    Is the hidden sword not a standard endless sword technique?

    I thought about including the Hidden Sword, but I also tried to stay away from spoilers and late-series content where possible. I ended up deciding against including the Hidden Sword because it isn't really discussed until book 8 when we finally learn the name and it's described in as a "oh yeah, we have this technique so we can practice forging for other techniques." Yerin uses it on two occasions that I can remember. It seemed like it's not a real part of the path and more a practice technique or building block for the Final Sword.

    @@chrisreedreadserin is literally rebuked by the winter sage for not mastering the hidden sword. It is a part of the path, Yerin just doesn't like it and isn't good at it. Added with Edit: Also, Hidden sword is the second technique we see Yerin use in the first book. It is most definitely NOT a late series inclusion. It has always been part of the path, and we have always known of it, if not by name.

    @@Altonahk It was definitely used early on. It was used once in Lindon's doorway in Unsouled and a second time in Skysworn when Yerin is jumping out of a destroyed Sky's Mercy. It just seemed odd to include the Hidden Sword when Yerin only uses it twice, likely doesn't have a binding for it, is the sole inheritor of the Path of the Endless Sword, and even the Path's creator deemed it a minor part of his path, used mostly for practicing general forging. That's like saying Eithan should have a Pure Forger technique called "Create Scales" or something LOL... Now I'm sitting here trying to theorycraft a path that's focused around using cycling techniques to improve madra generation and to make Sacred Artists into the most effective printing presses possible haha But to your point, it is a technique and I was trying to be thorough, I should have included it.

    It should have been an integral part of the path. It's main feature isn't being almost undetectable, but leaving sword slashes all around the battlefield gathering or generating sword aura. This gives the Endless Sword many extra sources for resonance in a battle. Yerin just misunderstood.

    One thing a lot of people dont get is there isn't a set list of types of aura and madra. There's as many types of aura as there are types of things. When someone says madra has aspects of dream and light, theyre saying its like dream, and like light. One interpretation of pure madra is rather than being merely unaspected madra, its human madra, much like how sacred beasts and spirits have their own kinds of madra.

    “There are a million Paths in this world, Lindon, but any sage will tell you they can all be reduced to one. Improve yourself.” Cradle is awesome because it's not like there's a "perfect" path. It's just all about pushing yours as far as possible.

    If the Way is produced based on human population, does that mean the Way is basically pure aura?

  • @chrisreedreads

    I like this idea, it could definitely be the answer. My first thought though is that Aura seems to be a power of Iteration 110 and that The Way is powered by something else, something *bigger* or more fundamental, like the concept of Order itself.

    Excellent job! I did a reread of Cradle this year for the final book so while a lot of this was fresh, you did an amazing job distilling the key concepts of Cradle's magic system. Cradle's magic system takes a lot of inspiration from Wuxia but it aesthetically reminds me a lot of Avatar the Last Airbender in being tied with martial arts but has the complexity of Nen from Hunter X Hunter with the different kinds of techniques. And how Will is able to blend other magical concepts, like authority, into the mix was well done. It's why I hope one day Cradle does manage to get an animated series because I truly think in the hands of a good team; the adaptation would give most Shonen battle series a run for its money in terms of characters, story, and world building.

    The Path of the Endless Sword does have a Forger technique. The Hidden Sword. Also, every technique is half a Ruler technique. Other than the name sake, of course.

  • @chrisreedreads

    I replied to olive oile about this, but basically I decided not to include the Hidden Sword since it's both late-series content (which I tried to avoid) and more importantly it's only really used as a practice technique/ building block for other techniques on the path of the Endless Sword. Yerin only uses it twice in the entire series. I doubt she even considers it part of her own path. Yeah, every technique is definitely part Ruler technique. I just found it easier to include the foundational principles of the "part-ruler" feature in the explanation for the enforcer technique than in the striker technique. Where possible I tried to make this a foundational video so I definitely simplified a couple things 😅

    I have a question, how is aura purified back to pure, and what are the aura combination that make pure aura in a new born. Never found an answer for this any where

  • @chrisreedreads

    @chrisreedreads

    Жыл бұрын

    There is no aura combination that makes Pure madra. Pure madra is a result of the absence of all aspected aura i.e. all aura. Newborns have never cycled aura, so they have Pure madra. When children are taught an aura cycling technique they begin to change their madra aspect to match the aspect of the aura they are cycling. Lindon still has Pure madra since the Wei Clan deemed him Unsouled and therefore unfit to learn the signature aura cycling technique of the Path of the White Fox that would have helped him harvest aura of Light and Dreams. A few in-book explanations of this are in Soulsmith when Fisher Gesha describes Lindon's advantages in making scales due to Pure madra being "clean" madra, "It looks like your madra. It’s clean, it’s pure. You see? Anyone can use pure madra... For anybody on a Path, cycling pure madra is like adding water to wine. You add a little, and there’s more wine, you see? Doesn’t affect the flavor much. Add too much, and it’s nothing but watery." This conversation is happening when Gesha is teaching Lindon about the scale mining operation in the Transcendent Ruins, "All a ‘miner’ has to do is go where the aura is thick, funnel madra into the handles, and the script does the rest. A trained dog could do it. When it purifies enough aura, it comes out the other end...as a scale. You see? Scales come out at the bottom." Scripts are modeled after cycling techniques, both can be used to purify the aspects out of the aura to create pure madra scales. Or in the case of the original user of the Empty Palm, to cycle the aspect out of a madra in order to use pure madra in a technique. It's a spirit enforcer technique. Another example is in Skysworn when Gesha is talking about the remnant arm from the Path of Shifting Skies, "It was an interesting blend of cloud, wind, and water madra, but I found it especially intriguing when I found that it was also extremely close to pure. It was only barely tinged with other aspects of madra, as though the artist who left it had cycled aura for no more than a month" This principle is taught again in Wintersteel when Lindon begins to use the cleansing aspect of Little Blue's Pure madra to develop new techniques.
