    She was a very wild kitty beauty. Loved to drink daily, smoke 3 packs cigarettes a day. Her neighbour said they always heard yelling and screaming coming from her house and would the cops lol.

    All three are equally terrible! It was a good idea to edit this out of the film. Natalie may be loud, but Roz is really awful. Natalie sounded good on the rest of the soundtrack, though.

    Ava Gardner was so appreciated for her beauty that people didn’t give enough attention to the roles she chose that were not the usual ingénue actress roles. She was before her time and took risks that imho made her miles above a lot of other actresses. Her acting skills were likewise amazing.

    If you watch Julie Andrews perform Wouldn't it be Loverly, the acting is not even close. Hepburn is miles beyond in the acting department. Vocals can be fixed, but the acting can't.

  • @kuklafranandollie
    @kuklafranandollie17 күн бұрын

    The reverse is true. Julie had a long and distinguished career as an actor. That’s something you can learn, as many have. But if you can’t sing, you can’t sing. Both Audrey and Natalie Wood tried to sing for years - neither could do it at the level needed for a score like MFL.

    I have always loved this movie, Great performances by Natalie Wood, Tony Curtis, the great Jack Lemmon, and of course Peter Falk and Keenan Wynn. All the five top leads were above and beyond great, and of course direction by Blake Edwards. A forgotten masterpiece

    great emotional interpretation but there were a lot of unsustained notes and swallowed consonants. compare this with peggy lee's version or the version on the movie. it's not easy to get the diaphragm in action; it takes time and practice.

    How did dubbing Warner Oland on "The Jazz Singer" work? Did Joseph Diskay sing off screen? A quick response would be amazing, thank you!

  • @lostvocals8
    @lostvocals827 күн бұрын

    I don't know for a fact, but since it was so early in sound recording, the likely answer is that Diskay was offscreen during filming. That certainly would be the simplest way to do it.

    Debbie's voice isn't terrible, it's just not very polished for this song. If it was transposed a bit higher, I think she could've had it. She's only weak in the lower part of her voice.

    This is not the complete recording with Judy Garland, Ray Bolger and Chorus and since the number was never filmed the comparison is not fair! This musical number would have been perfect for Judy Garland to sing in her portrayal of Jane in the1950 MGM musical movie Summer Stock or her portrayal of Hannah Brown while Hannah was the singing chorus girl before Don Hewes portrayed by Fred Astaire picked her to be his new dancing partner in the 1948 MGM Classic Musical Movie Easter Parade. I love The Harvey Girls' Recording!

    She’s not perfect, but there are parts were she gets the authentic/vulnerability of the character perfectly. However, when you’re required to be a “Judy garland” type of singer…Natalie doesn’t have the vocal chops. I’ll give Natalie credit for another performance…”The Sweetheart Tree” her vocals should’ve been used! A masterpiece!

    If ALL of the vocal in this is truly and only Natalies voice, then she really nails it toward the end where she's belting it out. It sounds as good as Jackie Ward at that point. Yes, when she's in the quieter moments it's a little off key and not solidly sustained, but with a little work I think she could have gotten it all.

  • @lostvocals8
    @lostvocals8Ай бұрын

    @jamesclarke2207 This is so frustrating - this is NOT all Natalie's voice. I carefully labeled which sections were sung by Natalie and which were sung by Jackie. Did you not see the words "Natalie" and "Jackie" at the bottom of the screen? Do I need to make it clearer somehow?

    Judy Garland would have made Annie Get Your Gun a classic but she was too ill to complete. I can see her as Mama Rose BUT not like Liza Minnelli! I was always surprised Liza never did the role on Broadway. All the lesser performers did it that I won't mention BUT Tyne Daly was very good in her take..... Most of the rest mediocre!
