Lindsay was free flowing here, hitting the ball beautifully. Some of the best tennis I've ever seen from her.

I could watch Lindsay playing and hitting the ball like this 24/7. Such a pleasure to the ears that clear sound. One of the best matches ever of Lindsay

As good as Serena Williams can serve, Lindsay Davenport wasn't far behind. This was one of the best matches I've seen Lindsay play. It was a joy. When she's on, there's such a beauty to watching and hearing her strike the ball. The sound off her racquet is music to the tennis lover's ears! I loved watching her demolish Hingis here. Martina can fight her way back against anyone, so it was no surprise that it got tight at the end. But Davenport was superior. These two had some great matches against each other!

it's not just 'hitting'... Davenport was moving particularly well (for me, she was at her absolute best 1999 - 2001), getting into position to counterattack (see the point at 0.30) and (yes) defend. I also remember Davenport closing the down the court at almost every single opportunity, finishing a lot of points well inside the service line, moving beautifully at / around the net. Hingis was just overwhelmed. 8 points won at the net (in nineteen minutes), compared to 0 for Hingis...

Some good movement from Davenport here....although she got tight in the end, great way to close it out.

Hingis had the ability to hit her serve at up to 110mph. She should have used that gun more.

This was when Hingis was starting to get blown off the court. Between Davenport, Venus, Serena, and Capriati it was hard after this point for her to break through all of that power hitting.

Serena actually started beating Davenport in 1998. That's a totally different matchup for her altogether.

Davenport would have probably beaten even the best Hingis that day but it would have been a tight match. Awful match played by Hingis at least up to 16 15 nothing on her shot neither depth nor pace, Davenport hardly had to move a foot. Two great champions anyway

Martina Hingis was certainly not the greatest of all time but a good champion. Hingis= great prodigy. However, she didn't have the right mentality played for celebrity and hated being an athlete. She did nothing to develop the athletic gifts with whic she was blessed. She was a cerebral player nothing wrong with that. But that she lost her belief that she could solve top power players. Believing the hype. I guess she lost her way. Kournikova was bad for her career. Set a lot of records.
