Steffi Graf still runs fast and moves well in the 5th set. Her endurance and athleticism is really amazing. Her forehand and backhand slice are classic.

I love her slice backhand. I honestly think constantly having to bend down low and dig up Steffi's slice backhands made Hingis cramp in this match.

Even though Graf is getting older and older. It's getting to the end of his career. It's still so hard for Hingis to beat Graf. They have faced each other nine times in their careers. Graf won 7 times. And came back after Graf's 97 break. They played 3 games. Graf won twice. In one, Hingis was awarded a set 6-0. On top of that, the two of them have a Grand Slam record against each other, and Hingis has never beaten Graf. Grafy always beats Hingis in tennis grand slams.

it's hard to find players like them nowadays. many eager to play emotionally rather than skills. they can beat serena if they play smart and mentally strong😄😄

Hingis was 15 here? and cramping too! Her mental game and shot selection and execution are brilliant already at such a young age. Wonderful, unique, and interesting game which has made her millions of fans around the world!

Hingis is a mechanical player that has sometimes great backhand shots at hard angles and showed smartness when she placed such drop shots. She knows very well that she can never beat Graf's forehands and cannot win over her making both long ball exchange shots. Graf is much better than Hingis at all levels: athleticism, forhands slice backhands fast movement on the ground mental and technical skills strong and well-placed serves endurance.... In this match Graf was a little upset with Hingis unexpected drop shots. At the final set, both players looked so tired and Graf was so smart at using her ace serves to make the difference and end the match to her advantage. Graf had a long career compared to hingis and faced many stronger players in the past so naturally with such a wide professional experience she would eventually win after such a long match game with 5 sets while Hingis' energy kept running out, lost her concentration and gave up.

ThePeaceful14 Hingis was just 16 at this time. But Hingis at 18 beat Graf at the Tokyo Pan Pacific indoors (1999). In fact, Hingis was leading Graf at the 1999 French final before she let a bad call ruin her psyche and her hold on that match.

What garbage you speak. Hingis was an inexperienced player facing the veteran Graf. Hingis played in the most competitive era of women's tennis (Davenport, Williams sisters, the Belgians, Mauresmo, etc). Hingis owned all of the players that Graf struggled with and honestly Hingis would have owned Graf if they had more overlap in their career. The only thing that beat Hingis was overwhelming power which despite her forehand, Graf did not have compared to the players that came after Graf had a better forehand, serve, and athleticism, but Hingis was better in ever other area including foot speed

Steffi played so well this match really wore out the young inexperienced Hingis. Martina not her equal in the power or fitness. Steffi is the best ever

Jose Cardenas Nope. Serena is the best ever. Graf benefited from the Seles’ stabbing. Serena beat them all .

Illya Kuryakin Plenty. She beat Steffi at a final in Indianwells when she was just 16 and hasn’t fully developed her game. Then she beat Justine Henin plenty of times, Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati, Mary Pierce, Kim Clijsters, Amelie Mauresmo, Arantxa Sanchez, Conchita Martinez, Martina Hingis (in winning her first major back in 1999), Sharapova, Venus Williams (when Venus was at her peak), et al...And Serena beat them all when she won her Serena slam (2002-2003). Now, when Graf won her grand slam she beat a past her peak Evert (Australia), an overmatched Zvereva who wouldn’t reach another major final, a past her peak Navratilova and at the US Open, a mentally fragile Sabatini which she had always owned. When Monica Seles matured, from 1990-1993, Seles won most slams with the exception of the 91 & 92 Wimbledon. Their last major meeting before Seles was stabbed by a Graf fan was at the Australian Open won by Seles. After the stabbing, Graf started her haul of majors because no one else was good enough to beat her. She beat a pushover Mary Joe, a mentally weak Novotna and an aging Sukova at the US Open. Then she destroyed Arantxa (a player she dominated a lot) at the Australian Open. Sure, upsets happen as evidenced by her loss to Pierce and McNeil but Graf didn’t really have a great player like Seles to challenge her after Seles got stabbed. Hingis was still developing from 1995-1996. Davenport didn’t become great until 1998 and after Davenport beat her at the 1999 Wimbledon final Graf retired. Graf would have lost to the 2000 version of Pierce at the French or the improved Davenport, Venus and Serena in 2000 and beyond.

Mark Decena blah blah back to you l! Graf’s grand slam against an aging and past her prime Evert, an underwhelmed and unspectacular Zvereva (who never made the Top 10), a past her prime and burnt out Navratilova and a choker and unfit Sabatini. That’s why Graf won the slam in 88. She had inferior opponents. Really pathetic compared to the more quality opponents of Serena. Oh and none of Serena’s rivals got stabbed by the way. That 1993 season of Graf, laughable. Winning against a weak Fernandez, a choker Novotna and an overmatched Sukova. Graf didn’t win the Australian that year because guess what...Seles wasn’t yet stabbed. And Seles creamed her.
