    Hi Jen, thanks for the very kind words! These tents are an experience like no other, compared to Winter camping. I have camped in my four season tent that is a much different set-up, if I do plan a trip where lightweight gear is the only option I focus my gear and tools a little different. You certainly have a lot of experience likewise, hopefully some day you can get a wall tent and enjoy similar adventures! Take care.

    Hello Dave! That looks like a real sturdy tent frame! It looked cozy in there! The food sure was appetizing! The meals that you eat whenever you're camping out just seem to be a little better than the ones you eat at home! Later buddy!

    Hi Todd, thanks buddy! It always seems that the food cooked while outdoors or camping is much tastier! I hope all is well down your way this Spring... we are currently flooded out here in my neck of the woods and the only access road washed away a few hours ago. Take good care.

    This is an old video, but I've been watching lately cuz I think I'm gettin the bug to get away. Anyway I'll add a few things that I bring along . . . I generally camp well away from town so I pack toolbox in case the truck breaks down. Bailing wire is a small item that if you need a quick fix on a broken item. Lighter fluid. I don't use the stuff on my bbq at home anymore (charcoal chimney, works great), so the same bottle has lasted years. Especially in the Northwest, fuels can often be too wet to light, especially quickly in an emergency. I keep a five gallon h20 jug for emergency/put out the fire on the last day, with shovel to stir the embers. Shovel also works to clear out the tent footprint. Okay, that's enough, learn as ya go. That's half the fun of wall tent camping. Changing it up a bit year to year, deciding what is essential-nice to have-meh.

    Not at all yet, but planned to many times and got weathered out. Once I get my garage built it won't matter about the weather regardless the time of year because I'll have a place to hang it up and properly dry it out before storing it away.

    Hey buddy, plenty of camping gear to prepare. I didn't do much this year no, it's been a busy last couple of years away from the outdoors. I just recently hooked the water back up, I am now cut off from the road with all the flooding from yesterday and tonight. The road is washed away, should be fun.

    1:26 everything is so cutely organized on the table. Such an aesthetically pleasing moment. Also quick question. Is the tent waterproof? How does it work in hard heavy rain? What's up with the floor? Any bugs coming in since it attaches with velcro?

  • @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors

    @DaveWilcoxJrOutdoors

    Thank you! The tent is waterproof regardless of how heavy the rain is, the canvas is a marine type material that doesn't allow any water penetration. There is no floor in this particular tent, no issue with bugs during summer, winter is not of any concern, I sometimes just place heavier narrow objects on the bottoms of each wall to keep rodents out. I enjoy winter camping the most since there are no bugs, the wood stove heat and crackling... it's very relaxing.

    I never heard someone talk about this so I will ask... could someone live in that sort of tent as a bug out location for all seasons just say near a water source with lots of trees? Everyone I watched so far take Dow the tent in the spring, is it waterproof? Would it get mouldy? Is there a shelter that is 4 seasons? I know it is a weird question, I am just making plans, in case... you don’t loose anything by planning ahead in my opinion. Thank you for your videos, they are very educative.

    Hi Nicole, this type of tent is absolutely capable of year round living. Most canvas tents these days are made with mold resistant material, this tent is made with a marine type canvas intended for use with sail boats. For anyone who intends to use these wall tents for a longer period, I would suggest placing a tarpaulin a few inches above the tent on the roof to prevent any risk of any precipitation penetration. They are generally waterproof... however extra precautions such as a tarp would ensure the tent will not leak. If inside the tent and touching the canvas while raining, it might cause a leak, but I've never had that issue. Any further questions I am glad to help you! In my opinion, yes, these tents can be used as a year round shelter to keep you out of the elements. 🙂

    Dave Wilcox Jr Outdoors : thank you so much for the explanation. Not everyone will have a shelter to run to when TSHTF, lol. I was also thinking that there is no use in getting all geared up ( probably not a word ) and collect tones of food and water if you don’t have a get away location. This could do well if it is resistant to northern Ontario Canada of -35C and over as well as resisting the wet hot climate that we now have in summertime. The gears were more then the tent (money wise) because winter sleeping bag are so costly. I like this model and the tent shop has some that I like as well, it seems that this style would last longer then the pole system since you can always cut more trees. Not to create fear mongering but I am convinced that we are not living in normal things and everyone should have a plan. Thank you again for the info.

    Hi there, I grew up in a military town, an air force base. I am very familiar with many of the good quality tools used like the sleeping bag. Many thanks to you for your service, I still have many friends from over the years who have served or still serve.
