This is so interesting, I didn't even realise how similar those first two books are! I read the poison study series first and gave up on it on book 5. I loved the first book so much, but I just didn't care for the story after that one. I read throne of glass a few months after that and loved the series.

So the Three Body Problem kinda sucks imo. It's basically a giant, boring prologue to what the story actually is. I would highly suggest giving book two a try which is way more engaging and interesting. For reference, I gave TBP two stars, waited like four years before continuing, and then gave the next two 4.5 stars.

I have read the first Riftwar trilogy and not worth it IMO : cliché traditional fantasy, the worst named protagonist, and with terrible women representation (one of the female character repeated only line in the trilogy is "yes my husband"). I do plan to read the empire trilogy that was cowritten with janny wurst however : heard amazing things about it, especially about the female protagonist.
