I found one listed on a certain auction site for £349.00! It was a 1954 edition. Sadly I had to settle for a cheaper, newer edition but am looking forward to the read.

I get Richard's "we like the misery of it" Not a morose comment at all, it's the spirit of experiencing life! I could get deliveries but I'd never leave the house, I enjoy occasionally running out of milk and making my way through the park to the supermarket and inevitably experiencing something I wouldn't otherwise have. Love you two

Great presentation of an area I know well from my youth! Fun fact - my grandfather, James Diggory, owned the iron foundry in Llangollen that built the aqueduct with Thomas Telford. And that’s my Auntie Ginny’s old house on the river at 11.28.

@@FloatingOurBoat It was great when we were growing up that’s for sure, but it certainly didn’t look like it does now! It’s actually built on an old Iron Age forge I believe and is mentioned in the domesday book. I think a firm of architects from Liverpool bought it when my auntie snuffed it and did all the fancy work.

I've always hoped someone like you, Fran, would attempt to make your own version of a Bargee's pail and show us. I've since made my own landlubbers version for over top a campfire when we're working outside in the spring here in Canada. I love how humble and filling it is. Dorothy Hartley was amazing! I've got her "Food in England" and its companion volume "Water in England", which I'm sure you would find fascinating. The (short) section on canals is introduced by her writing about a certain aqueduct: "We give this example of water conducted in triumph across a valley by Mr. Telford and his chosen workmen, because it happens to be near our home and well known to us". She doesn't give its name - but now we know!

Fascinating that you have flowers coming up in January….we don’t get any flowers until April if we are fortunate in having a warm stint of weather. Due to a lot of ice and then snow, I don’t go for walks as the temperature has been -14c (ouch)!🇨🇦

Hi guys! Welcome back. Not much vitamin D to be had in north Wales in December. Or August, for that matter. It's a beautiful part of the world, but the weather does tend towards the moist end of the scale. My family still own a small piece of ancient woodland, which only survives because it's on a steep slope that can't be used for anything else. The local "Countryside project" offered to _take it off our hands,_ to preserve it for future generations... Bloody cheek! Happy new year. 😉

I met someone in that woodland working for the forestry commission and he said that most of the ancient woodland is on steep slopes where it cant be reached by farmers. You keep hold of your woodland, it is my dream to own one.

@@FloatingOurBoat It was the only bit of land that remained after the farm was sold, back in the 60s, because it was "worthless." Now, it's protected. Funny how attitudes have changed.

Bulbs react to the temperature around them. 🙂 So clever. So beautiful. Snowdrops (Galanthus) will wait for a certain temperature before coming up. The same temperature that means that the bees are also out and about. Snowdrop leaves contain a natural antifreeze which I think is flipping amazing. I’ve also just discovered that there are 20 different species of snowdrops - I never knew that. Apparently, they all have slightly different flower and leaf shapes. I’d have to try and spot them all 🙂 Amazing , thanks so much for sharing your adventures with me. All the best. 🙂🐿🌈❤️ [sydney australia] In Australia in areas that receive no frost, gardeners will put some of their bulbs into their fridge crisper drawer for 6 -9 weeks.

Hi there. Just wondering; that narrow turn you had to take; how much space do you have at both sides? And also the aquaduct; there doesn't seem too much room. Eagerly waiting for the net vlog. That might be a stormy one. 😃🖐

These canals are only meant for narrow boats so the bridges, locks and aqueducts only have inches each side of the boat. It is a good thing on the aqueducts as the boat cannot move around and then bang into the sides

Hi you guys, for some reason I no longer get notifications of your videos, are you posting as many videos, I must confess, I have stopped watching many boating ones, there are so many and ones ( in my view) bringing the life down, almost like soap operas, and in some cases worse. You, guys have stayed the course and are always informative, stay well and stay safe.

Thanks for the note about Dorothy Hartley's book, Food in England. I have a cookbook recommendation too. It is The Gentle Art of Cookery by and Hilda Leyel and Olga Hartley. Maybe the Hartleys are telated. Hilda Leyel is aldo known as Mrs CF Leyel, her husband's first name initials. Many recipes for cooking with herbs, vegetables eggs, fish etc etc. I will look for the book you recommended

Your Welsh pronunciation is better than most other NB vloggers and your pontcysyllte is very good but please take the “y” out. It’s Pont cysyllte and not ponty cysyllte 😊. Sorry to be a PITA but you would be getting very close to perfect without the “y”. Even your “ll” or the hissing goose is not bad at all. Mind you Cefn Mawr needs a bit of work 😁. Keep up the great vlogs have been following you from the start and love them all…….. da iawn chi.

I promise you it isn’t, it’s a phonetic language and once you’ve learnt the sounds it is quite easy. Believe me, I was born in England and moved to Wales when I was 7 years old. The hardest sound to learn is “ll” and words like “y llall” which is “the other one” in English. But it is so important as the second official language of Wales. Making the effort is hugely appreciated and thank you.
