Way cool. Back in the day we would change oil/filter because of casting sand left over from the block. On my Jeep I hand oil/filter change at 1500 miles; my dealer thought I was nuts!

I have a charger with a 3.6. Changed oil after 4800 miles and I have quite a bit of metal shavings in it. nothing as big as the biggest piece in your filter. At what point is it bad? Because I was terrified when I saw the metal in my filter. My car is supercharged and making at least 500hp for the last 30k. its at 88k.

My 2017 challenger 3.6L 13k miles. Has small shiny silver metal flacks on the oil filter. Not sure if this is normal?

YOU´VE CHANGED AT 100 MILES YOU´D saved the oil pump on chewing all of that to dump it in the filter...

The filter did its job at 100 miles or 1500 miles. The point is there us no bearing material. This is a normal filter and has nothing to do with the pump.

@@c130aviator n my case, I´ve changed at 60 miles and the oil came with several debris that would be chewed bY the OIL pump and scratch the rotors TO PUT IT ALL IN THE FILTER.

I believe once it's made it up the engine, it's well past the pump in the pentastar. The real problem is if it gets in a lifter or a bearing, then it will sit there and ruin that bearing.

@@c130aviator I believe it goes collecting all to the pan, then to the pump, and then to the filter. Better to catch it while in the pan, by draining the oil the sooner you can. Ideally, the most I´d like to go is from dealer to home and do the 1st change. The oil is still good, I´d let it settle a few weeks before putting it back. I´d use two charges of oil to do 4 short interval oil change intervals. The filter change is optional, IMO.
