This is my attempt at joining the wonderful world of BookTube!
My name is Dustin and I love books, particularly fantasy and sci-fi books. I hope to produce regular, high quality, no fluff content filled with book reviews, live reading reactions, Top 10s, and much more.

I know it’s your opinion but how do you not put genesis and Matthew in s tier?
Isaiah is the best major prophet from the Old Testament.
I just got done reading this in small chunks, about 30-50 pages a night before bed. I really enjoyed it, and while it was an easy ready, the content gave me a lot to think about. I'm not a spiritual person, but I enjoyed the message of pursuing your "Personal Legend," and willing to face change and uncertainty for the sake of self improvement. Many times in our lives we choose NOT to do things we dream of because of fear or complacency, but what are we actually giving up when we make this choice?
U got a lot of stuff wrong
"Her mothers lover" fact check please!
I totally forgot about the Kaladin getting captured storyline being in this book! I'm resisting starting a SA reread because there are so many other books I want to read
We need an Rhythm of War summary
I stumbled onto this review after having read the series and looking to see if more were on the horizon. It seems to me that you read through the first few short stories, novellas, books, whatever (attempting Murderbot dialog here), with a preconceived ultimatum of what they should be, instead of what they are. As with quite a few of the other comments I read, I agree that the world building is completely unnecessary to the stories. These novellas are about the mental growth of a non-human, with a distorted understanding of how any world works, that has been used and abused as a tool who is now trying to determine if it really wants to join the rat race that is humanity. The disjointed thought process of Murderbot (which is his self-given name as kind of an inside joke to himself, about himself, and was ultimately supposed to be private, which barely anyone even knows anyway) is to me what makes the character endearing. I truly wish this series could go on and on.
It's been three years
Ty for spoiling
Disagree. I loved these books and can't wait to get the final book of the 2nd Formic War. There was plenty of character growth and Whit O'Toole's death was tragic, as was Mazer Rackam not ever feeling that he had truly been accepted by the MOPS.
I prefer oranges to apples.
it's very overrated. Disposable entertainment like pulp stories of the first half of the 20th century.
Locke & key for creepy, fantasy (little bit), family & horror. Invincible for the best superhero comic in the universe.
Weak attempt at trolling the internet. Murderbot is popular for a reason. You don’t get it. That’s ok.
1:52 ohhhhhh I get why you didn't like this book! that's not what the governor module does. the governor module is essentially a shock collar that keeps murderbot a slave to the Company. murderbot later describes it as "a thing in your head that kills you if you make a mistake." it is a tool of oppression. it has nothing to do with murderbot's humanity or lack thereof. what is significant about it being hacked is that murderbot is able to exercise free will without being shocked or killed
This was perfect!
Just finished it. Wonderful book!
You should stop saying "we", it's your feelings. Did you bother to think about the themes in the stories? All three books you read together are shorter than any one volume from GoT, as others have told you, read the rest. And I don't think you really paid close attention, as the first three books are not identical to one another, with just a different cast - there are differences. Another sign you weren't really paying attention is evident from your (incorrect) description of what the governor does on a secunit. Now, I get it, not to your taste, but 'underrated'? For that, you need more than, "I didn't like it that much".
I just did a search on YT of this series. Why? Because I'm rather bothered that it has not concluded. Yes, I know that Card only helped shape the overall plot and AJ does the real work. I'm certain that the publisher is rather irate at this point... contractual dates have to have been totally ignored. My thoughts: Aaron Johnston did a great job in building this series to a peak. He probably thought that the "heavy lifting" was over and the payoff would be quick and easy. Then COVID happened. I was thinking: FOR SURE, with lockdown, AJ will connect the dots and the final book will come out in short order. Long order. REALLLY LONG ORDER. I'm beyond being annoyed here.
I can't believe it's been four years since today right now it's 2024
327. Points. Julie. 😊🎉❤gryffindor women
Boring and stupid. It might have been tolerable if set in the 14th century, but instead, if I remember correctly (and I might not be), it was set in the 19th century or so and the boy is thinking about magic. I stopped reading it.
Why is Leviticus 20:15 your favorite 💀💀💀
A recommendation from me is "Top 10" by Alan Moore.
Took the words out of my mouth. Totally agree.
Masons
Esther is underrated it’s shows God is behind everything. He’s not even mentioned but he works like today
Don’t worry dude I watched the show for the first time last year my favorite characters are Zuko and iroh I love them both so much especially their relationship 😊❤️
The human characters are supposed to be underdeveloped early on in the series, because Murderbot doesn't care about them. As the series progresses, it starts to care more and more about the humans, and because of this, the series gives more characterization for each of them. The only human Murderbot cares about at all in the first book is Mensah, so she gets characterized as a competent, loyal leader who cares about all the members of her crew, and it dislikes Gurathin so he gets characterized as standoffish and annoying. Then, as the series progresses and Murderbot cares more about the humans, we learn more about them. Ratthi is a friendly, kind, and lighthearted person who sympathizes with Murderbot and tries to help him. Gurathin isn't just a jerk, and is simply a very level-headed and cautious person who has a rivalry with Murderbot. Arada is an extremely optimistic and unconfident but competent leader. Mensah is a caring person who wants the best for the people she cares about, and who has a daughter that's one of my favorite characters in the series. Every book has more characterization for the humans than the previous one, because Murderbot cares more about the humans in every book. The choice to not characterize them in the first book is a deliberate one, because the first book isn't about them. The first book is about Murderbot coming to terms with itself and what it wants, laying the groundwork of its character so that the connections that it builds in later books feel earned.
The left Hand of Guitar
Sanderson portrays addiction so well with Dalinar, I found this book incredibly powerful and found myself rooting for Dalinar. As a person who has dealt with addiction in the past, Sanderson hits it right on the head with Dalinar's blood lust and addiction to the thrill. He wants to be better but is in tremendous conflict with himself. Incredible series
You stopped uploading? Just wondering ...
That's a real horrowshow book. I just read it, and I have watched the movie 5 times
"This is Aang not ahng" Bro, Aang is pronounced as AHNG in my country, so you're saying my country is wrong? The same for Iroh. His name is pronounced as 'eeroh' in my country, yet Avatar fans blame me for pronouncing it wrong... ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS???
I don’t agree with your criticism, the point of the book is that so much is left up to interpretation. You’re not supposed to know who most of the characters are, you’re not supposed to have a concrete grasp on what’s going on. It’s cosmic horror, the point is that so much is left ambiguous and that it reveals very little about itself.
When you see those book blurbs that say "hysterically funny" etc., they are almost always a case of your mileage will vary. I don't equate Jodi Taylor to Douglas Adams, but her St. Mary's stories are full of the kind of English humor that is character and situation based. (She's more like Connie Willis and the Oxford Time Traveling stories than Hitchhiker.) One of the amazing things about a 14+ series is how the story/character arcs don't get retreaded and old. The Time Police series that follows Max's son is also very good. Really highly recommended series!
But Murderbot is lolsoquirky tho /s
Whats the background music? Only other time I've heard it is when I listened to The Wheel Of Time audiobooks on youtube? I really love it and want to know what it is!
You’re missing some of the Old Testament
If you don't wish to read it. Tge audiobook is great on audible. Narrated by Jeremy Irons.
"WHY iS JUDgeS up thERE?"
I love this series, and find myself rereading favorite bits (usually whole novels) frequently. It definitely deserves a wider readership!
Didn't even watch the video, just came to say FU, because it's not even possible to overate this book series
I have been working my way through the St Mary's Chronicles and talking about it on my channel so I'm so glad to have found this video. Jodi, you have quickly become my absolute favourite author ❤
Superman isn't out of touch at all. And he's also not too powerful if u look into it
"Your eyes show the strength of your soul", this qoute from the book alchemy is going to stay with me forever! Also, Loved your review about it. Glad to come across a person who thinks about the book the same way i do. I feel i should subscribe your channel. Regards !
Actualy i think you just hit it on the spot. Even though I am a huge fan of the story’s, I also do not quite see all the deepens and glory. They are short Stories you just enjoy reading, knowing you will not be tortured ofer a lot of books, cause they are just komplett in them selfs, and not that complex. But it gives my “MindTV” food for new stories, and i just need light Aktion right now. Even though I also must say, that with and after “Network effect” the story gets more depth. But thats a little late, if you need depth from the beginning, and sure not worth reading that far for a little bit of depth. But i still love the books, even-though i wouldn’t rate them that high, nore start to recommend them to everyone.
Read American psycho!
I don’t know why, but when I read and picture Dalinar, my mind just shows me Elendil from the Rings of Power show….
