I think the 3rd book is where it really takes off. The new revelations that occur throughout the stories are so creative and satisfying largely due to the flexibility and adaptability of the magic system. Super excited for book 11!!

    Cradle is a standout as one of the best Western Cultivation or "Xianxia" series. If you like this system there is a whole world of literature like this to explore, especially if you are willing to read works that have been translated from Chinese.

    My favorite magic system is probably Intent from Elder Empire which is also by Will Wight as it happens. For Intent basically as you use objects they get better at doing the thing they were designed to do so a coat you wear everyday will eventually be able to keep you the right temperature in any weather, etc. Theres also Readers who can actively use intent to do various things and a lot of other interesting details I wont spoil in case you decide to read the books. Theres six books in EE in total but they come in two book pairs that cover most of the same events but from two different perspectives, that of a ship captain and that of an assassin. The overall theme of the world is kindof lovecraft mixed with pirates of the Caribbean

    The greatest part of Cradle will always be how easy it is to imagine yourself in it, and how it can be expanded on infinitely. You could write a few series in the Harry Potter magic system before the magic gets boring. But 50 writers coule write about different aspects or paths in the cradle system and easily make it unique. Will also has a great ability to go deep into things and have a magical logic. One fact that shows this is how Sword madra is a specialist form of Force madra, how all fire carries some aspect of destruction. Many other writers would ignore these worldbuilding details

    Love this video and that Cradle is getting the love it deserves! If you are looking for the closest comparison I would say Naruto is the closest with how unique each person's power is. Though I agree there are definitely many Dragonball similarities. Yerin and Lindon remind me quite a bit of Vegeta and Goku

    I guess I’m not a very attentive reader. I’m on book 8 and you, in book 2, explained this magic system in a way I can finally understand. It’s one of those things where you can get the gist of it and enjoy the series without understanding completely but I felt like I was missing out on a lot because I didn’t quite know how all of the elements like Aura and Madra related. Thanks!

    Awesome video. I'm definitely a fan of Hard Magic Systems, so really anything by Brandon Sanderson. I just recently started Cradle (currently on Unsouled) and while i'm not fully on board yet, possibly because it's influence that it was recommended to me is anime (Not a fan) doesn't help matters at all. I'll read series with a soft magic system or a blend of the two so long as there's something to latch on to. Since I'm a Plot-driven, Hard Magic System reader, it makes me a very picky reader.

    Cradle is amazing. Currently my favorite series above any other book or series. I can't say much if you're on book 2 (Soulsmith), but it gets better and better. The most current release is Bloodline (book 9), but Reaper (book 10) is dropping soon. Hopefully lol. Anyway, yes the magic system is called "the sacred arts". And it gets wild as characters advance. Enjoy! Edit: iirc there will be at least 12 books in this series.

    As a long time Cradle fan, and just a fan of the author in general, I'll say that if you enjoyed the first couple books, you'll love the rest of the series, it's amazing. He also has another series I'd recommend as well if you're interested :: The Traveller's Gate. Fave magic system in a book or series? Cradle because of it's uniqueness, and then I also enjoy the Dresden Files. It's not that magic has a cost (though most does in some form or another) but it's that it's limited by the casters own innate ability.

    I’m think my favorite is element bending, but allomancy is cool too. I also thought Sanderson’s system in Elantris had good potential but the story didn’t use it that well. Maybe now that he’s all grown up he could do some better things with it.

  • @DragonArmyBooks

    Preface: I don't really want what I'm about to say but the idea is intriguing. Why don't authors remake books? Movies get remade ALL the time. Sanderson taking on Elantris now could make for an extremely good book.

  • @renni9813

    @renni9813

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@DragonArmyBooks there are quite a few reasons. First, usually movies aren't remade by the same director, or even studio. Movies are also more profitable, and since the franchises are usually owned by a bigger company, getting the rights to remake it can be easy and more profitable. I for a lot of authors, it just tisnt worth going through the time and trouble to remake a book, rather than just starting a new series or expanding on the one that would have been rewritten. Of course, for some series there are fan fiction which take anything from the basic premise, to the entire foreground and build off of it the way they would have wanted to see it, but those are lacking quality, and personally I don't like reading thinks that derive from the cannon too mich

    You probably should've started out by explaining the general ways madra can be used (forging, enhancement, etc) and giving examples of the different ways different types of madra manifests its effects. Illusion madra, when used in enhancement, makes your movements hard to read, and when used in forging, can be used to create physical illusions, like a clone.

AND as the story progresses the system becomes even more interesting as
there is actually a deeper system that supports the original system. It's almost a completely different system. Most of greater truth of the universe kind of thing. Which the reader will really get an idea of in Wintersteel and later.
