ABOUT US:
Welcome to our crazy life. We are a mom and dad that moved our two horse-crazy girls from the city to the country in 2020, right before Covid hit. So much has happened since then. We now live on a hobby farm with horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl, ducks, bunnies, a livestock guardian dog and house dogs that are adjusting to country living. We have undertaken many renovations (both inside and outside), love sharing tips on how to repurpose items or do things on a budget, and are always looking for the next DIY project. Follow our horse journey and life on the farm as we vlog our daily lives with our animals.

    Yes, we have thought of that as well. We have had professional pictures taken here for friends and they turned out beautifully.

    Csn you ask your customers and friends to return/donate cartons? When my sister had chickens she was forever scroungng cartons off everyone and anyone.

    Yes, we do, but we can’t reuse any with rips or staining. We are selling way too many eggs now also for the amount of cartons that come back.

    In no time you will have 50 goats. But can you let them 24/7 outside, or is it to cold? Another problem will be the predators. Gees should be good protectors, also donkeys aren't afraid and even attack wolfs and foxes. They bite and kick them. 😊

    Yes, we have Bear (our livestock guardian dog). He stays with the animals and guards them. All our animals get locked up at night to sleep because of predators, but he keeps them safe during the day.

    Have you ever done the math to see how much each chicken. Costs to care for each month. Wonder what the actual profit would be on eggs

  • @BarnBootsandCountryRoots

    @BarnBootsandCountryRoots

    There is not much profit on the eggs. We make most of our money from breeding the chickens, and it gives us our eggs for free basically.

    OMG, 5 CAD$ for 1 egg? Here in caribean 1 egg cost 0,1CAD, and we find it's to much, because 1 year ago it was 0,07$😅

    No, not for one egg, for a dozen eggs (a pack of 12). In the stores they can go as high as $7-$12 depending on where you shop and the kind of eggs, but for the most part they are around $5/ dozen give or take.

    I know, you’re right. Everything is expensive here, especially since Covid started. One hundred dollars spent at the grocery store doesn’t seem to get you much anymore.

    No, I think that was what I was replying to on another comment somewhere… I think you said that he is outside with the animals and protects them 24/7. You had it right 🙂. He does such a good job and loves it. We can’t even drag him into the house if we want to, he puts up such a fuss to stay outside with his animals in the barn. He is a working dog breed, so it is so ingrained in their DNA to stay with their charges. And because his breed originates from the Pyrenees mountains, he hates nice weather and is happiest when it is freezing outside. We are in a mild spell right and he is definitely missing his frigid temperatures and snow 😂.
