Sunken Bathtub - Rare!
This is a first for me!. A sunken bathtub. This was part of the original design of the house from back in 1960.
It doesn't have much time left on this earth because a walk in shower will be taking its place soon. The homeowners thought it an interesting idea years ago. The only problem is that getting in and out is a bid awkward, especially for senior citizens.
The tub itself is a standard tub not designed to be sunken. It was framed out during construction to accommodate it.
Glad I was able to get a quick video before it gets removed.

i just bought a house with a sunken tub too! looking at other houses in my neighborhood (south florida) it seems like most had them the house is from late 70s. currently trying to see how much it will cost to reno.
Because it was cool back then. I have a sunken shower from 1977.

Leveling the floor to meet the standard for a 21st century bathroom is a Terrific example of individual taste. Seeing your sunken tub video is very cool...The timing is right on as we are considering a master bath remodel. Looking to convert our large walk-in shower to a Shower/Roman tub.. aka= a sunken tub. But not extravagant like the ridiculous paper our neighbors are spending on their new home. 170,000 dollars for a 700 square foot bathroom 400 square feet is framed and pre-plumbed for a salt water streaming "sunken tub," (a wading pool.) Chevy Covette vs a Ferrari ? (Me#Vette) Or A Terry cloth Robe vs A Toga. ? Tomato .. 🍅. 🙂😊😌 Thanks for the view.

You should see mine - the tile is hideous but it was also a 60's sunken roman tub. I do like the concept though - I'd love to see pictures of your remodel if you choose to do it because I need ideas on how to make my guest bathroom shower/roman tub work for me here and now.

Did you remove and renovate? We have a sunken bath tub, will remove it.
sooo we just came across a sunken bathtub last weekend. We are looking to buy a home, and we do like this home, BUT DO NOT like the sunken tub...do you know how to raise it, or if it is a difficult task? another thing is the ceiling above it is slanted...ugh. WHY! just WHY!? :)

It's a home that we went and looked at...I think we made the decision to take it off our possibilities list. I could send you the address and you could look it up on Trulia or Zillow

I’m a builder nothing crazy gut the tub route plunking higher with correct Slope then frame then put shower or tub over that it’s not a small task not a large one just having the correct person to do it
