Welcome to Issue #2 of my brand new comic and collecting channel, Still Only 35c.
In this video, I unbox a new mail call from one of my recent UK auction purchases including an interesting piece of Marvel UK history and memorabilia, a Marvel UK Press Release pack created specially to promote the launch of Captain Britain Issue 1, Stan Lee's "Bring On The Bad Guys" and his visit to the UK in October 1976.

Love seeing history like this and learning something new like the connection between the Pet Shop Boys and Marvel. Very cool stuff. Don't call the police if there is a madman around the West End just call captain Britain!

Thanks. Who knew the Pet Shop Boys had ties to Marvel? Maybe they can write a superhero theme song next!

Very cool. Being American, I had no idea that press release existed. Really cool piece of history to have. Thanks for sharing.

To be honest neither did I which I why I wanted it. It's a fascinating snapshot of PR for a begone era.

I had no idea about Neil Tenant's connection to Marvel UK. The press kit is definitely the best thing in the box (not that those Kirby runs aren't great in themselves). Such items are true comics collecting ephemera, released to relatively few people and never intended to be kept by anyone (by 1977 there was definitely a collecting mentality among many of us readers so our comics had a much better chance of preservation). In the 1980s several editors of new titles that had been added to the publication schedule sent me b/w copies of the first issue and asked for a letter of comment so that #1 could have a letters page (this was standard practice in pre-Internet days). These came with a cover letter and the whole package arrived in official Marvel, DC and Dark Horse envelopes. I also have the paste-up of an Avengers letters page from when Bob Harras was writer, sent as thanks for submitting letters regularly; I got Harras to sign it when he was a guest at one of the legendary Ozcon conventions in the 90s here in Sydney. Looking forward to the next video David.

Thanks for the input and support as always. It was great to hear about your amazing publication schedule kit too. If you still have it to hand, I'd love to cover it on the channel. Fancy joining a livestream or doing a video with me on that?

Oh, if only I still had them! A couple were loaned to friends who I lost contact with and the others I have no idea of their fate. Thanks for the invitation though, appreciate it. Since those days I've been more careful in recognising the worth of such items, such as the free Comics Shop News that the LCS gives away - I have a few early ones bagged and boarded.@@StillOnly35c

Thankyou. Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys, Marvel UK Editor, who knew, right?
