horses, and a GP amazone brought even one to the subtop level. They learn to do all kind of tricks. They can jump but not so high, but enough to do hunting. But before teach him to jump first teach him to do what You're asking. Maybe they're stubborn but they're calm. 🥰

Yes, they are absolutely wonderful horses, so calm and gentle ❤. We always work on the ground with them and Kate has a lot of experience training good ground manners because of her work at the training facility. They are good on the ground, it is just getting her listening in the saddle. Again, it is not that she is being nasty, just her experience working with people who had no riding experience in a tourist trail facility (she was trained to not be sensitive to what different riders were doing… she’s just doing what she knows from her life before). It shouldn’t take her long to understand she needs to listen to the rider now. She is a sweetheart and once she is listening to her rider, and builds her fitness level and muscles, she will be a phenomenal horse for Julia and myself.
