My love affair with the UK canals and boats has waxed and waned over the last 6 years. I’ve followed, and unfollowed, a number of channels over the last few years but Floating Our Boat has been the constant for me. Thank you Fran and Rich.

My late "significant other" was born in Darbyshire... although she was Canadian by nationality (interesting story). We lived in Peterborough (Ontario, Canada)...AND we have the...TRENT CANAL(!!) running through the east of the city. Nothing much like your canals BUT it features a bloody great liftlocks not unlike Anderton, except for the fact that it was built as a massive concrete structure rather than Anderton's iron framework.

Fantastic Video Guys … thanks for bringing another video dedicated to the what I call, ‘The Gentle Life’. There was a video from another regular channel that paints a completely misguided depiction of life aboard. For me and if we’re not careful, these essays could actually put people off considering a life afloat, your video’s, both authentic and natural show the life for what it really is …. There are only four channels doing a grand job. Yours is one of them.

Often when I am going to comment on your vlog (Fran & Rich) I have to go back to your intro page to refresh your names. Hello Fran & Rich, It's always a pleasure to see you, wish it was in person but this is close and good enough for now. My dear friend and his wife are at their wits end over their daughter, they live in Galway, Ireland. Their daughter had cancer on one vertebrae, she went into surgery at 4:00 P.M. today, 9hours later she came out and they're waiting on the pain management team to arrive and explain everything to them. We've all been praying for her and it seems like it's done some good, thank heaven. I hope to see more of your videos, I love to listen to you both telling us all about your trip through the locks and the tunnels. Hi Fran & Rich, Well after a few weeks binging we've finally made it through all your back vlogs and are upto date. Shame you had to rush through Bridgewater, Worsley is really nice. We were also strapped for time when we passed through in July bringing our boat from Lancaster canal to Cropredy. We really enjoy your vlog style, a mix of canal, walks and attractions, so like us! Sorry you had to leave your mooring in Yorkshire, Fran seemed really sad about that but you were probably both starting to stagnate there and it look like you've got your mojo back. Don't know if you have done the Llangollen before, It's my favourite canal especially the section from Grindley Brook to Llangollen, only two locks. If you have time, pay a visit to Whixall Marina, what a lovely spot that is. We had to visit it during our holiday from hell that we thoroughly enjoyed to have our domestic alternator changed when it packed up. We spent most of a lovely day here having meals in the café. what a gorgeous spot. other things that went wrong, 1 Rammed by another boat even before leaving our mooring at Trevor 2 then my wife fell backwards from the welldeck into the boat, 3 one of the black water tanks hadn't been emptied 4 was the alternator and 5 What I thought was a winding hole at Grindel Brook wasn't, but with the help of the lock keepers there we managed to turn the boat, all 65ft of her.

The issue of remembering names - It doesn't have to be an age thing. Studies have shown that some people just don't remember names no matter how hard they try - and I am one of those. My wife remembers all family and friends car number plates but struggles with some names. We actually have a crib sheet to remember all our favourite canal vloggers names, boat names and pets names. We were getting names too mixed up. Merry Christmas to the both of you. We are really enjoying watching vlogs with some winter weather. I miss it a lot. Christmas in the tropics is not the same and I genuinely miss seasons. We were home to UK for September (first trip since before Covid) and naturally expected autumnal weather - and packed accordingly. Instead we had around 30 centigrade, so not much cooler than we have here. Tim & Jalika

@@FloatingOurBoat My late mother used to remember all plant names - common, proper and botanical. She was a teacher and somehow could remember all the kids names - the entire school since apart from being a class teacher she had them all class by class for music - and concert practices. Outside of school she had a heck of a time trying to remember names though - and never ever knew a single phone number, even in the days of 4 digit numbers. She didn't know her own car number either, so many's the time she's tried to get in the wrong car in a supermarket carpark. It's a cool evening here due to a few hours of rain - only 25 centigrade. Yes, some Christmas weather would be nice.

Those tunnels looked really interesting, as well as the bends, the arch shape seemed subtly different... just a shade more pointy in the apex than some? My wife's and my first experience on the canals was on this part of the T & M very many years ago. I rather think Saltersford and Barnton tunnels were the first tunnels we experienced. We'd hired a boat at Northwich and went along the T & M to the Potteries and then up the Caldon Canal. When we returned we had time to spare before returning the boat and so went past the hire base and continued towards Preston Brook before winding. Many thanks for your wondeful videos, Fran & Rich! Great that you made it through the lock at Middlewich in time! And I look forward to your cruise up the Llangollen Canal, which my wife and I did with friends while the lockdown was still on in Wales. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Llangollen!

Many or them are timed entry so nobody should be coming. Others you can see through if they are not too long and you just have to wait.

Quick question, what happens if you get half way through the 'Bendy' tunnel and another boat is heading your way

That is why it is timed entry, nobody should be coming the other way

Glad you made it, now relax. I have a question about the tunnel with the bend. When you go in you can‘t see if a boat is coming the other way. What do you do if there is? Best wishes to you ❤

These tunnels have timed entry slots so there should not be a boat coming the other way.

Usually you can. CRT do not fine you if you are stuck for reasons beyond your control. They never fine people anyway, just send a warning letter and if you continue they may refuse to renew your licence.

Two tunnels were timed entrances so you would hope no one is coming the other way. If they are then they’re abusing the rules. The last tunnel you could see the end at entering so no need to. Thanks for watching.
