It’s really amazing to see Hingis play against power hitters like the Williams sisters and Lindsay Davenport and even on most occassions win against them, Davenport and other players were already transitioning to power tennis while Hingis was stuck to the Evert-Goolagong era style of playing tennis and yet her superb intelligence on court was able to win her a string of slams both on singles and doubles.

Davenport's wingspan is amazing. The gal can cover a lot of court.

Hingis played really well during this indoor season... winning YEC 2000 too vs Seles in the final.

Another great match between this amazing rivalry, congrats to Hingis.

Hingis, like Radwanska, is a finesse player. Hingis, unlike Radwanska, hits a lot more winners. She's a much more offensive minded player.

It's the weak forehand. I notice that players without a strong forehand tend to be defensive and stay further behind the baseline during rallies. Could only imagine what Hingis was capable of doing with a strong forehand.

Jo Nathan you are 100% correct. Despite all her technical brilliance, Hingis was always reluctant to hit a clean, hard forehand. Maybe she just couldn’t do it. She had every shot but a forehand drive.

@@JamesFrew1 Yup. It could get quite frustrating watching her at times. She could hit a pretty deceptive inside out forehand but even that tended to look a bit too spinny and not totally clean.

@sultanabran1 regarding the backhand slice, whenever henin was pulled out wide in a defensive position she would negate the offence by using the backhand slice , driving it low . very hard to win a hit a winner with that spin. when hingis was pulled wide she rarely used a slice but would dink the ball up in the air waiting for it to be pounced on . thats the difference.

So nice to see some fight from Smartee... and nice embrace at the end

Very odd from this commentator as he was usually very respectful.

God this is awesome watching Hingis at her best. I wish she had a bit more power to her game, she would have given the Williams a good run for their money!

She did give the Williamses a good run for their money. She leads Venus 11-10 and trails Serena 6-7, which makes for an even score.

@olaraay Henin proved that if you were short and with a single handed backhand, you could still kick everyone's arse. She hit topspin backhand a lot more than she did slice.

henins slice was not weak you could not hit a winner off it - at her best she gave serena huge problems0 she negated her power with that slice look at the 1st point, a floaty ball from hingis gets munched from davnport- thats whu davenport struggled against henin

if only hingis was faster then she would have the gme to match davenport even if she didnt have power henin proved that with speed and a backhand slice - davneport cud be beaten
