Thanks for doing this video. Picking up my new 2020 tomorrow. I told sales rep about the TSB. He said he went and had a tech drive it and said there’s no issue and this gladiator doesn’t need the upgrade. I didn’t check to see if it was the black steel or the aluminum box when I test drove it. I learn either way tomorrow and even if it’s the aluminum one, this dealer won’t change it. They’re 3 hours from my house so I’ll get a local dealer to do it soon.

My dealer replaced mine when I requested it... it’s changed my life! I will say that my Synergy HD crossbar still has a positive effect... thanks for your videos.

It was a technical service bulletin for both. You can call your dealer to find out if your truck is part of the parts that are affected.. They should say. They have all of your truck’s information on file

I noticed some steering "drift" in my 2020 Gladiator on the highway so after researching I found out about the steering box issue. I took my Gladiator in for an oil change and to have the speedometer recalibrated after installing 35s and I told them about the steering drift. When I picked it up the service tech said that they confirmed the steering issue but did not have time to install the new steering unit and scheduled me for the next opening 2 days later. I took it back in and had the new steering box installed and I can tell you there is a noticeable difference on the highway. The Gladiator tracks better and the slight back and forth drift that required almost constant attention is gone. My dealer was top of this problem and gave me no pushback at all.

Local to me, people are waiting months for replacement because I’m told (by 3 dealers) that MOPAR only allows them to order 1 every 7 days. I have a friend in Upstate, SC only wait a week. Thanks for showing how the updated part looks!

I have text messages from my dealer dated 14 Sept when I dropped off the Jeep for inspection. The parts got here 27 Oct. The install was done 4 Nov. 7.5 weeks to get it done.

If your dealer gives you flak about your jeep steering do what i did.after 8 times in the shop and 31 of the first 48 weeks i owned it, i told them i want lemon law filed on it.then the service manager got involved.i took him on a test drive with him driving,got on the interstate and took him thru constuction road at 65 mph.when he hit the uneven curve he nearly crashed us.swap lanes 3 times before he got it stopped.i didnt have no more problems getting it fixed.biggest issue waswrong programming on steering inputs.mine was set as a 2 door jeep,and its a 4 door.steering was over compensating my inputs.now im getting the steel box done as soon as it comes in.i got no bs from the dealer either.

so I took my JL in back in Nov and they said it needed the new box. So I got on the list and waited over 2 months, When I finally dropped it off at the dealer they called later that day and told me the box that came in had now been recalled. They said that box was flawed and not completing fixing the issue. So I got on another waiting for the new version of the steel box. Didn't take long though. Dropping it off tomorrow for the replacement. (2/1/21). guess we'll see. But ask your dealer about getting the correct box

I got my steering gearbox and track arm replaced a few months ago

I took my gladiator back to the dealer I ordered from twice with in 15k. Central Florida Jeep Chrysler Ram , they told me the tsb is not for my jeep. at 20 K i took it to Lithia CjR in Sanford and tolled the service advisor to compare my jeep with a 2021. and they replaced the steering gear box.. wow what a major improvement.

I finally got my TSB done Brandon they also found some issues with my drag link & tie rod...it feel better but it still has a slight shim to it...i think it’s my Teraflex adjustable trac bar

Dealer ordered the steel for me, now we play the waiting game.

I picked up my 2021 Gladiator after Christmas, been on the lot for less than a month, probably built around the time you did this video. My steering is terrible. It takes all the fun out of driving it. I wander all over the road, I'm surprised I don't get pulled over as a suspected drunk driver. After seeing your video I just went outside and looked at my steering box and it is black, so I'm guessing that's the new part. I was already to buy the Synergy front track & sector shaft brace to fix it but now maybe I will see what the dealer will do to fix it, if anything. Thanks, I didn't realize there was any kind of recall.

@@EmiratiAuto Build date was 10/20, I checked and I have the black steering box which is the steel one I believe. No lift, just 33 Falken Wildpeaks off of a Wrangler Rubicon. I am actually taking it back into the dealer in the morning. The Jeep Service Manager here in St. Louis at the dealer where I bought it reached out to me last week regarding my steering issues. He asked me to drop it off with him for a couple of days so he can drive it and see what they can do to fix it. So hopefully after he has a chance to check it out they can take care of the problem, otherwise I going to trade it in on a full size pickup as it's not enjoyable in the least to drive it on the highway.

@@EmiratiAuto Sorry , I lost track of time. Dealer replaced my steering box and steering damper but no improvement. It was so bad I sold my Gladiator in May. I guess I'm a gluten for punishment as I just bought a new Gladiator last week. It's still a 2021 and it still has the same steering issue, terrible wandering. I missed having a jeep so I figured I would do the after market Sector Shaft bracket, and any other suggestions from other folks and then just live it. It's ashamed that Jeep hasn't address this steering issue.

I have a 21 with the black gearbox and took it in to have looked at. Dealership told me it was fine. let me tell you the wondering on the highway is horrible. Next time I wanna go in with the tech well driving my Jeep.

Have you had to adjust the box after getting the iron box?

Does this only effect 2020 model year ? I have a 2021?

Did you have the Synergy Brace when you went in for the TSB?

On 10/05/2020 I special ordered my 2021 2 doors Rubicon , arrived to the dealer 11/23/2020 unfortunately I have a lot of problems with the steering, and it wanders to right very bad . I only drove it 200 miles and it has been at the dealer since then (6 days)

Sucks that those of us out of warranty are s.o.l. Wish they would fix their mistakes

So all i need to do is remove that billett silver piece and replace the nut and I should be good to go for them to get to it without any extra steps on their part? (So they don’t charge me extra)

Correct. The large bracket stays in place as the put on the new box. My dealer was cool about it.

Hello, I've been watching your YT channel. Question: when you took your Jeep to the dealer to have the steering box replaced with new one, did you remove the whole synergy system (Track bar brace, Sector shaft brace, and Sector shaft nut)? Would it be better if I just leave the track bar brace still attached and I'll just remove the sector shaft brace with the nut? Please advise. Thanks!

So the only thing you took out is silver sector and the bracket stay so meaning tech only replace the 4 bolts on top holding the steering gear box right?

Anyone run into the problem the dealer says there is no recall and will not replace the steering gear box. I have the Aluminum one and they will not replace mines

Contact jeepcares. Some have had to fight it.

jeep dealers make this much more difficult and painful than it should be. took 2 months and a call to jeep care. drives great afterwards

@@epho4772 there is a line in the service bulletin that says, if customers complain about any of the the above ( shitty steering) then perform the repair. Period. Try another dealer

I need to get into a dealership before my lift arrives in December. It is not a Mopar lift and they will most likely tell me to F off. Hopefully if they say ok, then i bring back with lift, they wont say anything.

I just got my 2021 gladiator yesterday and it feels like I'm trying to hover a Chinook off the side of a mountain in afgan....I just checked to see if I had the black box and I did I don't like it I want my challenger back

My 21 Wrangler has that wander and sloppy steering. It was built 08/20

I got the Wrangler back and the difference is like day and night. It's definitely the STEERING BOX. Now I'm just waiting for the Gladiator. The service lady told me today that they won't be able to order it on the 24th coz they could only order 1 per dealer within 24 days. It's well worth waiting for. Everybody needs to do this TBS.

I went to my dealer and they said it’s Normal to have those slack and wondering steering because I have a 2” Mopar lift and 37” tires, it’s really hard to deal with those guys and giving you all kind off BS, so yeah they turn me down, any advise? Thanks

Jeep dealers are the worst dealer I’ve ever dealt with. I’ve dealt with 3 dealers so far for my JT’s wondering issue and they’re total aholes. They will give any bs just so they don’t have to honor the tsb. Mines complete stock, no mods at all and they still want me to make an appointment to have a special mechanic to drive my truck to determine if I have the issue! Which they’re going to say “it’s a Jeep, so it’s suppose to drive like that”! Total bs... anyways I haven’t had time to take it back to have someone test drive my truck and diagnose if I have the issue.... which I do, I drive the dam thing daily, it wonders! I love the vehicles, I hate the dealers. Seems like 1 out of 10 is ok, the other 9 dealers are total aholes. I really don’t know why more people don’t speak up about this. This is my first Jeep, and I’m appalled at how idiotic Jeep dealer employees act! The worst people I’ve ever met at any dealerships. And like I said, not like I’ve been to all, but of the 5 dealers I’ve been to (when shopping and now for issues), all aholes! The worst of the worst is autonation Jeep in Roseville, Ca!! I will never go there or let anyone I know ever go there!

Take it to a different dealership and tell them fca told you there is a tbs on the part and it like driving a floating bus.thats how my dealer described it

Hopefully they dont deny your Jeep like they did mine because of my suspension and changing of all the steering components. Mainly because of my Steer Smarts trackbar and the Synergy Sector Shaft brace.

@@JLLIFEOFFROAD , unfortunately I was told my Jeep is now flagged per corporate FCA and any dealer will not perform this TSB. They said it is because my Jeep is “Extremely Modified” I have Steersmarts front trackbar, tie rod and drag link, a Synergy Sector Shaft brace and 2.5 RK lift. Not sure how this is heavily modified?? Oh well, guess I just have to deal with it the way it is or sell the Jeep. Or go rent a new Jeep for the weekend and swap the steering boxes!

Look to see what color it is. Black box is good silver or aluminum color is bad

Unfortunately for me, with over 100,000 kms already in my 2018 JL, I am pat the warranty period so to get the steel box would cost me $1200 at the dealer as per quote. I gather that due to the programming of the pump that this is not a diy job.

I put my synergy brace back on and it feels solid as a rack and pinion system. Very responsive.

If you have a 4 door jeep it could be programmed as a 2 door.mine was. Like that and steering was so over correcting you could not drive it on uneven highways.

Just a thought, did you verify that the new box part number matches the TSB part number? I've been hearing about a few that discovered the dealer replaced with the old part number.

Just picked up my 2021 with the new steel box. HUGE dead spot from 11 - 1 o'clock. Poor build quality. The new steel box apparently doesn't always fix the dead spot. Took it into the dealer and they said they couldn't fix it. I'll guess I'll have to go back in and give them a youtube tutorial on how to do their job. Regretting my first Jeep purchase.

I was watching the vid and saw that. I figured if someone needed it bad enough you can Google it and find it in public records. Its also temporary. I am moving eventually.

That's why you don't buy for the 1st couple of years. Let them get all the failures/ problems out of the way. Chrysler is still upgrading the Wrangler from 07 to present time with thicker/ wider axles / engines/ trans. etc. Guinea pigs you are for Chrysler's Gladiator. Also you can't even sleep in the bed. Too short for a truck/ too long for wheeling, you get high centered and the over hang on the bed will definitely piss you off on tight turns and drop offs (if it ever goes off road)
