The Sweetheart Tree - Natalie Wood's own voice - The Great Race 1965
Фильм және анимация
At first I thought this sounded too good to be Natalie, but once I matched it to the image I realized it is her. She sounds much better than in her earlier films!
As in "West Side Story", it appears that Natalie filmed this scene to her own track - but her voice was later replaced by Jackie Ward.

I remember seeing this at the Town and Country Drive In in 1965 in Abilene Texas. I was seven years old and fell head over heels in love with Natalie Woods.
I've heard Jackie Ward's version of the Sweetheart Tree song so often that it difficult to imagine another singer's voice. However, if they had used Natalie Wood's song instead I know everyone would enjoy it just as much, as I do. I'm very happy that her version was later released and posted online so we can enjoy it as well.
The best version. Such beautiful words and presentation. Produces instant tears. What a cherished talent.
I love this version with Natalie's own vocals the best. It's so, so beautiful.
I have always loved this movie, Great performances by Natalie Wood, Tony Curtis, the great Jack Lemmon, and of course Peter Falk and Keenan Wynn. All the five top leads were above and beyond great, and of course direction by Blake Edwards. A forgotten masterpiece
She sanged this song beautifully. I don't know why they didn't use it.

They did. I think they used a mix of Natalie Wood and Jackie Ward's voices mixed together.

@@happierabroad No, they didn't blend her voice with Jackie Ward, as seen here elsewhere on You Tube - HOWEVER that is what they SHOULD have done - and actually, Natalie's voice is nice enough here that really, while not vocally perfect on every single note, they could have used it, just once to make Natalie happy since she enjoyed singing. She does a heartfelt natural rendition on the song and she is singing softly which worked best for her.
Heavenly music
As sweet and cute as she was
Natalie also sang a song in Penelope(1966) and she did a beautiful job singing a song in The Affair(1973)
Awh❤❤❤
Beautifully sung!
Heartfull
Fantastic!
Its wonderful and so lovely. Today no one would ever replace it. Thank you so much for sharing
THE GREAT RACE: GREAT MOVIE FANTASTIC. NATALIE WOOD ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE + A BEAUTIFUL LADY!!! TQ FOR POSTING. ❤️❤️❤️
LOVE!
Perfect!
That was actually very nice. I wasn't expecting to like it, after hearing Natalie's own voice on "Tonight" from West Side, but this is actually lovely and the style suits her. Maybe they could have just tweaked one or two notes. Still, I have no complaints on the final version- Jackie Ward's dub is stunning

@@lostvocals8 I'd ask you to do the same for part 1 of "You're Gonna Hear From Me", but unfortunately her best parts in that were technically pretty shaky- her emotions were just soo incredible though. I saw it for the first time the other night (same night I commented on this- haha!) and lost count how many times I've watched it since. Chills every time!! Thank you for all that you post
She sang beatiful. Why on earth was she dubbed .

Especially on a film that was already way over budget
Hollywood rarely knew when they had a diamond in that era.
Natalie's version is Natalie -- and the character. Blake, you made a mistake. Why allow Audrey to sing "Moon River" and then go and dub Natalie? PS. Otherwise, I always loved your work, Blake.
That was gogeous
Well the movie is a fantasy, and to that end, I vote for the more beautiful rendition by Jackie Ward. But Natalie is not bad here.
Are you sure it isn't Marnie Nixon?

Yes. She was dubbed by Jackie Ward, not Marni. But this is her own voice.
Medusa hair!
Henry mancini was a genius
Nice version, but she’s clearly an amateur singer. Probably a wise choice to dub in a professional singer.

But they could have easily done this. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpmbzNamqaiuqdo.html
