Philip Williams Home Inspections
Philip Williams Home Inspections
Hello Friends!
I hope my videos give you an insight into how I think... and my passion for all things related to homes, repairs, and inspections.
Since 2008 I have been self employed doing home repairs and remodeling projects. Before that I worked for a company doing roofing, remodeling, some new construction and foundation repair work.
Also in 2008 I graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.
I currently reside in Chase County, Kansas.
Learning never stops. My goal is to share with others some things I have learned along the way. (And learn from you too!)
Thank you for watching.

It worked for me as well ! I tried all the things you mentioned first ,battery, starter and then I found your video ! Thanks man !
I have the same problem but mine will not start.
Does it go fast?
the flame isn’t too bad considering its gravity, is it natural gas or propane?
Natural gas
I found an easier way to get it started. I manually turn the engine clockwise to just past top dead center of the compression stroke. From that point there is enough momentum where the engine will continue to spin and start.
Awesome!!!!!!
Because it was cool back then. I have a sunken shower from 1977.
Bro that’s #4 triplex it’s good for 110amps you’ll never be able to pull that much on ur house so don’t overthink it
Well, that got it cranking. Not turning over though.
Yeah it just digs in and and digs in, and because it's so stringy it just doesn't split. I have elm all over my property and also maple, and I split all the maple, then the next day it was elm time. It took a single hour of trying to split elm and in comparison I got maybe 5% elm split compared to maple in that time frame. What turned into a single day for maple would have taken me weeks and half killed myself in the process. Nasty stuff. Although I will say this, elm is AMAZING firewood. It really is. It burns great and lasts long.
Some elm I can split, most is not worth the hassle to me.
Yeah it just seems like such a waste of time. You get done with 1 log 4 ways and then you've used a ton of energy, full swings with an 8 lb maul.@@philipwilliamshomeinspecti4665
What if my service is underground?
THANK YOU!!! THIS is the only video i could find addressing this issue. I'm a painter and was scared AF Abt touching this line while painting or using my latter.
Excellent. Best explanation of all videos of this type. Thanks.
This worked great for me. Thank you so much!!
That's great.
Could this also cause the compression to stay released? The mower souns freely, but no compression.
I have an octopus! The building is well over 100 years old and is in the oldest part of town (which was settled early to mid 1800s) and I believe I was told it is the ORIGINAL furnace. When it was first installed it burned coal! It was converted and they added a unit that burns natural gas years ago. I really hate it, my gas bills are astronomical in the winter, my sinuses get irritated whenever it kicks on after a period of non-use, it takes up an uncomfortable amount of space in an otherwise spacious basement, and the heat does not flow to the master bedroom at all (yes, I checked and re-checked every possible reason for this, it appears that it is just positioned too far away from that room and the room is on a corner of the building with two outside adjacent walls. It gets so cold in that room in the winter even with the furnace running that water can freeze if you leave it overnight. It also has the exact same asbestos lined tubes to carry the heat and they are difficult to not disturb because you have to duck and lean to avoid hitting them with your face just to travel back and forth across the basement so I am perpetually worried that I am living in a big box of poison. It even looks terrifying because the main chamber is a round shape just like a giant basement octopus, it is literally a nightmare furnace.
In your case it sounds like it's time for a modern gas furnace. Should be able to use existing ductwork.
Couldn't believe this worked. Same mower with the same issue. Can also start if in the choke potion with the throttle.
I ran into a problem yesterday at a clients house and could not unmount their undermount cast iron bar sink. I was able to use my isolating tool to make a 1 inch clearance. Then I attempted to use my reciprocating saw to finish the job. Nooooo Bueno. Not sure what type of epoxy or gorilla hair glue 😆 they used, but it was eating my blades for lunch. Have you ever ran into this? Or what blades do you recommend? Is it as heating it up like you demonstrated?
I was just on another video and it is absolutely insane to see so many people having the same problems years before you
You really shouldn't be touching those wires as that is just a coating not insulation you can still get lit up bad .
That mast should be higher than point of attachment I know that well at least in my state
Bravo 🙏🙏💐💐💐 brilare ancien modèle 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍✨🇩🇿
I still have one In use can confirm it needs no power at all but can use a blower to help it extract more heat
So much asbestos
Can you please tell me what the six-sided adapter that you have at the top of the discharge line is and possibly where I can purchase one?
We had one of those in our old house in Northern Ohio. Ran consistently into the late 90's until our house was demolished. We moved into a newer home with a Trane XE 80 furnace now 19 years old. We pretty much had our Trane XE 80 rebuilt 3 times since we moved there in 1998. From control boards going out, fan motors burning out, heat exchanger needing replaced & just about everything else in there all replaced at least 3 times since 1998. That old Homart furnace my grandfather had installed in early 1960's (similar to the one in this video) other than replacing a gas regulator, replacing a burner, thermostat & having to relight the pilot light every now and then was by FAR a better furnace then this new modern junk they build now, asbestos & all. EPA more concerned with emissions & that's all great but if a home is poorly insulated emission laws don't matter.
Im in nèed to replace my gas valve in my unit. I live in Minnesota
Thank you for sharing your experience and tips. I feel better now with having some options to remove mine.
You are welcome.
Great information even for a girl who knows nothing, and had concerns. I can rest a little easier tonight😉
fantastic video. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it to turn - replaced battery, solenoid, and starter - turns to compression stroke and stopped. Your trick worked. Need to see how to replace the compression release now.
My grandfather had one of these but it had been originally a coal furnace converted to oil. My grandparents bought the house in the 1930s it was coal at the time. It took up the whole basement (octopus) in the 70's My grandfather had hot water baseboard gas installed and it was tiny in comparison.
So can I paint my grass with that shellac base primer if not, what kind of primer should I use on my grass if I want to change the color of my grass
Are you sure it’s a black beetle?
Have you ever seen one of these beetles? Do you know what color it is?
Is it a male or a female beetle?
I appreciate this video so much! Thank you! My livingroom looks like this!
Should of just got an adult size one much better ride these minis are really just for kids in my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
how did that heat exchanger look tho........ ive never found one not compromised.
That was asbestos. Many of those old gravity furnaces were coal burners from the 10s/ 20s, converted to oil/gas in the 40s, and blowers added in the 50s. If you see a big square box with a belt driven motor attached to this round furnace, that was a blower package added in the 50s likely. If you see a house with a concrete bunker under the front porch, with a big hinged iron door on the side of house, (near the porch) that was for coal deliveries. Those rooms / bunkers are often still black to this day. (35 year heating man)
Hello I have a problem with one like that I’m never see one.. the flame no coming up.. I dot have no power and any of the components
Great vid 😎👍 ..... My question is Where did you you get the replacement part @ for ubder $40 🤔🤔🤔
Mine is randomly doing something similar, my “fix” is to move the “collar” which is immediately below the starter gear, clockwise at least a quarter turn, then the engine starts up. I am here bcs I too am wondering if the starter bearings have a worn spot? Guess i will try the air intake trick, im not sure my theory is correct…
Thanks Phil...If owner wants to install Tesla charger in garage,,100 amp box will have to go
Do you know how to get the burner to turn on after the pilot is lit?
check to see if gas valve is opening and igniye
What would cause it to not continue running after taking you hand off but keep running when leaving your hand on?
You don't give functionality. Sq ft or how many people can get hot shower
I just picked this up. I’ve primed an old interior wall several times with killz. It’s a wall made up of repurposed wood that was in the house we bought. I’m praying this works. I also called under the trim and it turned black for some reason, so I’m praying this will work for that as well because the kilz didn’t do nothing but killz my pocket for $95! Lol!
When i start it and pull down the white long things for run my engine shut down. Any tips for it?
Did you have to add oil
Thanks ! . . .exactly the problem I was having ! SOLVED
