Ppl forget how consistent Hingis. From 1997 AO to 2000 AO, she was in the finals of 10 out of 13 GS. And was in 6 consecutive AO finals.

Always loved the way Davenport struck the ball cleanly and with that distinctive sound it made coming off her racquet. Thanks.

Such a gratifying moment for Davenport... she put in so much work to improve her fitness and movement - its so fitting she chased down that drop shot for a winner on match point. Best ballstriking the womens game has ever seen, i could watch her all day long....i also think around this time was when i think a lot of people starting wondering if Hingis was going to be continuously overpowered by the big hitters like Lindsay and Williams sisters in the slams... she got pushed around the court in this match too much to work her magic. And the second serve clearly was a liability, as it would continue to be...

I really loved watching Davenport play. For being so tall she really had such a spirited all ball chase down game!!

I'm so very happy for Lindsay because she's always been class act with Martina such good friends, even on Lindsay birthday Martina went over during break to sit with her. Davenport plays so well, smart power player. But oh do I wish that Hingis won this!

Great match from Davenport, always a great ball-striker, also a great rivalry between these two.

The unassuming laid-back kid from California who they said was too slow and unathletic wins her first slam. Great moment.

Kept running into Venus unfortunately. Otherwise she would have 2 more Wimbledons, (possibly, had she played Sharapova instead she might have lost anyway. She had a terrible record against Sharapova.) and another U.S. Open.

Wonderful match by Davenport, Hingis back then was pretty aggressive though compared to the last years of her career. The greates weakness was the serve but she was able to dictate some rallies even against Davenport and Williams back then.

Overpowered? Ive always hated this argument. Hingis has a WINNING record against Davenport, Venus, Capriati, Seles, and Serena has only 1 more win on her. She wasn't over powered, matches were ALWAYS competitive.

@@alexalvarez6809 She has a horrendous head to head against Graf and even in late 98-99 when Graf was clearly past her prime and HIngis at her peak Graf still won most of their matches. Seles was big as an elephant when she played Hingis. Serena has only 1 more win, but Hingis retired only when Serena was starting to really come into her prime/peak, and if she continued playing it would get a ton worse. And she does not have a winning record vs Davenport, that is false.

Maybe only very slightly overrated at the time. Took out Serena and Venus back to back a few years after this tournament then retired. She could mix it up no doubt but at times she got overpowered pure and simple

@@richardsimplon8772 I don't approve of doubles mixed with singles titles as reference to being great. Many choose not to play many doubles, if any, because they simply want and have a life. I stay with Steffi's 22 slams and her many other titles.
