This is my favorite Martina/Hingis match. Martina really showcased her all court strengths here and her ability to take the ball early and run her opponent all over the court. She was also hitting through her shots and getting nice depth to keep Serena from dominating. Such an entertaining match!

This is what happens when you are hellbent on blasting Martina Hingis off the court. In a way, a very naive and immature performance by Venus. At one point the German commentator said, "to play good tennis you have to use your head, too!". Venus wanted to simply overwhelm Martina, went for broke on every shot .. and paid dearly for it.

I love how the highlights are always edited so it looks like a Williams is winning. I think this clip had about 6-1 Venus winning points and she got blown off the court.

Seles lost so many close matches against Hingis, as Hingis knew exactly Monica's witness ....her fitness. If ahe was fitter, she would have had a better record over her.

This was back when Martina was still so much more confident on the forehand. She hit it deeper, harder and took it earlier than when she tried to come back twice later in her career. She also had a bit more punch on her first serve back then as well. It was well placed. When she was hitting the forehand early back then while absorbing pace along with changing directions on both sides and coming forward, she was simply a genius.

When Venus started learning how to place the balls away from Hingis, that was when she was winning. This was a learning time for venus. 1999. 2000 onwards when venus is on, she was unbeatable.

One of the great things about Seles is I don’t think she ever ‘lost’ a match - if she didn’t win, it’s cos she was beaten, it she never gave an inch, and never beat herself. She was touch as nails.

This was the last of Hingis at her best, she came close again at US open 00, some flashes during aussie seasons 01, and especially 02, but Capriati was too strong for her in the end.

Even though Graf is getting older and older. It's getting to the end of his career. It's still so hard for Hingis to beat Graf. They have faced each other nine times in their careers. Graf won 7 times. And came back after Graf's 97 break. They played 3 games. Graf won twice. In one, Hingis was awarded a set 6-0. On top of that, the two of them have a Grand Slam record against each other, and Hingis has never beaten Graf. Grafy always beats Hingis in tennis grand slams.

Best post stabbing Seles in the first set, good aggressive defense to go with searing attacking shots and serves. Pity she couldn’t hold out :(

I think Serena was pretty darn hot here. She certainly didn’t age well at all. Her game used to be so pretty too, but that also got painfully ugly in her later years.
