From one shop teacher to another I require my students to turn their rotors with every disc brake service, if reusable. We use anti-seize on the hub face and wheel studs in our super rusty environment. Also brake grease on all sliding points, wire brush all rusted contact points, and clean, clean, clean. You hit all these, great video and Merry Christmas to you slightly to the north.

The handy and mechanically skilled will always have challenges keeping up with their own project list. The cobbler's children have no shoes. "I can do it myself!"

I use that same phrase a lot myself. Also: "Don't buy a mechanic's car, the last thing they are going to want to do at the end of the day is work on _their_ car."

Also one of the reasons I got out of wrenching - doing it for money was killing my passion for cars.

Nice brake job on the Infinity (which doesn't seem to have a nickname). It was fortunate that you were able to turn the rotors and save them. If the parking brake shoes are $120.00, I can't imagine what a rotor would be for that car! Merry Christmas!

We had a 2003 Malibu that liked to warp rotors. I really worked hard on trying to figure out the problem and never did. Inconsistent brake pressure? Driver induced? It was my GF's car. I had the misfortune of accidentally letting my ABS run dry when a brake line failed on my car. That was about two winters ago. I fixed it but still cannot get all the air out. Time for a brake job after this Christmas. I bought a torpedo heater and will be replacing back calipers and hoses. Every time I put on the parking brake it leaks brake fluid out the back calipers. lol. Disk brakes, 2008 Lucerne. Oh, Merry Christmas and hope you have a good NY.

Do you teach students to open the bleeder before seating the piston in the bore to expell the dirty fluid rather than pushing it back up towards the anti lock controller?
