I Went to a Basque Boarding School and Here's What Happened

This summer I spent 4 weeks at 2 different Basque language boarding schools trying to improve my beginner's Basque. This has been a dream of mine for many years, and I'm so happy I can tell you all about my journey. In this video I'm sharing with you my thoughts on the experience after my first full week of completely Basque immersion.
After a lifetime of listening to my family speak Euskara, the Basque language, I'm embarking on a journey to learn it myself. Subscribe and follow along as I attempt to learn this ancient and mysterious language.

I could only imagine how difficult it would be to learn the Basque language in general, it is such a unique language with no other similar languages in existence. I admire the Basque people so much for maintaining their unique culture.

Lazkao? That's really close from my hometown, Idiazabal. It's a shame you got there during Covid times, Thursday evenings used to be really eventful over there. I teach Basque and at an intermediate level (where I guess you're at after your Euskaltegi time) the ones that improve most are the those who listen to radio every day. I remember a guy who commuted from Bilbao to Beasain and back every day and always listened to Euskadi Irratia while driving. His improvement over a few months was spectacular.

Do you have a video explaining basic grammar and sentence structure. I'd love to know the logic of this language :)

Thanks so much for this! I have wanted to go to Bilbao, Vitoria, and the area for years! I want to go there to look up my family genealogy (my grandmother was from Bibao). In your opinion, do you think it is doable for doing this immersion boarding school, and then traveling to those other areas for genealogy in a month?

Are the living quarters gender segregated? If so, do you know if they would have an issue with trans people such as myself?

Like I said, I had a solo room (as did several other people in my program), so I'm not really sure how they do room assignments in non-COVID times. Think that would be a good question to ask the school directly.
