    So I’m doing an 8.5 and I over-crushed the sleeve to about 40, I’m gonna try to do what you said about backing off the nut a bit but wouldn’t that make it a little sloppy?

  • @c130aviator
    @c130aviatorАй бұрын

    Yes but it's a crush sleeve. Think about how that works. It's springy and spongy. If you back it off and it's loose you must replace it. If you back it off and it's still tight the tension is still there. It's not like using shims that you can get perfect. Crush sleeves offer a little forgiveness.

  • @diesel1586
    @diesel1586Ай бұрын

    I backed it off and then retorqued it to 20 inch pounds and it feels tight, there isn’t any play in it but I’m a little concerned that once I start driving the truck things might loosen up and I don’t wanna trash a new setup, it’s in a K10 Squarebody with 33s and a small lift so I’m sure it’s going to put some pressure on it. And thanks so much for getting back to me, I really do appreciate it

    Note, the grill hole for air intake on a gladiator, when driving in a snow storm WILL ice up and caise your glady to get real slow on the highway, chokes off the air supply significantly. No joke, the first bend in the tube feom the grill as it goes back clogs up with ice and snow, bad design. Only when driving during falling snow or ice storms.

  • @c130aviator
    @c130aviator2 ай бұрын

    @c130aviator I don't know, I just keep replacing burners or shields, pretty much every year. I keep it clean every time I use it but doesn't matter. Either the grease or the weather destroy them. Under a porch! You're right, they are cheap, but I'm worried to spent 2 grand on a BBQ now...

    Good information, I know this is a 4 year old video, but I recently bought a JT, and I like to get every bit of info I can on my 4x4s. I used to have a 2008 Nissan Titan. One thing that is cool about the Nissan version of these Dana 44 axles is that they are screw adjusters instead of shims. I put a Yukon Grizzly locker in mine and screw adjusters make it easy to set back lash. Yukon doesn't make that version anymore for the Nissan, but I digress.

    On your next build, have the main caps reamed to 1/2 and the block rethreaded to accept 1/2" studs. Have it align honed. That will reduce cap walk. The girdle will decrease it, but the cap can still walk because of the clearance between the cap bore and the 7/16" bolts you're using. And the DSS unit is the best EVER.

    Hope nobody confuses this for an actual alignment. These steps will not change the actual alignment. It is only about centering the wheel. The Jeep can track straight with a good alignment and have the steering wheel off center and a Jeep can have bad alignment with the steering wheel centered.

  • @c130aviator

    The reason the steering is off center is because the axle shifted off center. You should center the axle first, then center your steering wheel.
