Chicago's rich and vast tradition of immigrant innovation and entrepreneurship through the course of her history have cooked up many delightful dishes which are unique to this city, from the famed deep dish pizza to the not-so-well-known jibarito. Chicago Style Eats, inspired by "Made in Chicago: Stories Behind 30 Great Hometown Bites" (2023, Monica Eng and David Hammond, 3 Fields/University of Illinois Press), invites you to explore with us these tasty, local indulgences!

You gotta bite a pepper
I’ve started tasting the foods with all the ingredients, now (see Maxwell Street Polish), for at least one bite, just so I can speak from experience. Just me, though. I’m a goat.
And that’s the Chicago way !!
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHH ok
Cooked peppers and egg in beef broth
Fell in love with this pizza puff at navy piers Chicago fest @1979or 80
Did they have different fillings then? Do you remember what kind it was? It seems most restaurants serve the sausage filling. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately Johnnie passed away a few months ago.
Oh, no! We searched for news about reasons why they might be closed, but never found anything. We didn’t think to check obituaries. So there’s no legacy to carry on the business? Thanks for the heads-up.
You create content on a great topic
Tony's on Pulaski is so much better.
With a name like "Tony's," it must be good! LOL! Do you have an address for them? We're working on ideas for season 2.

😊
That sandwich looked good... I've never had one that didn't have the pepper and eggs mixed together. I'm looking forward to next week's episode because I had my first pizza puff last week... I was not impressed
Loved this
I always assumed this was just an Italian standard, but the Lent story makes sense.
He's about less camera time of you two and more showing the grub, bub
Excellent suggestion!
Now that looks good and I'm not a big fan of dogs❤
Music and introductions are completely unnecessary. And they're not African Americans, they're Black, not that it matters. the only part of this video worth watching is at 9:00 and she said it's sweet and tangy. Overall this video is worthless and a waste of time.
Yes. You enjoyed me taking that shot for the first time!
Bitter grapefruit finish...that's it
Next time in Chicago, off to the CH distillery!
Out of towners? You wiley bastdard! I still have the bottle you graced Northern Colorado stashed in my freezer! Bitter Chicago grapefruit! I toast to you, my friend. Now to the ER...
Very nice. Thank you for your videos.
I can recommend the Athenian Room for all Greek treats. Try their lemon chicken with fries!
LUKE'S! Watching from Tucson!
NO FKKKN WAY!! Is he still there?
@@ChicagoStyleEats-rz2rc Lukes is still there but... not the same. Still kicks ass
Very interesting. I have seen many accounts on Twitter talking about Chicago mild sauce. I don't recalling having it when I lived there in the 1960's and 1970's.I also didn't know that the Harold's were independently owned.
Where’s the bone? That’s my question.
Assume the position!
Maybe try a medium sized Bath Towel over ur lap . I keep 1 in my car for eating. jus sayin
Try Harold's Fried Chicken Shack on the Southside, You Never Know Until You Go? (smile)
Stay tuned….
@@ChicagoStyleEats-rz2rc Touche' (smile)
The Steph-bombs are the best part!
Now you know why the woman in front of you kept drilling him for more mustard!
Agreed, I have had some gyros sandwiches that weren't great, but I have never had a bad one!
"Should we get a bucket?"
LOL
So do these hot wings pre-date Buffalo wings?
Further research (Google) indicates that Buffalo wings originated in the mid-1960s in - where else - Buffalo, New York. Gam Pong chicken wings were invented in Chicago in the 1980s. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is Fun with flags, but with sandwiches in 2024. I love it
It must be incredible if you ate a beef sandwich!
She is adorable! "They're fucking awesome!"
*3:36** this video is a garbage pile. Why even review something you aren't looking forward to eating? You're worse than people that would put ketchup on a Chicago style hotdog.*
The way you talk down on cannabis culture shows you are out dated. Why the hell am I finishing your terrible video.
How can you make describing a dish seem so unappetizing. Local 60625 resident here. I'll finish the video but if they are all like this I wouldn't subscribe to your content.
Tell us the name of the person who’s twisting your arm and forcing you to watch our videos. We will find them and tell them to stop. Thank you for watching.
Gym shoe.
In the book we reference in every episode, and in the sub shop we visited, it’s spelled “Jim Shoe.” Thank you for watching.
A giant pile of meat? Count me in
Great explanation! Wish I could try one. Maybe the next time I'm ever in Chicago.
🙂👍SUPERB!🙂Stay blessed!👍Keep it up!🙂🙂👍God bless you abundantly forever 🙂🙂Enjoy amazingly blessed weekend 🙂🙂Stay happy and well protected. 🙂🙂
I bought the sport peppers once. After the first use the bottle went straight into the trash. They were as hard as rocks. Marconi is a much better choice. As for the relish, I won't buy such made with HFCS. As for the Hot Pepper Mix, virtually all store bought brands are way too loaded with salt and vinegar. I make my own.
We're happy you've been able to find viable choices to keep your dogs and beefs on your menu! Thanks for watching!
Good show Tony and Stephanie! Love the story about discovering the "Chicago Style" Italian Roast Beef Sandwich in Tucson.
I've rarely been bothered so much by 2 mental lunatics.
If you go to Johnnie's Beef on North Avenue make sure you try their char grilled Italian sausage… The best in the world
D-M! Man, Tonster, I don't remember an invite to Luke's!
You weren't ready at that time for the awesomeness of the Chicago Style Italian Beef. I do believe your first experience came at the exact right time. Besides, you got to experience it in Chicagoland, so it couldn't be better!
I hear that they're adding a direct flight from the Rockford airport to Nashville for only $49
Max's on Adams street !!!, Old school buns w/black poppy seed. The ketchup is for french fries.
Yum!
