Sometimes people make comments that are emotionally drivin and are completly unaware of the truth. That nature has a way of finding balance. Its been a year or more and i guarentee that there are more pike in that system now recruited into the bigger size ranges to take its place.

Why would you keep a pike that size? They are the prime breeders.

@showmethat2 We had a lot of fun shooting the first season, and still have a couple opportunities to explore this winter that we hope will pan out for the winter season of the sport.

@temagamiisland Well, my goal with the show is to get people fishing with a limited amount of gear, and do so successfully. Hopefully it'll help those that do come fishing have some success, because in my experience, a lot of people that pick up a rod on their way to Temagami simply don't know anything about what species they are targeting, or if they choose one, how to target it. :) If i can make it look fun in the process, it's even better. Thank you for your encouraging comment!

@opie111 Well, this fall I fished a pike lake (episode coming out later this spring) and found the old standby "Red Devil" spoon to be the one that worked. I tried a variety, but the RD with a pulling action while trolling caught the fish. At that time of year, a Storm Hot'n'Tot would work for either the bass or walleye, and probably pike too - I nailed a couple on one two years ago. And I always go to worms for jigging/drifting shoals for bass/walleye.

Good eye! Yes, it did end up being a smallmouth. The light was pretty low at that point, and it was hard to get a good ID while trying to man a camera and net at the same time. :) Given the time of night and how dark it was, I could see the green in the camera LCD and it really looked like a walleye at first, but then it jumped and shook the hook and was clearly a smallmouth. I think I commented on it later, but the footage got cut to try and keep the episode length down.

    A) We were near a prime walleye spawning area, and I frankly don't care to see large pike hanging around feeding on the smaller walleye coming in or leaving the spawn site. Any walleye leaving the spawn area would have had to go right by this guy. B) The pike wasn't going to make it and I'd rather eat a fish than waste it and give it to the gulls. If you know what you're doing, you can filet larger fish for eating, and it's better than having a fish die and not using it.

@opie111 I haven't done any fly-in fishing trips, only a few portage lakes off Temagami, and Cliff Lake off Rib Lake. What type of fish are in Chris Willis? Is there a species you are targeting specifically?

The fish at 1:40 is a smallmouth not a walleye

Meh - 13 lb pike isn't that big.... I caught one down in Obabika Bay that was 25+ lbs. 49" tip to tail.
