MID-WEEK REVIEW: BestArc MIG145 - We Test It All! (and then I gave it to a student)

Portable MIG/TIG/Stick, really does a good job at 145A, VERY nice TIG arc, and we pushed aluminum through it too!
Given to a Grade 12 student heading into a welding program.

Wow doesn’t begin to describe it. A decade ago, after my welding classes, I wanted a HF Tig machine, but I didn’t want to pay Blue and Red prices, so I bought an AHP 200 machine for around $650. This does nearly everything that does, just without the HF start, and for about 1/3 the price after you get a tig torch. Dang.

Great job! I have the arccaptin MiG 200 . Iv found out welding stainless steel I switched over to try mix and I get no flaking on the back of stainless steel. When I can’t tig stainless on kitchen equipment and I’ve used stainless MiG wire for tig welding in a pinch when I was out of tig rods same for regular steel.

I really liked the ArcCaptain MIG200, good welder. I keep 1/8, 3/32 and 1/16 TIG rod in Steel, Aluminum, and Stainless, and I take from the small MIG spools when I need really thin TIG rod. I usually TIG sheet metal using MIG wire as filler.

Did you try the Tig on aluminum? I’m sure you can probably do somewhere in the .063/ .125 range. Looks like a good unit for the car guy or hobbyist! Thanks for taking the time to demo the unit!

Good review. Looks like a pretty capable little welder. For the price, with the features it has, you can't really go wrong for welding at home.

That Shop Teacher - I live in Canada. A guy an hr away has an Eastwood 140amp Elite Mp140i Multi Process for sale. It’s hardly used and comes with the, mig gun, tig and stick attachments. He only ever used the welder stick welding. The BestArc you reviewed above I can purchase for approx $300cdn, including delivery, but I still need a tig torche. If I could get the Eastwood for 400$, plus the gas on 250km drive, which would you choose? Appreciate your opinion.

Unbelievable how cheap these portable multi-function guys have become! I bought a MIG/flux-core 110v no-name about 3 or 4 years ago for $150 and am convinced to this day it was one of a lot that must've been stolen; similar, bottom-of-the-line welders at the time were no LESS than $250.

how would you go for the home hobbyist who has 220 V and most likely would max out at 3/16 at $230 vs arc captain mig 200 @ $525?

I would always recommend the biggest welder you can afford, you can always turn it down, but you can't turn a smaller welder up. But budget always plays a role. I had a 110V-only MIG for years prior to these, and it did almost everything I ever needed.

Pretty sure you just ordered a narrower Teflon tube and a different set of pinch wheels. At least that is how it is with my older century.
