The Sword of Kaigen | Book Review

Ойын-сауық

I'm late to the party, but now I've finally read M. L. Wang's self-published novel, The Sword of Kaigen. Is it really as good as everyone says it is!?

I'm halfway through this book and I can't put it down! It's so action-packed and the characters are amazing. Yes, the elements bending is not new, but it's so well done. I may finish it today because honestly I can't stop reading it.

Chapter 17 had probably one of the most well written scenes I've ever experienced. I read it back in early July and it still is in my mind

Great review. The thing with the names would likely drive me nuts. I like when there's a glossary to help but I also kinda dislike when I need to use it. Still sounds like a great read. Great video

I enjoy a bit of world building but when I need a glossary, two maps, a genealogy, and additional resources, it just all becomes too much for me to keep track of!

the beginning really dragged for me but when shit starts to go down... oh man. i loved the extended battle and the aftermath. by the end i was in love with those characters, misaki, mamoru, setsuko, even takeru. the structure and the pacing in the last third of the book were a bit odd but it felt fresh, like nothing i'd ever read before. it was like the story ended bit by bit instead of all at once

You're not the only one! I mean, I definitely didn't. But I'm sure others did!

I really liked following Mamoru! I didn't like Misaki's backstory and didn't jive well with the writing/execution of the 2nd half so it ended up being only an okay book for me - I'll need to reread it at some point

I think I might have enjoyed reading mother over son, but both were great!

Can you do the ender's shadow series?

Certainly plan to. I'm currently rereading the entire Ender Saga so I should be getting to Shadow soon!
