    Dave as much as I enjoy your channel and off grid tips. this one is useless. if the floating accessory doesn't touch the water it cannot be of any benefit. By the time your pool noodles touched water it would be FAR too late and she'd roll and you'd be swimming

    Nothing like cutting firewood. My father and I cut wood. I started when I was 14 and I’m 60 now. Dad worked in the woods until he was 86. We cut the softwood for pulp and logs. We have ample maple and birch for firewood but you have to use what you have. Great video.

    Hey Dave I don’t know very much at all about solar. I have a hunting cabin that is totally off grid. I use two Honda generators to run everything in my cabin. Can you tell me exactly what I would need to run the refrigerator that you have with solar only. I’m usually only there on the weekends during hunting season so I would need it to run totally off of solar since we only run the generators when we’re there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi there, I would recommend at least 400 watts solar array, but you could get away with a smaller solar array. I am personally running my solar(DC) deep freeze on its own solar system. It is connected to 4 (6 volt) GC15 lead acid batteries. The shorter the distance from your fridge to the batteries the better as it won't lose as much with resistance. I have 600 watts in solar and just a cheap mppt charge controller. Basic wiring that's sufficient enough to handle the load, and a couple of alligator clips to connect to the batteries. Hope that helps. It's been running 24/7 for years now without any issues.

    Just wanted to update this review. Year 4, with a bit of sharpening I'm still thrilled with this Auger! This is an excellent Auger. kzread.infoUgkxe0I-fnTUByahTCyStrIBXsesSkQJKn8n It splits to 1/2 size for storage in the warm months and easily assembles for winter use. I can cut holes in less than a minute by and really don't feel the need to ever adapt this to use with a drill. It cuts easily with the included blades (which can be sharpened or replaced as needed) and has held up extremely well through last season, and now for the first cuts of this season. I do recommend this to anyone who asks, and personally prefer this over powered augers. These are quiet, still quite fast, lighter, and don't risk spilling chemicals into our waterways. I plan to do a lot of fishing this year through the ice, thanks to this trusty Auger. The 8" diameter is great for fishing pike through the ice as well.

    I'm watching this to plan on a fire pit for my family. The gas prices have been rising so much I need to take action now for our cooking needs also it's been freezing at home. I have a local hiking trail with very nice stones and sizes I can carry back home and with enough I can build this pit. My 2 concerns are: 1. we live in an area prone to high gusts of winds. I am concerned about the fire blowing out or taking embers along. 2. There are some sparse trees in the yard that can break the wind but I don't want any fire so close to tree/foliage. Our backyard landscape needs some figuring out.

    Sweet setup, if a little cramped. But I'm not sure I'd want to mess with solo setup of a tent much bigger than that. And you've got everything you need. Maybe it's just the camera, though. Guess I'll have to go see Part 1!

    Blades must be sharp, speed and torque set accordingly, and the drill will not burn up. 8" auger is fairly large for the drill adapter.

    What kind of battery are you using

  • @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors
    @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors Жыл бұрын

    I'm using 6 volt flooded lead acid batteries in a 24 volt array. If you were planning to power the fridge only, and deep cycle battery will work fine, I would consider having a large reserve that doesn't discharge the battery (batteries) lower than 50%.

    Good info, thank you. To be clear. You say you use 200 watts of solar power to charge batteries and run your freezer. Is 200 watts enough solar power to keep up during the summer time ambiant heat? I'm trying to figure out all that I'd need to install a 7 CF solar power freezer. Thank you for any info you can provide me

  • @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors
    @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors Жыл бұрын

    Hi there, I recently switched the array to utilize 600 watts for the freezer, no issues whatsoever. As you can see in the video, the freezer is stored inside of a poly storage shed and the ambient temperature is often very high during the summer months. It has been working flawlessly with the 600 watt array and a bank of 600 amp hours.

  • @rockhoundingeasternwashing5308
    @rockhoundingeasternwashing5308 Жыл бұрын

    @@DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors perfect, from what I've kinda learned, 200 watts seemed very low. Think I'll go with around a 1000 watts just to be sure. By the way, how many CF is your freezer?

  • @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors
    @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors Жыл бұрын

    It's 9.3 cubic feet. It uses about 630 watt hours/24 hours with an ambient temperature of 77° F. with the freezer set to 3.2° F.

    I bought this tent several years ago, not to do winter camping, but as an emergency tent in case of a disaster. I'm in Canada and about 40 years ago I had a winter tent made here by a company called Kanuck. It only needed two poles and 4 pegs and could be put up in a windstorm. The inner and outer linings were sewn together so you didn't have the 2 stage set-up like this tent. It won a design award somewhere. The company still exist but I can no longer find it. A few years ago I started searching for a new tent and it had to have a few options. 1st it had to have only two poles and instead of just hooking them on to the tent they should pass through sleeves. Also I wanted the orange color and because this is a dome shape I think it would survive better in a strong snow storm. Also I wanted to have a skirt so I could put snow on the skirt. lastly it had to be a decent price. This tent fits all the criteria perfectly. The other use I have for it is to make a micro shelter in a house in case of a power outage.
