Hella Basque is all about the Basque Country and its diaspora.
My name is Anne-Marie, and I hope this channel helps you learn more about Basque culture. I mostly focus on topics of interest to the Basque American community, including sharing my journey to learn Euskara, the Basque language, and discussions with my Basque immigrant father.
Hella Basque is your home for all things Basque online.

In a very thin way. Euskara has Austronesian connection combined with Latin. Gabon good day? Aga is day and bon is Bueno or good!

Why do you have a ring on your snout like a domesticated hog??
Beitia is popular in Bilbao and in the region east.
Also. My second lastname is Araya (my mother's lastname and my grandfather's too). Seems to have originated in Bizkaia (VIzcaya in Spanish) and then went to Caceres.
There are lots of people with Basque first or second lastnames (we use two lastnames). I guess there was a pretty big Basque immigration here.
Aww! I love how laidback, sweet and Jolly he is. I’m glad he chose to come to America. Continued blessings! 😊
I’m 26% Spain with Indigenous blood coming from Puerto Rico and Portugal. I did notice the 4% Basque and 3% France on there as well in my DNA so now my curiosity has me watching videos on the listed countries from my DNA results. As for the RH Negative blood I remember being given an injection before giving birth to my daughter and then again with my son during the 90’s. I never did understood why it was important to have the injections. I think I tried to ask about the RH Negative blood. I can’t remember what the answer was. Maybe I’ll look that up too what it actually is.
Eugene, on egin! LOL LOL LOL
I definitely had versions of several of these names in the ole family tree.

In WW1 many companies in the Basque area were making pistols that were known by a generic name of Ruby. Several companies had names that were on this list.
Many Philippinos also carry Basques names besides Spanish surnames...inherited from forefathers that had been in their country during the 350 years of occupation. One is of a friend of mine from the town of Lucena City, Luzon Philippines : Ed (Eduardo) Zuniga
Basque last names are often composites.
That means you guys are very inbred
I am rh neg group B blood with no antibodies ❤
I have a hard time respecting anyone with a cow’s ring in their nose…
Todos esos apellidos los conozco de mi ciudad, Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. Y mi apellido también es vasco, pero un poco menos común: Pagalday, tengo entendido que era de la parte francesa.
One might really shorten the introduction.
My grandfathers surname is Yrure and sometimes its spelled Irure and also we were told that it came from the region of Villadolid. Would you know where i could look this up in the net. Thanks
Took to long to get up the list. I didn’t watch but I commented lol
Hi, im from Argentina and a couple years ago, while researching my genealogy i discovered a long line of Basques in my fathers side to add to the French Basques on my mothers side. Some surnames are Urrutia, Zaldúa, Minteguiaga, Aranguren, Beldarrain, Irazu, Irala. There is a huge Basque community in Argentina, they even founded towns like Berazategui, Jáuregui, Uribelarrea, Gándara and we had a president of Basque origin: Hipólito Yrigoyen. Take care
There's a few very popular names missing in your list. My aunt Begoña would have had something to say. Izaskun is a sister of Amaya and Estíbaliz Uranga and all three sang in the most famous basque group ever (Mocedades ) whose hit song "Eres tú" I'm pretty sure you're familiar with. When the band went their separate ways Estíbaliz formed a duo with her husband and under the name Sergio y Estíbaliz had a few big hits, like " Búscame" or "Volverás." Aranzazu or short Arancha is one of the top Basque names too and was popularized by Arancha Sanchez-Vicario the best Spanish female professional tennis player Spain has ever produced. On a different subject I live in LA too and when traveling north I have often stopped at one of 3 or 4 great Basque restaurants in Bakersfield about 100 miles north of here. The was a special visa category for Basque shepherds and many immigrated into that area. They're excellent!!!
OMG, get on with it…Jeez!
