Rebuild the engine IN THE CAR

We suffered a head gasket failure, but if you're going to fix it, do more than just the headgasket. (So much more....)

I got a lift a few years ago… not only my knees but my back really appreciate it. Good job. 👍

I was tempted to say "good thing you got a lift because walking across the continent will certainly do your knees and back". :)

I can’t wait to try to do a mild rebuild like that with the motor still in the car. Thank you for sharing. Great video.

Always enjoy your content, and you taught me something to check on my daughter's civic of a similar vintage (EGR in automatic car). And yes.. I sure do wish I had a lift... and a garage to put it in.

Good trick with getting the crank to push the bearings out.

Next Week, Son..."Hey Dad, I think I burnt the rings in my car" Dad..."Why do you think that" Son..."Well, some friends and I put two 100HP shots of Nitrous in it and now it doesn't sound so good" Dad...🤬🤬 Thanks for the video, it brought back some memories, (some of which I could do without)👍

Wow, that was pretty ambitious! Sounds like you kind of were able to find the perfect storm. Only auto parts store for miles around with the main bearings you needed and only machine shop in town open on a weekend and someone there who could mill the head. Nice job! From what I hear about Hondas, it should be good for another 100,000 miles (don't know what that is in kilometers, but a lot).

I have an old Toyota engine I need to either replace or rebuild. My old man knees would require me pull the engine from the car since I don't have a lift and getting up and down isn't as much fun as it used to be. It sounds like a rod bearing has gone out. I'm hoping, if I can pull the engine and get it into my garage, I'll be able to just rebuild the bottom end. If it's all torn up and will need some machine work, I'll just put a used engine in. The car is 24 years old, but I don't want to spend the money for a new one. It's just getting broken in at 325K miles.

Either that Honda has been running for a year, or your clock on the hood cam is off by a year.

How many times do you need to do the redline-decelerate cycle, to seat new rings?
