Great comics man good job
Thanks a bunch Joe (youtube.com/@pocanjoe), really appreciate the feedback. I hope you are well and we get to catch up soon on the streams.
I have an avengers #1 and a ASM #15 uk variants and actually I’ve seen @mightycomicsandcollectables also talk about the rare uk books so I’ve been looking for them too.
That's awesome youtube.com/@MantagaAMGDrope and thank you for the comment. I'm very jealous of your Avengers 1 UK price variant! Glad to hear I'm in good company with Laurence (youtube.com/@mightcomicsandcollectable) in appreciating these rare undervalued prints.
Everyone should have a copy of DC Comics Presents #26
Thanks David (youtube.com/@davidsalaski9095), absolutely agree! It's a classic that every comic book fan should own.
Great Vid. Subscribed for sure. All of those books are great keys, quite a lot of bargains to be had at the moment in the market place. Those are some pretty big boy books in the second half of the video.... GL on finding some pence Avengers and FF to your liking in the future.. Greetings from Scotland :D
Thank you so much for subscribing and for your kind words youtube.com/@abzcomics1020! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my suggestions. My fingers are crossed that I can find UK price variants of Avengers 1, Fantastic Four 1 and Amazing Fantasy 15.
Not really a comic book store anymore. It looks like a pop culture store that sells some comics.
Very true David (youtube.com/@davidmckinley5343), but I suppose every store has to pivot pop culture to be successful/stay in business. That said, there are still comics on sale, both new and vintage, so it still counts.
@@StillOnly35c I agree. Comic Stores would go out of business without the pop sales. The place did look really cool even though they didn't really have a lot of comics.
I agree about the Uk price variants
Thanks kzread.info, appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the UK price variants!
Don't over look those Canadian and Spanish variants either... Some issues are impossible to find in any condition...
Thanks Harry (youtube.com/@harrybrass007). Agree and I have a couple of Canadian price variants; I hadn't heard of Spanish variants though. Another one to keep your eyes peeled for is Australian variants. Bizarrely all of these seem to be valuable in comparison to the US counterparts, which makes the UK price variants stand out even more as undervalued.
Great books from your PC. Can't go wrong with big first appearances. I like the UK Price Variants.
Appreciate that Brian (youtube.com/@BrianLCS), glad you liked the suggestions and good to know you are also on the UK price variant train too.
During my semester in London in 1986, in addition to hauling home the Dark Knight returns and other new issues, there were old Dr Strange out of back issue boxes with the UK price stamps which I cherish to this day. While the Canadian price variants have soared, not entirely sure why, I’m puzzled why the UKs haven’t. Then again, people still pay a premium if there is a jewelry advertisement in your book so go figure right?
Thanks and wow Daniel (youtube.com/@danielnicola1602), it sounds like you had an amazing comic book treasure hunt in London back in 1986! I'm with you on scratching my head why Mark Jewellers command a premium, but UK price variants don't.
Nice video man, I actually went to this comic and toy fair, don think I saw you though What app were you using at 18:50 ? Was it a comic price checker or database?
Thanks so much Riccardo (youtube.com/@riccardodipietro4400), sorry we missed each other at the show. On the app I'm using, it's the Whakoom app (whakoom.com).
Good evening David Great show sir, delighted to see theses great comics! Why indeed are pence comics so unvalued? Folk are still not convinced that they are not a valueless reprint perhaps. Keep up the great work of convincing otherwise. Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Thanks as always Al (youtube.com/@alancarr7718). I think you are right, I think collectors still think they are reprints and not from the same printing. Hopefully as more people begin to research that changes and they start to get recognised.
I don’t understand why uk price variants are less valued when they clearly look so good.
Thanks so much youtube.com/@ajguez, I'm with you and certainly think UK price variants are like hidden gems waiting to be appreciated by discerning collectors. I also like the look of them too, especially the bronze age copies with the different Marvel All-Colour Comics banner.
Netflix's Iron Fist series suffered from the same affliction as other Marvel series on that streamer, Netflix Bloat, stories that could have been told in 8 episodes filled out to 14 or more. The writers never understood the value of economy in story-telling. I agree about the first appearances of The Demon, Iron Fist and The New Teen Titans because they involve significant characters (and because they're simply great comics). I admire your enthusiasm for the pence variants, as you say, they are exactly the same comics as the US ones (just like the Australian Price Variants of the 90s). But realistically the only Hulk #1 or ASM #1 I'll ever own are modern-day reprints, even the Golden Record reprints are prohibitively expensive.
I can always rely on you Charlie (youtube.com/@charliedog7683) for some insightful comments. Thank you. Whilst Netflix's Iron Fist series had some moments, I agree it suffered from the bloated storytelling and lacklustre fights which should have been the strength of the series given its subject and hero. Glad you agree about these undervalued 1st appearances of The Demon, Iron Fist and The New Teen Titans as well as UK price variants.
Demon 1 is criminally undervalued. I just snagged a 9.4 white page copy not too long ago for a great price!
Cheers youtube.com/@conlinscomics, glad you agree and looks like you made a deal with the devil for that "Demon 1" copy! 😉
Another great video! 🤟 The Demon is definitely on my list to acquire 👌
Thanks so much Mike (youtube.com/@othermike), The Demon is a must-have on any list! Just watch out for any supernatural side effects.
Well I can’t show a Hulk #1 in a 5.5 or an ASM #1 but I’ll certainly do my best! Thanks for the shout out!
Thanks Hayden (youtube.com/@lettucecomics), look forward to seeing what books you suggest. I think you're Avengers Issue 1 trumps some of mine too, that's still on my wishlist!
@@StillOnly35c I actually got an Avengers #4! Funny enough, Avengers #1 isn't really on my radar.
My mistake, for some reason I had it in my head it was an Avengers 1, regardless it's another book on my wishlist.
I definitely want to get the first New Teen Titans, Iron Fist and the Demon.
That's a great choice Jim (youtube.com/@diggerjim7202), those are some classic comic book series for sure.
Sent you an IG DM, thanks again! 🤟
Thanks Mike (youtube.com/@othermike), but doesn't seem to have come through. Just in case, the IG account is instagram.com/stillonly35c/

Thanks for taking us along. Great pick ups!
Thanks for coming along for the ride Brian (KZread.com/@BrianLCS), some really great surprises in there for a comic event here in Australia.
Hi David, the Dredd board game is new to me, I've never seen it anywhere and don't recall it in the LCSs I visited in the 80s (and there were quite a few back then and I went to all of them every week). Yes, Alan who commented below me is correct regarding Fat's Comics in Annerley, I was there last week where I spent 2 hours and only scratched the surface.
Hey there Charlie (youtube.com/@charlierdogg7683)! Thanks for the heads-up about the Dredd board game not being in LCSs back in the day; glad I could share in that case. It's awesome to hear about your adventures at Fat's Comics as well; it was a great place to get lost in the hunt!
Good afternoon David Thank you sie I enjoyed the show, well done on the Judge Dredd board game, I wonder if they made it to Australia? I think Charliedogg will have some news on Fat's comics when he comments. I love the UK comics, I am a huge Doctor Who fan, watched it on the old Black and White from just a nipper, but never got into the comics. It is amazing in these days of streaming that Netflix doesn't have a go at Judge Dreddm but it might be better if they don't Keep up the great work Cheers Al The Gpoldkeyfourcolrkidownunda
Thanks Al (kzread.info). Not sure if the Judge Dredd game hit these shores in the 80s, was Games Workshop out here then? I know that 2000AD was sold here right? Loving having these high grade Doctor Who Weekly's too. I'm still hoping for the follow-up to Dredd (the one with Karl Urban), but sadly it's looking unlikely. Maybe Netflix will do it, but as you describe Judge Dredd might be too hardcore for their platform! Can't risk blowing up their servers with all that action!
Why is everyone wearing black!?
Thanks youtube.com/@leadpaint1! It's a thing in Melbourne apparently, black is the new black, after all.
Good Evenind David The Judge goes hunting! Well done on the retrievas.Charliedogg has already congratulated on the the Charltion hail. There is some great artist at work on those titles, I knew John Byrne cut his teeth on Charlton, but I had not realisedMike Zeck had got hois start there as well. And what a great collection those Still only 35 cents issues will make, and will keep you happyily on the hunt. It seems the show had some great titles available. Cheers Al The Goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Thanks a lot Al (youtube.com/@alancarr7718). Still a long way to go on the Still Only 35c hunt, especially in high grade. As fo those Charlton's glad you liked them and glad I was able to highlight not only early John Byrne, but some Mick Zeck early works too.
Great footage! Thanks for sharing 🤘
Thank you for watching Mike (youtube.com/@othermike) and appreciating the footage!
Mate, you had a REAL good dig! Been a long time since I've gone for a deep dig like that. Appreciate the support mate! Great pick ups! 👊
Cheers, mate (youtube.com/@TheSimpleverse)! Glad you liked the video, who knew digging at the show could be so exciting, right? Thanks for those great books.
Nice range of books David, and the Yarraville event reminds me of the dealers' rooms at the fondly remembered Sydney conventions organised by Kings Comics in the late 80s and the 90s. Good to see Charlton getting some time in the spotlight, while the company's was the epitome of cheapness (and not in the sense of costing little), they did have some fun supernatural titles in the 70s and notable superhero books in the 60s. Peter David's entire Hulk run is epic. So the big question: are you keeping the DC cards box as is or are you going to open it? Tough decision.
Thank you for your kind words Charlie (youtube.com/@charliedogg7683)! I'm glad you enjoyed the range of books and the event. Charlton and Peter David's run on Hulk (particularly the Todd McFarlane era) definitely have a special place in comic history and my collection. On the DC Cards box; I'm keeping it sealed as I have an almost complete set loose already; just hunting those holograms.
Thank you for sharing! As an Australian, would you be interested in a stack of Punisher comics from Australia? A few years ago, I happened upon them in the dollar bin, so I said to myself, cool! Australian variants!
Hey Alan (youtube.com/@alanhom5714), thanks for the offer and enjoying the video! Those Aussie Punisher comics sound intriguing, would love to check them out! If you want reach out via my Instagram (instagram.com/stillonly35c).
Always cool to see my Aussie brethren enjoying superhero action💪🏄😎🌴
Thanks Johnny (youtube.com/@johnnyr859), it's awesome to connect with fellow Aussies who appreciate comics!
Was a fun day!
Thanks Neville (youtube.com/@grailhunterscomicpodcast6302), sounds like you had a blast too!
I spent some weeks in Sydney in 2021, and the lack of decent comic stores anywhere near the city was extremely dissapointing. I visited the only dedicated comic retailer I could find within the city limits, and it was entirely underwhelming. After a nearly 1hour drive to get there, I found a tiny store with mostly modern books. The majority of the stock were funko pops, games and other nonsense. I dug deep in the back area short boxes and found something totally unnexpected; a golden age original Matt Baker western with an old army circulation stamp. I shared my surprise with the store owner as I walked to the counter to pay for it, only to find they had absolutely no idea who Matt Baker was... Anyway, another great video here - thanks for sharing! I was expecting to see a lot more of those vintage Aussie reprints from the vendors but I guess they're not in demand?
The Sydney comics store scene in 2024 has not improved. 25 years ago Phantom Zone and Kings Comics had at least four stores each in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. Now Phantom Zone is gone completely and there's only one Kings store, near the Town Hall, with no back issues older than from the 90s. Well done on the Matt Baker comic, and having the army stamp makes it historically interesting as well.
@@charliedogg7683 Are golden age reprints in demand locally? I was expecting to at least see a bunch of those, but no dice.
Thanks youtube.com/@technoviking4131. It's a shame there aren't more options in Sydney, but it's great you found that hidden Matt Baker gem!
@@technoviking4131 No, although there seems to be a dedicated group of Aussie Silver Age reprint fans because I see these comics sell quite regularly on Ebay. Perhaps the Golden Age reprints simply haven't survived in big numbers, and for those who want to read the originals, they can get them in modern reprint collections on quality paper and vibrant modern colours.
Did someone say John Byrne?!?
Thanks Mr Aiken (youtube.com/@WhatisOntheComicRack), I knew you'd appreciate that; anything John Byrne always makesme think of our shared interest in his books. We need to do a John Byrne focused joint livestream someday.
@@StillOnly35c Sounds like a great idea.

Fantastic piece of history, congratulations.
Hey, thanks a lot youtube.com/@captain_uk! I'm thrilled you liked it. Your support keeps me going!
Congratulations a great interview, so happy to see that comic book history like this is being recorded, the interview was very informative and turned on its head alot of my own ideas and takes regarding the art production for the Marvel UK books at this time so much more was produced in the US than I had always believed to have been. Truly a one of a kind VERY important recorded interview, up there with the Alan Class recorded interviews produced by 30th century comics a few years ago.
Thank you so much for your kind words youtube.com/@captain_uk! It means a lot to hear that you found the interview informative, eye-opening and more importantly, valuable for collectors in terms of Marvel UK landscape and history. I'll be covering more during my panel at San Diego Comic Con as well as future videos.
@@StillOnly35c I look forward to viewing that San Diego panel and future videos.

Good Evening David Top show as always mate, you never letthe tam down. Cool toys. Just a question, dou you have a Judge Dread figure? cheers Al The goldkeyfourcolorkidownunda
Thanks as aways Al (youtube.com/@alancarr7718). On Judge Dredd, sadly no figure as yet, but I'm considering it if I can find something suitable.
I hate to tell you BrotatoChip comics are not still 35 cent$
Thanks for pointing that out, certainly wish they still were though!
@@StillOnly35c I hear ya brother me too
I bought a Topps Jurassic Park 1 comic signed and numbered by George and the others from the book. I got it graded by CBCS but I’m going to send it to CGC eventually. Love the book
That's awesome youtube.com/@caseshells123! A signed and numbered comic is a great find! Good luck with the grading.
Hi David, the ROM figure is my favourite too. The Alien figure is still around in one form or another and has been in production for decades as it was modified to match characters from subsequent Aliens movies and comics. But ROM just screams 1970s for me and has remained as it was then. I think you should frame the letter from and photo of Tharg and give them pride of place on your wall. I had several Sal Quartuccio Production Marvel portfolios in the 80s and still have one, by Fastner and Larson. In fact, I was able to purchase a number of portfolios back then as an LCS had them so cheap that even an impoverished uni student could afford them. Apart from comics-themed ones, I have signed and numbered portfolios by Frank Brunner, Mike Ploog, Mike Saenz, Michael Netzer, Chris Achilleos and a several others. It's a shame that they aren't appreciated and valued more widely in Australia, I get the impression that they are still much in demand in the US - I've seen how much such portfolios by Frazetta go for, admittedly he's the holy grail of such items.
Thanks youtube.com/@charliedogg7683, ROM has a special place in my heart and yes, it screams late 1970s; glad it is your favourite too! That letter from Tharg The Mighty and the 2000AD droids is something special, it's a great idea to consider getting it framed. Your portfolio collection sounds impressive, wish I had some of those especially the one by Mike Ploog. For now I'll have to do with seeking out the remaining Sal Quartuccio Production Marvel portfolios by Fastner and Larson. You've scared me with the Frank Frazetta portfolio; happy to settle for the Eerie and Creepy magazines.
Great video for those of us who weren't there. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much youtube.com/@thundergodd6086, glad you enjoyed it!
Dave. Those are both awesome figures. I love the ROM figure the most.
Thank you so much Jim (youtube.com/@diggerjim7202)! I'm glad you liked the figures, I agree, the ROM is my favourite (hence why I have 3 of those).
So cool thank you for sharing, it was great to see you again at the Comic-Con

I've been going since the mid 90s. It' s surreal to see so many people on youtube going for the first time. Not surprised one bit everyone loves it.
Many thanks youtube.com/ @howlermouse. Woah, you're an OG at Heroes!
I would love to have gone through the boxes of b/w magazines, especially the Marvel ones like Monsters Unleashed and Vampire Tales. And even though I told myself that I wouldn't, I am starting to collect Warren titles too. Yet another area of collecting now opening up to me..... I saw that Space: 1999 comic, one of my favourite SF shows from the 70s. Great range of Bronze Age books David.
Cheers youtube.com/@charliedogg7683. I loved going through the old Warren and Marvel magazine titles, glad to hear you on that train too now. I was tempted by that Space:1999 magazine and have been watching them live streamed on youtube.com/@ShoutStudios.
