This is lovely. She can't sing well, but it's charming and in character - fits better for Gigi's character than Betty Wand. It's so short I really don't think the audience would have thrown things at the screen if MGM had allowed Leslie to sing it.

I like this-she for one actually sounds her age and feelings here!

The only reason Leslie Caron was dubbed was because MGM preferred "polished" singing voices. Betty Wand sang the song very well, but Leslie Caron's version has the timidness and hesitancy that Gigi is feeling at this moment in the story.

@Laura Streeter Not necessarily. There are many times that a role requires a character voice rather than a more polished singing voice. It very much depends on the role, the story, and the feel that director/producers are going for.

I have just been reading Leslie Caron's 2009 memoir, "Thank Heaven," and was shocked to learn that the voice I've been listening to for 60 years in "Gigi" was not hers. She was apparently shocked as well when Andre Previn told her during post-production that she was being dubbed. In searching the web for an original version, which Ms. Caron says appears on a DVD release (apparently as a special feature, not restored to the actual film), I came across this "Lost Voices" site. It's wonderful that this has been done for her three songs and is available to the public. I hope Ms. Caron is aware of this and has been able to view these clips. They're wonderful, and after watching two or three times, getting used to the change, they seem absolutely perfect for her character.

I went to see her at a book signing and gave her a DVD with all my clips restoring her voice. They have never been released on any commercial DVD.

This isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Boy that cat must be seriously high.

Betty Wad sings it beautifully and catches Leslie's way of doing it without the excruciating voice of Leslie with this particularly difficult song as it needs an expert.

It's remarkable what they can do with a dead cat!

Actually she's pretty good

Yeah hopefully the cat recovered from the drugs after his/her filming was completed. I'm hoping he/she was just given something like gabapentin which would calm him/her down but not be otherwise harmful 🤔 Nowadays I like to think this would be much less likely to happen because the "perfect" cat could be made or enhanced with CGI &/or animatronics as needed, unless a director is more open-minded & willing to work with a different cat who is more compatible with working with his/her human castmates in a movie which would perhaps make the need for electronic enhancements/replacements less necessary😸
