The Lost Metal | Book Review (Spoiler-free)
Ойын-сауық
Brandon Sanderson has done it again with his newest release and final entry in Era 2 of the Mistborn series. Wax and Wayne are back to their gunslinging antics and I'm here to talk about it. Surprised? Me too.

Well, isn't this just the best surprise ever!? I am thrilled to see you back on here! And what a banger of a review to make your comeback with, I loved hearing your thoughts! I had every intention of rereading era 1 and 2 in prep for this release, but it just didn't end up happening... now I am feeling the fomo though and I think a bingeread is bound to happen soon, haha. Super exciting to hear that you think Sanderson stuck the landing, I can't wait to read this one myself! Great review 🤩

You definitely don't HAVE to reread Era 1 to get Era 2, but if it's been a while since you've last read the other books in the Wax & Wayne series, it might be worth revisiting before reading the finale!

@@DragonArmyBooks That's reassuring to hear... though I think my memory has failed me to the point that a reread is obligatory, lmao. Not even complaining though, era 1 and era 2 are both great entertainment!!
Glad that you are back😁

He's (kinda) back, bois and grils! So glad to hear Sanderson stuck the landing on this. I'm sure that's no surprise to lots of folks, I've heard mixed reviews about Era 2 so I'm glad to hear it finished strong! I know you said this is spoiler free, but as someone who is only about 60% through The Hero of Ages, this revealed some info that I don't know about just yet. I'm not considering that spoilers though, it's just made me even more hyped to finish Era 1!

I don’t understand the reviews for era 2. It’s fantastic. Too often reviews are improperly done. Those reviews should be forgotten. If someone is negatively reviewing the material because they think the author should have written a different scope of story, that is not actually a review of the story. The story is really well done and is exciting. It happens to be smaller in scope than era 1. Brandon can write whatever he likes. In my opinion, the writing of era 2 is higher quality and the characterizations are more pronounced.

I think the mixed reviews come from people wanting Mistborn Era 1 again and this isn't that. I do think that Era 2 is enough of an homage though.

@@DragonArmyBooks You’re dead on. “Getting hopes up” as a reader for your own ideas of what should happen next is a disappointing way to be a fan. That attitude continually sets the reader up for disappointment.

Honestly I didn't love it. It's a Sanderson book, so at the end of the day it's going to be better than what most authors are doing, but it's my least favorite of the era 2 books and only Well Of Ascension stops it from being my least favorite Mistborn book. What I liked about the book is how Cosmere aware it is, I loved every moment of the book where Cosmere crossover stuff was happening. However, I feel like the main plot was extremely reliant on a character making a lot of mistakes that that particular character should not have made. Several major plot elements could only happen because of this character who should know better acting stupid. It's a fine book, overall I'd give it a 7/10 in relation to all other books, but by Sanderson standards it's more like a 5/10 and I think it's my 3rd least favorite Cosmere book overall, edging out WoA and Elantris.

@@DragonArmyBooks It’s all good, I liked your video! I just didn’t want to hear about all the Cosmere references, different planets and different magic systems being present. Is that really on the back of the book?
@DragonArmyBooks
Жыл бұрын
You're right. It doesn't say that on the book cover. I was attempting to provide more of a friendly warning so that readers didn't get into the book and find themselves lost without any Cosmere knowledge.
