Much prefer this tennis to what is played today.

I really started getting into watching and enjoying tennis last year. I decided to take a look at some of the older games and DAMN! Today's female tennis is a joke compared to what those women were doing back then. GREAT tennis! Maybe it's because of my ignorance but I can see a clear difference between the players of today and the players of the past. Male tennis on the other hand seems to have become more physical and competitive, Nadal,Djokovic, Federer are prime examples.

This is what women's tennis is about. The little girls now should be ashamed of themselves.

i hope that didn't come off as an accusation. the uploader generally clips the unforced errors out so it falsely looks like the most offensive player played immaculately well, hit winners from all over the place, made no unforced errors, and the other one just stood there watching. they don't do justice to defensive players like martina and radwanksa.

...Venus literally tried to kill her in this match. But when you look at stuff like this, it really shows you how the players of today have evolved. MOST courts in the days of old were fast...as hell. Today, some hardcourts are slower; so is grass...the US Open tends to play slow sometimes. So what makes people think the old generations can penetrate today's courts as easily? They changed the courts/balls because they were sick of people blasting the ball through them...not enough rallies!

I don't necessarily agree that this is such a bad time for women's tennis. Look at what Serena just achieved in the past month - winning Wimbledon singles and doubles, the Olympic gold in singles and doubles.... on top of that, crushing Sharapova in the Olympics final.... There is inconsistency but I don't think it's so bad.

That's because she's Venus...LOL Today's tennis is all about first-strike...alot of the players that you think can't be more patient and play "prettier" tennis just don't because they see what's at the top of the rankings. Radwanska is the exception...and she plays that way because she has no choice, AND even she had to try and strike earlier in points to beat better players...and it's working more often than not, right?
