Hello,from Nova Scotia, Canada! I found you a week ago and have binge watching your Vlog from the beginning. Thought I would catch up to your contemporary work and tell you what a joy it is to watch your travels. My travelling years are over and I am an armchair fan living vicariously now. My boating days are behind me, but wish now that I had travelled to England years ago and taken some of the canal trips, but my work here would not allow it. Now after years of retirement I am settleed in with my dog and live the quiet life... well, most days! Blessings and keep the wheel turning! :)

So, where I live in Bavaria one of the local breweries can trace it's roots to about 1060~. That's five years or so before the "Normans" (who were basically contenders for the throne of Ångland anyway) decided to invade. 1066 was an important year in history. The village where I live in Bavaria celebrates it's 1200 year inauguration (824) this year. Looked at like this the USA is literally a young child on the planet with a lot of growing to do. Too bad we have to witness the USA going through its pubescent tantrum phase at the moment, before settling down to become a decent young adult with designs for the next 300 years.

I'm glad you mentioned your weaving and painting again. i just took a look and was immediately taken by Rich's Field Edge. A beautiful liminal space. Who knows when and where you'll get back to a post office, but I'll be happy to receive a bit of your work, and to share your travel landscape vicariously. No major mud here, but the mosses are a brilliant green carpet after the winter rains.

I loved your vlog of Whitchurch. It is so nice seeing the villages and towns and not just the canals.We spent time there in 2004 and went to the White Bear Pub and stayed on the Whitchurch arm of the canal. Thanks again for a interesting and informative vlog.

Whitchurch is a lovely little town, full of quirky shops and interesting buildings. We were there in the summer and enjoyed our time on the arm. Loving all the signs of Spring.

Lovely vlog, thanks! So nice to see pretty flowers coming up somewhere, especially your tulips on the boat. We've got a blizzard in progress here in stinking Minnesota. But elsewhere it's nice, and I can at least enjoy vicariously with a cup of tea. I ran out of Twinings and am now using up the Tetley. Ran out of sweeties yesterday so I made a chocolate chunk bread pudding. Pretty good! Take care Fran and Rich, hugs to the pooches! 😊

Canterbury Tales is going to be work, Fran. Good on you! Really loved Whitchurch. I'd love to go to Etzio. Really good prices compared to Ireland. No wonder they're booked out. The pub and the refill shop were really interesting! These are the kinds of insight to England that are hard to get. Looking forward to your next episode, whenever!

Moored there for a year back in 98 when it was a privately owned marina the owner couldn't do enough for you had mixed luck there though, Broke the windscreen on our Dawncraft after catching one of the lift bridges on the branch prop fell off when we left and ended up T boning a narrowboat but it was a good time thanks for the vlog brought back memories, takecare.😊

Lovely video, brought back some family holiday memories of us on Llangollen canal in the early 1970s. Although we three kids had a great time, my poor Mum ended up in Whitchurch Cottage Hospital with a broken ankle after jumping off the boat and stepping into a hole (ouch!) But we had a great time. Loved the scenery ❤

Fran, have you read Andy Griffee's canal mystery books? The fifth one is just now coming out. Enjoyable light reading about various crimes that take place on or near the canals. I loved the town tour. Looks like a lovely place.

Have you been down the Montgomery canal yet? My Grandfather was lockkeeper at lower Aston lock until the canal became uncommercial in the 1930s. The canal has been restored after years of decline.

Two towns that I have lived both had pubs in going back to 1640s,and that's not unusual in uk

Whixhall moss was our favourite place moor for peace and tranquility,no cars,no light pollution ,no railway noise,no aircraft very few pedestrians,almost like going back to an earlier time.Thanks for showing it.

It is a very special place

I know that some folks still like to have a book in their hands, but with Kindle and Readly there are thousands of free opportunities to read exactly what you want (including Chaucer, Shakespeare and many other classics). No need to carry around heavy books made of paper anymore and the twenty books a year will be a doddle :-)

There's something terrifying about being smacked in the face with an Amazon fire tablet when you fall asleep reading that feels so natural and cosy when it's a real book :-). And chin up Rich, those sunny days are upon us again. Having suffered bouts of depression myself for many years, February was always the worst for me. The love shown to me by my wife of 47 years kept me going and I'm sure she suffered my depression more than me. Fran is genuinely a good'un, someone to cherish, or as we both say...a "keeper" but I know I'm preaching to the converted ;-) Bless you both for doing what you both do so brilliantly, so naturally and also so publicly for other people's entertainment. You lead such wholesome lives and not without cost to yourselves, so I take my hat off to you both. Many thanks from Heather, myself and Teddi the tiny terrorist Chihuahua (pictured) And, to put money where my gobby mouth is, H and I have sent £10 via PayPal to buy a bottle of wine for you both, or something else nice. We arrived in Whitchurch yesterday, (after passing Laura Maisie!) walked into town for a beer and found a brand new brewery tap room called Magic Dragon Brewing, great beers! We really like Whitchurch, great charity shops, pubs, history and architecture

You are so right

The nice thing about The Canterbury Tales is that, apart from the Prologue, it’s a lot of self contained tales that can be read at random. Trying to read it in the original Middle English isn’t as difficult as one might think, with the aid of a glossary, though that really slows you down!
