That is a neat little engine! It even runs! I'm wondering if it could be hooked up to power something, for a cool little shop demo. It seems kind of loud though so maybe that's not practical. It is neat none the less.

You should put that little beauty in an actual rc car! That would be very cool Either way, I subbed😂

I've wanted one of the small radial engines for a ridiculous go cart build. Like a rat rod.👍

Cam in head design looks like the Caterpillar 3406E. Cool little build.

I just got the same engine running. Why wouldn't it run in the first video? My engine wouldn't run. I found it had NO valve lash clearance and the valves were being held open. After putting a .005 inch shim under the rocker assembly it now runs fine. Connecting rod bearings were also very tight on mine (cap markes aligned properly), the starter wouldn't turn it over. I had to run a 6mm reamer through the connecting rod bores to obtain proper clearance. Nice engine but some QC tolerance problems.

So how do you plan on adjusting the valve lash on #2 and why do you feel it needs it? I just bought one in the last week, it had a very nice color assembly manual.

Mine came with no manual. I would have liked a manual. I sanded down the contact of the rockers #2 until I felt a little lash. There was zero play before. There needs to be some play, or the valves aren't closing - I have a lot of unburned fuel coming out of #2 only, not #1.

@@GregWellwood For others building this engine... I have the same engine. Mine had NO clearance on ALL valves and would not start as a result. I shimmed the rocker mounting blocks up .005 inches and then it ran fine. Seems to be a somewhat common problem.

This looks like the same Video from not that long ago, except the last 2 minutes were of the failure of it not running, and this looks that part is edited out and now it runs. I jumped to the part where it is built, and that looks like where the new video starts. Couldn't you just have made an updated video, instead of trying to get everyone that watched it, watch it again....SMH.

It is the same video, updated with running and what you need to do to make it run. I mentioned this in the description. Excitingly, it is impossible to change or add to an already uploaded video on KZread - I wish I could just do that. I also point out in the assembly my error, which I never found in any documentation on how parts need to be aligned to run (different than any "real" engine I have ever done), with an added comment to the manufacturer to "don't do that." I also removed the original video, since its conclusion is no longer valid. I wish I could have merely updated the original video, but that cannot be done. I can delete scenes, but I cannot add scenes or text. Given my options, this is what I did.

@@GregWellwood Geez no, you just make another video with the title "Update: I finally got my small engine running", or something like that, and from their with your new content pointing back to the old for those who missed it. It "seems" more likely you deleted the video because the person who gave you a free motor for your content was displeased, even though that might not be the case.

@john-smith. Toyan/Semto did NOT express any displeasure with the "not running" video. They did offer me another (different) motor to do a video on, but I told them that "unless I can get them running, I don't want to do videos on them." They have not emailed since, and I have not followed up with them. It was simply _I_ did not want to leave a video up that was no longer correct; I don't want to paint a false picture for the handful of people who will only watch that video and not this video and not ever see the "update," and this one points out specifically what you need to make it run.
