    +Aaron Oliphant Thank you! My time has been a bit tight, but I hope to get a few more out this year. We haven't had much time to film a lot of new episodes due to summer business, but I have plenty of footage that needs to be cut and uploaded. There will be more! Sadly, the new footage I managed to collect this summer got damaged in a hard drive crash before it could be backed up to secondary storage. Next planned release will feature some lake trout fishing!

    Fish Temagami I went to Lake Temagami last summer and the majority of the lake is quite deep, what set up do you recommend for deep water fishing? (30 ft and deeper)

  • @FishTemagami
    @FishTemagami9 жыл бұрын

    Well, usually the only thing you need to go really deep for are Lake Trout. My usual setup for that is a downrigger and 'Christmas Tree' or 'Hammer' with 3-5 leafs for attracting them and a trailing minnow following the lure about 12-18" behind. A couple years ago we had good luck using just a dipsy diver to bring a smaller hammer down to the right depth, since the trout remained fairly high (40-60') even in late July. Typically in mid-summer they are between 60--80 feet. If those rigs are too expensive, jigs work well too - but having a depth finder that is sensitive enough to find the baitfish is handy at the very least so you know where to target them. We tried jigs one episode (still needs to be cut) and found we targeted too deep guessing they'd be low due to the hot, sunny, calm day, but they were actually up in the 60' range or higher, which was easier to find once we had a good graph to find them.

  • @FishTemagami
    @FishTemagami9 жыл бұрын

    Actually, my nephew had a lot of fun. Not sure where you got the impression he didn't... Part of it was just getting him to a spot where he could keep catching fish - a kid his age doesn't care if they are huge or not, they just want to catch them. He caught fish pretty much the entire time he was fishing once I showed him where to put his bait. We weren't out for a long time, just a fun time, and in his words, he had fun. Mission accomplished. Once he learns fishing is fun, then he'll be more inclined to listen when being taught. His experiences with other people up to then were not fun, because he was being taken to places to try and catch big fish to eat and fishing was slow. One thing I'd like to say to you - be kind to others on the internet - rudeness will get you nowhere. Saying I don't know anything about fishing and insulting me just because you have a different opinion... Not cool. They are several ways to catch a fish.

    Sometimes people make comments that are emotionally drivin and are completly unaware of the truth. That nature has a way of finding balance. Its been a year or more and i guarentee that there are more pike in that system now recruited into the bigger size ranges to take its place.

    I've seen two fish now with plastics in their gut that would have eventually died because they would never have broken down and were clogging the intestinal tract. I don't like using plastics or fake bait for that very reason. A worm I know they can eat safely and get nutrients from.

  • @FishTemagami
    @FishTemagami9 жыл бұрын

    New set of plugs, maybe a carburetor cleaning? I wouldn't run regular gasoline through any small engine either with the ethanol - really mucks up your carb.

  • @96Duelfuel
    @96Duelfuel9 жыл бұрын

    Fish Temagami Yep, did all that save for the plugs. Never run regular fuel in anything (boat motor, lawn mower, snowmobile, snowblower) except for the car. They only made these motors for a few years. Wondered if this is just an issue they have...

  • @FishTemagami
    @FishTemagami9 жыл бұрын

    I had a 4hp Sea Horse many years ago, but it's long gone now. This particular motor was Roger's that he had at the back lake. Most of my experience now is with Yamaha 8hp (2 and 4 stroke) and 9.9 high thrust four stroke engines. I just remember the old Johnsons used to eat the plugs pretty bad and the mixed fuel tended to foul them pretty fast if you were just trolling a lot. A fouled plug made for hard starting.

    I have the habit of always setting the hook all the time even with every bite I get...I need to work on being patience in bites, Any tips?

  • @FishTemagami
    @FishTemagami10 жыл бұрын

    When trolling, you should try and set the hook, when using worms that have a long dangle from the hook that the fish might need to work it's way up you will need to give them a bit of time. Training yourself not to pull immediately is hard, but something you will have to mentally do - force yourself not to react at every tap by a fish. Once you get through the first 20, it'll come more naturally to you to not react, but to wait for the opportune moment.
