Often I find the trick to beaver huts is to fish further out from them to get the bigger fish coming in to feed. I moved in close for this episode because I wanted Massey to have lots of fun. Working the huts from bigger fish takes a lot of patience, but you can get some pretty good results, depending on the hut and area.

Nope, it is on Lake Temagami, in northern Ontario. Public access with lots of great places to stay in the area. If you ever visit and stay with one of our sponsors, please let them know you found out about them through the show!

Unfortunately Massey was used to a spincast reel and I didn't have one to take along for him to use. He never caught on to reeling in with the spincast, but then, he didn't take long to get the fish in either. Main thing is he had fun. Next time I'll make sure we have a spincast along so he can reel in too.

Yep, I was glad the party crowd was absent, I would have had to go further! Not sure the snacks would have lasted a full episode! hehe... You bringing your plane up this year? I missed it last year. If you still have the GoPro mount on it, I have a 1080 HD version I'd love to get some footage with if you're doing a fly-around.

I've seen two fish now with plastics in their gut that would have eventually died because they would never have broken down and were clogging the intestinal tract. I don't like using plastics or fake bait for that very reason. A worm I know they can eat safely and get nutrients from.

Actually, my nephew had a lot of fun. Not sure where you got the impression he didn't... Part of it was just getting him to a spot where he could keep catching fish - a kid his age doesn't care if they are huge or not, they just want to catch them. He caught fish pretty much the entire time he was fishing once I showed him where to put his bait. We weren't out for a long time, just a fun time, and in his words, he had fun. Mission accomplished. Once he learns fishing is fun, then he'll be more inclined to listen when being taught. His experiences with other people up to then were not fun, because he was being taken to places to try and catch big fish to eat and fishing was slow. One thing I'd like to say to you - be kind to others on the internet - rudeness will get you nowhere. Saying I don't know anything about fishing and insulting me just because you have a different opinion... Not cool. They are several ways to catch a fish.
