Hearing Alan talk about Zipatone takes me back to the Bronze Age and the product's expert use by the artists who worked on Marvel's b/w magazines like Savage Sword Of Conan. Lots of interesting background here David, and the process for filling an issue of any Marvel UK issue (stories, then the rest of the page count filled by text pieces, letters, historical pieces and art) is reflected in our Aussie Newton Comics from the mid-70s, down to the free gifts - many issues came with a colour centrefold poster (and later with swap cards) and an iron-on transfer on the last page.

Thanks youtube.com/@charliedogg7683, Alan was the best! Who knew that ZipatoneTM would be the unsung hero of comic book industry during the Bronze Age for both Marvel UK and the Curtis/Marvel black and white magazines like Zombie Tales, Dracula Lives, etc. (which incidentally are my new collecting obsession). I also agree with you that, like Marvel UK, some of those amazing extras in the Australian Newton comics where similarly a (very welcome) necessity of filling pages. Again, the Newton Comic rabbit hole is beckoning to me.

Congratulations a great interview, so happy to see that comic book history like this is being recorded, the interview was very informative and turned on its head alot of my own ideas and takes regarding the art production for the Marvel UK books at this time so much more was produced in the US than I had always believed to have been. Truly a one of a kind VERY important recorded interview, up there with the Alan Class recorded interviews produced by 30th century comics a few years ago.

It means a lot to hear that you found the interview informative, eye-opening and more importantly, valuable for collectors in terms of Marvel UK landscape and history. Great episode ... not sure how you tracked down Alan, but kudos to you. Also, where do you find all these great artifacts--proofs, paste-ups, etc.--from the British Marvels?! I would love to own some of those myself.

Thank you for the kind words www.youtube.com/@TalesFromMySpinnerRack, I really enjoy your videos and content too! Regards Alan, he was selling some of his private collection of memorabilia from those days at a UK acution house including those paste-ups, original art, comics and printers proofs and I was lucky enough to be secure them. I posted a couple of videos showcasing them and the auctioneer team he worked with very kindly shared those with him and we got in touch to arrange the interview. Suffice to say, he was an absolute joy to talk too and I hope that came through on the interview.
