    A real tricky video would have shown you fixing the trailer on the side of the road . Anybody can fix an axe in their shop. You may not be a real shop teacher you have all your fingers. All my shop teachers we're missing at least one maybe 2. Safety officers / safety supervisors/ safety auditors. are notorious for missing digits.🤣😆🤣😆

    This is the third fuel injection cleaning process that only cleans 4 cylinder engines. I should get one of those kits unless I can find a cheaper way to do this. I wouldn't use Seafoam though.

    "Hindsight is my superpower". That about says it all. At least now you know what components are on the trailer and it is less sketchy than before. I just finished exhaust manifold gaskets on the driver's side of my Sierra. It was the first year for the LS. The 15-minute job only took 4 days. If you go to do this job and someone suggests that it is marginally easier if you remove the wheel/tire and inner fender, believe them. I had 3 out of the 6 bolts that were broken off in the head. I didn't break any but that was a small consolation. Good stuff, keeps me off the streets.

  • @GregWellwood
    @GregWellwood9 сағат бұрын

    True. That axles sketched me out pretty bad. Re: LS - when I built the LQ4 for my '61, I removed all the broken bolts, and replaced them all with ARP exhaust bolts, which either won't break again, or be a nightmare to remove. (grin)

    My last truck was a lowered blue-and-white Squarebody Chevy truck, pulling a matching lowered blue-and-white Squarebody Chevy truck bed trailer, so the truck was pulling a trailer made from the same truck as the truck that was pulling the trailer. 🤔😂took me three try’s to get through this, I’m still not really comfortable with the laptop thing! I realize this is a boosted issue, but in my early life, many of us started with flathead motors! Tuning started with the Small Block Chevy and Ford OHV motors, a Posi diff, gears, a handful of mechanical advance weights and springs, some carb jets, metering needles, cams, a vacuum gauge, timing light, stopwatch and a measured distance! Pings, lighter weights, or heavier springs, idles Ok, road test, adjust. Repeat as many times as necessary to get to where you wanted to be. Oh ya don’t forget the revelation that struck while you were in the shower, or while you were asleep, that gave you something to try the next Friday night! This is probably an over simplification, but those were my recollections! Still have the vacuum gauge and Timing light, but there’s no requirement for them anymore! Thanks for sharing your process!

  • @GregWellwood
    @GregWellwoodКүн бұрын

    I'm old enough to be very good at carb tuning and ignition re-curving. I wanted to specialize in tuning back in the day. Tuning like that is long gone. If you can tune a carb, you can tune EFI. And instead of nailing idle and WOT and hoping everything inbetween works, you get pinpoint precision for each and every operating condition. It really cool, AND you don't have to smell like gasoline. When I teach kiddies fuel systems, I teach carbs first using EFI terms, and then it's easier to teach EFI because we already use the terms.

    I just got the same engine running. Why wouldn't it run in the first video? My engine wouldn't run. I found it had NO valve lash clearance and the valves were being held open. After putting a .005 inch shim under the rocker assembly it now runs fine. Connecting rod bearings were also very tight on mine (cap markes aligned properly), the starter wouldn't turn it over. I had to run a 6mm reamer through the connecting rod bores to obtain proper clearance. Nice engine but some QC tolerance problems.

    As a DIY guy I can attest that going cheap is rarely the best route. You forgot to add the time cost to your total. The financial expenditure plus time would have been a nice trailer with minimal effort. The downside is that would also be less interesting to watch.

    Was it worth it? Well that depends, now you have a trailer that should last fifty years, so maybe, but the fun part is that we all got to ride along, and this may help someone down the road make a better decision! Was chuckling at the cost listing, nowhere did I see anything about how many hours the trailer consumed to get to this point! Have a Great day!

    Engineers can design anything they want anyway they want. My brother-in-laws Chrysler van needed a brake master cylinder. They could have made it so you can unbolt it from under the hood, but Noooooo. They made it so you have to remove the bolts from under the dash an eighth of a turn at a time. C'mon guys? Are you sadistic or just stupid??

    I hated working on PT Cruisers when I owned my shop! I swear almost every repair instructions started with, “drain and remove the radiator.” I used to replace the receiver/dryer every time but after a while (and a few customers complaining about the added cost) I found putting it under vacuum for 1hr it never cased an issue.

    The goal is to be maximum cheap … just skirting the line of being dangerous but not crossing it! I am cheap, but at the same time, I also want to get where I want to go and get home without any delays; especially in the summer heat, in not dry weather, when I am burning daylight, or when I am going to be a long way from home and I don’t want to get stranded! My theory is if it worries me but I can rebuild it, replace it, or generally repair anything that bothers my peace of mind, at home, and for a fraction of the cost that being forced to pay some shop that I know nothing about located in some place I was just traveling through and have never even heard of, I will gladly spend some time and money making those fixes happen before heading out; in my own “controlled environment” and with some time on my side, My “cheapness can be balanced with my peace of mind” which is about as good as life gets; short of just winning the power ball and not needing to worry about anything involving green drawings of dead presidents! Be safe and slow it down while towing out there! Anything can happen at any time and any place when you are pulling something … and those kind of surprises are never the good kind!

    Turning the cans upsidedown puts liquid refrigerant into the system. Upright cans put gas into the system. Many systems say not to put in liquid refrigerant. It helps to pull a vacuum on the system because it allows the refrigerant gas to flow in easier. You are using an alternative refrigerant so in that case I would want to know why they want me to put the can upside down.
