Wood chopping is a very Australian sport also. We have it at all of our rural shows. I have many times at Wauchope Show and Canberra Show and The Royal Oestre Show in Sydney sat and watched the skill of people chopping horizontal logs mere centimetres from their toes and also chopping holes in vertical logs for a plank to slot in to stand on to put in another and so on to the top where they chop the top off, come down a level and chop the top off etc in a mad race to be first.
Background noise is a pity as the ax cutting the air and the the log is one of the best sounds ever.
I plan on visitimg Basque communities in Nevada a few months from now when I move to Vegas. So looking forward to it!

Never heard of this sport before. But it seems fascinating.
