I've followed your blog for many months now and on the whole I've really enjoyed watching you. Tonight I was surprised and saddened by your comments on dairy cows lying in their own excrement inside barns in winter. A terrible comment! I've worked and still work on dairy units most of my life and i love my life. The cows are all well looked after and their muck is scraped away twice a day at milking time and fresh bedding put down down! Please don't tarnish dairy farms to your viewers. Look forward to your reply Rich Scott, a dairy farm worker who loves looking after cows 😊

Hello Rich and thanks for your considered reply. I wanted to take time before answering. My 'terrible comment' was based on our many years of experience walking across this beautiful landscape of OURS (on paths we are told to tread) and more than occasionally through and around dairy farms. There is one such farm near Skipton that we have passed on several occasions, recently, where at least 40 cows are crammed into a shed so small that none of them are able to lay down on the stone floor, let alone walk, and the stench is palpable. They may be allowed into the fields at some point but, while they wait, the conditions are not pleasant. Many farms we have seen housing their stock over winter on concrete ground and cows laying with not a shred of hay to be seen. Maybe we were visiting as the excrement was about to be removed and the hay delivered - who knows? Several people have challenged my point but all, including you, have missed the point of what I said and that is - If people only bought what they need and wasted nothing then maybe the whole dairy 'industry' could be smaller and less intensive and kinder. Calves being removed from mothers after a couple of days, cows bred to give yields far in excess of their natural capacity, lame cows kept in small yards but still having to be milked, massive tanks of slurry spread across fields leeching into our watercourses, millions of acres all given over to a monoculture of grass to feed these animals killing off our natural flora and insects in the process. All of these practices so humans can drink the milk of an animal meant for its own young. So this is my response and, again, I thank you for your comment and hope we haven't spoiled your enjoyment of our channel.

Hello again rich and fran, Just a few more lines from me, first of I really appreciate your considerd reply and I was interested to read it. Unfortunately over the last few decades the price paid to the farmer for milk has barely covered the cost of production. I think this is mainly because we have become used to cheap food and milk and a loaf of bread has probably become a loss leader in many supermarkets just to entice people in to fill up their trolley. At the moment the farmer gets TOLD he or she will be paid around 35 pence per litre of milk. This in most cases barely covers the cost of production. Small family dairy farms are gradually disappearing because of the pressure on overheads and what we're seeing is herds getting bigger and more efficient and fewer but bigger herds. In an ideal world you say we should consume less and waste less, I agree but in reality this doesn't seem to happen. If you spoke to the average dairy farmer I'm sure they would love to keep less cows and farm less intensively. If a calf was left on mum for longer before weaning etc. and less milk taken off mum this would be more labour intensive at milking time and you would need more buildings. At a guess, milk and dairy products would need to double at least! The farm you mentioned is the type of place that gives farming a bad name in my opinion. Where i work the stock is always well bedded up and the foot trimmer comes once a month to keep on top of lameness. This countries rules on farm animal welfare and slurry/muck disposal are probably some of the strictest in the world, second to none! All that our farmers ask is to be able to produce food on a level playing field. Most food imports are produced at lower welfare standards than ours. As you're probably aware there are lots of small farms tapping into niche markets which is great but it all comes at a premium. For our expanding population I don't know what the answer is.... do you? Love watching your channel, you are a great couple, hope you enjoy your next chapter after leaving your mooring. Incidentally I'm a proud Yorkshire man 😊👍

@@user-ms4go4bw3c…..A very well considered reply 👍unfortunately British agriculture is given a very bad image and reputation by the poorly informed. It will be wonderful for our countryside to be returned to nature for all the wildlife and flora . Being reliant on Europe and the rest of the world for our food however will be a disasterous consequence 😢

Don't think he was targeting you mate was just making an observation of his experience !
Thank you so much for sharing your time with us, really enjoyed it. Fran, so lovely to show your feelings about leaving a place. So natural. Love to you xx❤
How enjoyable, lovely people finding new secret places, delightful!
It's lovely up around Barlick - I'm not surprised that your decision to go continuous cruising again is a bittersweet one. But it's a choice you're making for the right reason by the sound of it. In a world where so much is superficial, you're genuine and stay true to yourselves.
Your boat won’t need cheering up; it’s been patiently waiting to be on the move for 5 months. Best wishes as you cruise along; understand the need to move!
I've been following you both since the beginning, and you've never disappointed with your videos. Although I could understand your reasons for renting a permanent mooring I'm selfishly so pleased you've decided to return cruising as I've missed you both. Thank you both so very much ❤
How lovely I grew up by the Aqueduct, walked miles & in those woods I picked wild snowdrops bluebells and cowslips - when we were allowed to, I remember when I was young so many bars fell off the bridge path and huge gaps in the railings but no one ever got hurt.❤
Cruising and boozing - I like that idea!😅
Boating is all about moving and not staying in one place for too long that’s what houses are for good luck in your new Adventures and Travels take care and stay safe
Lovely to see you back on the move. That tour of the pub cellar was so interesting. Thanks very much.
love it, so relaxing, so personal, really like you both. BUT.... do one where you both have a few beers
Grand your on the move, Not like Fran in tears. You will need to own two mooring some miles apart Anyway you have made the right thing for now.Hope Cheers
Although you felt sad saying goodbye to friends you would have made on fixed mooring, the joy on your face talking about new places where moored along towpath says it all. You are meant to travel and find new places. Boozing and cruising😂😂 I would like to set you a challenge, to find the oldest pub along the towpath or villages you visit. Maybe the oldest tea shop also. I will be watching your new adventures. 💚

Aah that would be really difficult as there are so many pubs which claim to be the oldest. It would be fun researching though ☺️
As someone once said to me ...`only regret the things you didn`t do`. Lovely video and Fran had my eyes filling up.

Just brilliant
Hi Guys, Great venue, good times. There`s always a return trip, vacation. Loving your vlogs.😍
I have missed the two of you toddling along somewhere beautiful and green, nosing about and discussing the weather LOL. Makes the best videos.
After watching your video, just thought I’d let you know that some friends of ours ( who were moored near you ) , have taken over your plot. You’ll be happy to know they are keen gardeners and grow their own vegetables.

Ah, we did hear that. We are really pleased as they will hopefully enjoy the raised beds and what veg we have left behind
The stay at your mooring allowed you to "recharge" and remind you what attracted you to the canal life. Too bad you cannot keep the mooring and return to it occasionally for exactly the same reason!
Lovely to see you and the beautiful scenery. We're desperate for the rainy season to start here in a very dry and dusty Gauteng so will soon be counting every single drop as a blessing. Wishing you many days of happy cruising and looking forward to watching you all the way. 💞
Thank you so much! Bonnie in Arizona 4:01
Looking forward to all your new adventures thank you both and dogs xx
missed you travelling!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have just a little winter mooring with a heated greenhouse 😅if there was such a thing. Thank you for showing the ‘underworld’ in the pub it was truly interesting to see what changes the canals made. Amazing the things we don’t know around us. Looking forward to your new adventures.

Don't change the name of the video to "Sinking our Boat", lol! This is only a joke, I know you didn't hit the boat hard at all. I just love your videos, I only wish I could be there with you enjoying the countryside. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Beautiful. Thanks for the video.. The Pub was very nice.
Just sniff the milk! So true but common sense isn’t very common😂 Looking forward to sharing in your new adventures, safe travels❤

Ginny, or Jenny Greenteeth, was a water witch who pulled naughty children into her well and drowned them. It was also another name for duckweed apparently :) You have to love British folk lore lol.
Hi Fran & Rich, how wonderful to see you both! It's really lovely to see you cruising again, this was a great video...the pub cellar...wow how interesting, thank you for telling us the history. I was just making note of the time, which I thought would make a beautiful picture @11:29 apprx, hope your boat didn't get much damage. You are such a wonderful couple! So much history hidden away. So glad you enjoyed it. x
What beautiful English countryside you two are enjoying. Watching you both glide through all of this in your boat makes me wonder why so many people crave to live in concrete and brick cities. I know that we all can not live in the country side. I’m originally from London , but I could never ever live with the daily commute and congestion of a large city again. Enjoy what you two have got. Best regards from Barry in NZ🇳🇿

Dye only works on cotton thread as we have both found out.
It has been a while since a post has appeared on my laptop. I was happy to see y'all. That was a lovely place you were moored but I am sure there will be equally beautiful places ahead for you. The Anchor is was lovely and a very interesting story about the cellar. I would never have suspected seeing stalactites dripping from the ceiling in a cellar....that was just amazing. Thanks for sharing this trip, such wonderful wildflowers everywhere. Have a lovely fall cruise and a Blessed day.
Great new decision to cruise again

You could always blanche and freeze most veggies. No matter where you move on from, you always take the memories with you (and us to a point). You won't be the first to "Rinse" certain items in the CUT. I have dropped glasses, they were saved, drowned a couple of battery watches and a few other sundry things over the years. If you were ever scared, you wouldn't have taken up boating in the first place, would you?Take care out there.

Had many a happy hour or two in the Anchor. Our NB was built in Barlick at Lower Park in 1992 !!!!!!! We fitted it out while there over two years so the Anchor was a nice sail when we felt thirsty. We are in New Zealand now and sold the boat in around 2010. Happy times.

I love the history fab and the views great video,
What an interesting place. You guys seem very energized by this change. ❤
Glad to see you are on the move once again. We did stop watching when you moored. We love the countryside walks and history that you are showing. Good point that we are not meant to digest another animals's milk:). (This comment is coming from a ketovore!!). My other half still likes it though; so a pint lasts a long time in our house. Therefore, "sniff n' go" is very much his way of doing things...☺.
Thank you! I love seeing you cruising properly again. Hearing the excitement in your voices and Rich's obvious relief at moving on reflects our very short term stagnation of 6 weeks enforced stay at Skipton coming to an end.
Lovely video!
