Chicago Style Eats - Episode 0111 - Depression Dog
The OTHER Chicago Dog! Though it appeared possibly 30 years before its flashier, more famous cousin, the humble Depression Dog quietly feeds the Chicago faithful with no airs, no pretense, and NO KETCHUP! It comes buried in a heap of french fries (at Gene & Jude's), but we're not sure if it's supposed to be eaten with the fries still on it, or if you're supposed to pick them off ...so we did both!

Are there any other old timers out there that remember the hot dog stand at around 83rd and Stoney Island in the 1950's? They sold hot dog made this exact way but for only 25 cents. There was a big sign on the roof that said 25 cents. My dad had a funeral home near 79th and Jeffery and I use to walk to the hot dog stand when I could scrounge up a quarter. One of my favorite memories. Thanks for this video.

I used to be a strictly-ketchup-on-a-hotdog person until I tried the Chicago Dog some years ago, and I haven’t looked back since!
