Hi We are Fran and Rich and in 2018 we had a complete lifestyle change. Tired of the rat-race we sold up and bought a canal narrowboat to explore Britain's inland waterways. Now, five years on, we have a new boat - Laura Maisie to continue our adventures. Our vlogs portray our lives with our two dogs, Jess and Archie. As we say 'It's not just about the boat!'
Many thanks Fran and Rich xx

We love your posts, beautiful scenery and very interesting.
Many thanks!
Thanks for the bow seat ride, so peaceful and calming. Take care =-)
It is so peaceful at the front of the boat, we should take turns sitting there more often
What a wonderful experience listening to all those birds at their dawn chorus! Thanks for sharing. Happy cruising. Cheers
Oh my goodness! I'm thankful you got safely back to your boat!!
Us too, we are still really nervous of field with cows when we have the dogs.
It's funny to hear, when you hit the right moment! It is dead still in the morning, and the one bird utters a little tweet and in a split second they all join in in an explosion of sound. A rare experience, but being there in the right moment is just amazing 🙂 Love fom Denmark
I often wonder what makes that first bird sing. It is as if the others are all waiting .
Loved the songbird.❤ Beautiful vlog again!
Thank you 😊
Thank you both beautiful video xx
I don't get y the canal bosses don't put some rock down all the worst paths, budgeting x amount a year.. till eventually it's done. Never been on a canal journey in the countryside myself so there's probably a sensible answer to be had. Just see a lot of folk getting rather muddy is all. You'd think in a 100+ years they might have sorted most of it by now especially putting the prices up..
Money is so short and funding is gradually being removed so often all they can to is cheap repairs that don't last. Especially in areas where there are not many cyclists etc
Absolutely beautiful vlog. Breathtaking scenery along that stretch of the canal and the birdsong just glorious to hear. Thanks for sharing and have a fab time at Crick xx
Many thanks!
Some people! I know. I NEVER question peoples choices 100% with you. My son only eats red meat from appropriate places he was vegetarian from 9 till 17 Fake meat is awful & worse. I prefer vegetables I must eat cheese though organic etc! What fools comment that! sigh.. I hear you both! You can buy large mushrooms now, Rich textures is really lovely! + cost affective.
I am the same I eat fish when out if no vegetarian meals & sometimes for nutrient. Same I buy local eggs as we need the protein from home grown and they are well cared for and loved.
Hello hello helllo !
Brilliant, great video again. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
The Merlin app is great for identifying birdsong.
We have now downloaded that, and it is brilliant
I just put my phone near the TV and you heard blackbird, wren, Robin, blackcap, chiffchaff, mistle thrush, song thrush, and Wood pigeon. There might have been a pheasant too!!😁😁
That's amazing. Thank you
@@FloatingOurBoat ❤
We loved your vlogs as always especially listening to the dawn chorus and we wondered if you know about the Merlin app? You record the bird song and it identifies which bird it is you’re listening to
We have downloaded it now. Wish we had it then
“Meet the Huggets “Ah the memories lol😬
I always think of great British beers I have tasted when I hear Burton on Trent. I Cheers 👍🍺😀
What a wonderful video. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think i have heard someone say that when you listen to the blackbird song it changes over the year, and in covid times i remember hearing the black bird so clearly, and its song i got use to, and it almost became like words to me, this was because there was less traffic around then. it was quite a wonderful experience, just like you have shown us. its amazing when you truly stop and listen. thank you for showing us the beauty of bird song. and enjoy your dandelion honey, yum..x 🥰😇
The blackbird has to be my favourite song. I have heard that birds also have regional differences in their songs. Quite amazing
Yes they doing . They they have can accent! Imagine the difference between a Yorkshire blackbird and a Devonshire one. Brilliant 🐦⬛😊
Sorry meant to say. Yes they do. They can have an accent. .
So beautiful, thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Love how you can both appreciate and enjoy the natural habitats together. We are fortunate to have so much beauty in the U.K. Fran, you made me smile when you said “up the road” on the canal and “round the corner” in the woods. 😊 Guess it’s in our nature!
I guess it is. sad really that we have been so indoctrinated. I hadn't realised I said ""corner in the woods. Interesting!
omg love the Vvlog, love the tree hugging... thank you
😊 thank you Lyn, I love a good tree hug!
omg this is so beautiful...being ammount the birds and hearing them, I am not a morning person, but I guess I would get up to here these.. so nicely...
We had a good lay in the next day to make up for it
The birds on my property can chatter sounding like millions and try as I might I can hardly see a one of them in the trees.
It is the same for us. The only time to see them clearly is in the winter
That was GOOOOD!! I so enjoyed all of it. The filming, the peace, the sounds, the music... just perfect. Thank you both for sharing so much of this with us. We're all very lucky. My love to the five of you....... Well, we can't forget Maisie! Xx.
I’ll be in Milton Keynes , I’ve ask my husband to bring me, we’ll see!
Hope to see you there
Great vlog as usual. Question for Fran. Hou said that the hugging tree would have grown by 2cm between 2022 and 2024. Is that radius or circumference?
That is circumference. Most trees grow about 1 cm / year on average
Ah, loved ❤ the meditative journey, that morning song was very relaxing and one with nature… thank you both for a nice calming few moments in our crazy world 🙏😊
I think we all need more calm moments
Incredible video. A forest bird bath. I like it. Amazing sounds ,scenery, filming and colours. Honey looks yummy. Thank you both. Loved the tree hugging.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi both.. I’m catching up and just listened to this…. I could listen to you just chatting and musing about life all day long…. it’s quite meditative in itself. You sound well.
Thank you
Shame it looks like we'll miss you as you are 'on our manor' just down the cut at Shebdon. We've mored at the Knighton moorings a few times and walked those woods - beautiful place beautiful canal enjoy.
It was a fab place to stay and I would love to see those woods throughout the year
Winnie Wallace...I hope you two realise how much your posts are appreciated. You're my go-to place when I need to de-stress. What a shame the Wharf Tavern couldn't be more accommodating with you being fifteen minutes late..... Miserable gits.
We are so pleased they bring you a little bit of calm
As for dawn chorus, how about evening chorus. Not far from where I live is an old woods and its the place where hundreds of crows, jackdaws, rooks etc all go to roost, but first they all fly around, park on the electric and phone wires making the most unearthly din, NOT as relaxing as your dawn chorus.
We have had lots of crows or jackdaws at our current mooring. So annoying!!
Another wonderful video from the two of you. As for tree hugging, some 70 years ago, when I was a youngster, there was a great Oak not far from where I loved and my friends and I built a tree den in it, Now in my late 70's I take a walk passed that grand old Oak and I like to pat its trunk and say hello old friend.
What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it ❤️
Move from living on a boat to a croft in Scotland; now there's a thought.
Hello Both & the kids😊 Great watch. Hope to say hi to you all on Sunday at Crick❤XXxx
Wonderful, thank you
Thanks for publishing the podcasts on YT, but in this on Rich says welcome to Episode 5 and it seems to be the same podcast as the one labelled Episode 5.
Oh sorry, we got a bit confused in the early days
Do you have the Merlin app on your phones
We have got it now and it is amazing. Quite addictive
The birdsong is just glorious! Must be one of the best part of canal life.
All the wildlife is really
It is comforting to imagine ourselves in this beautiful forest, and to hear the peaceful sounds of the birds, instead of the beeps and buzzers in this city life. This vlog helps to lift spirits. Absolutely fantastic I thank thee Rich & Fran awesome.
So glad you get some peace from it. Thank you
Excellent video as usual. I enjoy your videos so very much! I'm enjoying Springtime as well, here in Philadelphia!
Beautiful video!!! The cruise was like turning the pages of woodland picture book!!! Such a lovely area to cruise!!!!! Do hope they manage to clean up the sides at some point. Now that early morning birdsong - wow, I just might have to get myself out of bed early one of these days!!! Such beautiful choruses!! The Merlin App would go nuts trying to identify all those!!! Thank you so much.
We have got the app now but didn't at the time. I'm not sure it would have coped with the constant noise
That was a lovely video, gosh it was a bit hairy down that cutting ,!! I bet it would be so scary if you were passing when it slid.😱 Looks lovely weather, hope it continues for you ❤😮
We have been through on dark rainy days and it is a bit spooky
What a wonderful time to hear the English birds. We have some that are the same birds. I hear our Orioles and Cardinals also. Thank you!🇨🇦
I have heard that birds have regional accents
Loved the bird song. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi there 😊
When I was working and raising a famiy I would get annoyed with the birds waking me up too early. Now that I'm retired, my children are grown and I am widowed I love to hear them in the morning. The video was beautiful.
It is just the same for me
